Must win. Because the Coyotes are below the Oilers, they don't even need to win in regulation. It would be better to get a regulation win but they just need a win.

This one is a must win. There's no excuse to lose to the Coyotes tonight.

It would be a general disappointment to lose tonight. Unless we're hoping for the best odds at the #1 pick, in which case it would be a boon to us!

Need at least a 60:40 ratio of people skating for teammates vs skating just for themselves if we want to win tonight.

if the oilers are just skating for the oilers they can be good. But if they are skating for the coyotes they can be great...that seems right

Skating just for yourself = compliment
Skating for teammates = great compliment
Skating for everyone including the other team = you're the best there ever was or ever will be?

The Oilers have the tremendous opportunity of tying their hottest of streaks this season with two wins in a row! Furthermore since the last game was a regulation win, this streak could truly sizzle the sear on that steak with a regulation win tonight. A two regulation win hot streak? Dare to dream Oilers fans, dare to dream!

Is it so hard to ask for two wins in a row? Just two wins.. please..

That seems like an unrealistic expectation. I'd prefer the boy play for each other and take it one game at a time, one period at a time, one shift at a time.

I don't think the two are incompatible.
Focus on the short term. Make every shift count, make every period count, make every game count. But we can't be winning one, losing one, winning one, losing two anymore. Each loss needs to be a one-off, and each win needs to be followed by at least one or two more.
There's no other way to make up ground at this point. If they want even a sniff of the playoffs, that's what they'll need.

Is anyone else getting tired of hearing Edmonton media saying "Do the Oilers have enough depth on the wings to play McDavid, Leon, Nuge at center". Right now Lowetide is saying that AGAIN. I say this because at this point, why the hell not try it. To date, things haven't gone well not having those 3 at center so why not try it. The whole BS word about "3 scoring lines" drives me nuts. How about 3 lines that actually play well in a game for a change. That would be a MASSIVE improvement. Plus how does anyone know if the lines will all of a sudden just click unless you try them. Sometimes for whatever reason, guys just click with one another and they score more than is expected. So try it and see what happens. What they have been doing hasn't worked. If it did, the Oilers wouldn't be where they are.

Dylan Strome got called up to the Coyotes, he's been ripping up the AHL (26 points in 15 games).
So we could see battle of the Strome's and also "Best friends collide!" as the headlines for tonight.

If the past has any bearing on anything, the Oilers will gift the Cyotes with a much needed win and confidence boost and Strome will score a hat trick while McDavid is kept off the score sheet.

Looks like it will be the same line formations as in Boston :
Lucic - McDavid - Cammalleri
Maroon - Nugent-Hopkins - Slepyshev
Caggiula - Draisaitl - Strome
Pakarinen - Letestu - Kassian
Nurse - Larsson
Klefbom - Benning
Auvitu - Russell
Talbot
Brossoit
It irks me that it took 20 games into the season to start playing around with the lines a little bit. I'm not surprised there has been success on doing that, not sure what the hell McLellan thinks, maybe keeping the same lines that eventually things will turn around.

I don't get what Pakarinen brings. He's a 13th forward at best in my eyes. If you want to give Puljujarvi some time to practice and watch the game as a teaching tool, while I don't agree with it at all, OK. But at least put someone in the line up that MIGHT do something. I don't think Khaira is a big offensive guy but he has more chance of scoring the odd goal than Pakarinen.

I'm dumbfounded.
Perhaps Jesse was just skating for Jesse in the last few shifts against Buffalo?
I realize the coach wants to win, but is the difference between Puljujarvi and Pakarinen that huge?
Develop this kid on the ice if he's playing well, not the press box.

I have a theory rolling around in the back of my mind that the Oilers didn't replace Sekera with anyone because the Oilers weren't playing many division games before Christmas. I wonder if management thought they could slide on the first 35 games because it was so east heavy.

He must not know his team and their preparation well if that's the case. His team clearly needs some emotion forced out of them by the other side to get into games. These games vs the East, you're lucky if half the team looks engaged.

Hilariously the team with the best record against their division and conference is..... Vegas. 7-1 against the Pacific, 12-1 against the west. They're going to take our playoff spot.

Well, and they built a heavy team, the kind that we were told that the lighter, faster, more talented Oilers teams just couldn't compete against, so they were likely to run roughshod over the East!

Probably a good thing considering how the seasons gone thus far. Gives us a chance to get back in it if we play well within the division.
