So pretty much a guarantee the Oilers will win then?

Is Chicago really that good? I don't think so. I see this as a very winnable game.

Anton Forsberg. 24 years old. 11 games NHL experience. Career .883 sav%. Would be really nice to win a goalie battle again.

I've heard the Anton Forsberg is projected to be the next Garrett Sparks.

Ah memories. I haven't thought of that name in years. I think. When was that debacle? 2015. Good times.

I wish I trusted analytics a bit more :
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/three-early-season-nhl-tr ends-unlikely-continue/
Quote: | Oilers fans are understandably frustrated right now, with Edmonton struggling to score and win, and now Leon Draisaitl’s status is concerning, with vision problems and concussion symptoms. However, it looks like Draisaitl won’t be out for too long, and the Oilers’ play without him has been incredibly strong.
Yes, the goals haven’t been in their favour, everything seems to be going wrong at once, but the Oilers are first in the NHL in Corsica’s expected goals model and Sportlogiq’s scoring chance data likes them just as much.
Compared to recent years, the Oilers have done an incredible job defensively, allowing the fewest high-danger chances against in the league so far. The goaltending has been porous so that probably sounds like a lie, but the Oilers have improved big time.
This is a team that has been stung badly by poor luck, but every indication we have says they’re bound to be not just good, but excellent. This is without a top defenceman in Andrej Sekera, and with Draisaitl missing a couple games as well. There’s too much good stuff going on in Edmonton to get bogged down in their record after just five games.

So sick of people using luck as an excuse. Good teams make their own luck by pushing the play and keeping the puck in the other end where luck can't hurt you. This is a team with no wingers , less defense and the Goalies can't out play the suck. I said in August this team wouldn't make the playoffs and I see little to encourage that I'm wrong.

The Oilers even when they were crap usually played the Hawks tough and won their fair share of games. They need Talbot to be Talbot so hopefully he's figured out what is wrong and fixed it. Tonight would be a good night for the captain to puck up his game.

The problem that I have with the analytics guys that are talking about the Oilers shooting and save percentages inevitably improving (and they will), is that they use things like xGF% and high danger chances as indications that the Oilers will turn it around.
But they don't give any context on those numbers. I don't have access to Sportlogiq's data and can't get Corsica to load on my laptop. But if we use naturalstattrick.com and look at CF% and HDSC% the Oilers are currently first in both categories. The problem is their numbers are not sustainable at those levels.
EDM 17/18 CF% = 59.92%
LA was first in CF% in 16/17% at 54.92% (Oilers were 49.99%)
EDM 17/18 HDSC% = 62.64%
Min led the league in 16/17 with 56.17% (Oilers were 50.43%).
The Oilers numbers this year are basically small sample artifacts. So their shooting and save percentages will get better, but they're also going to have their scoring chance numbers come down as well that will mitigate that at least somewhat.
Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games
