Wah wah. Brutal. Cole sucks.

The biggest loss of the year.

After tonight me thinks the Oilers are going to be on the outside looking in once again, when the real season starts.

Kevin Lowe, he's got to have one of the easiest jobs in the world, he does nothing and he gets payed quite well to do nothing.

Also, it's sickening to watch certain players pay for their mistakes and in some cases the coach's mistakes, while others always have immunity.

Gilbert is completely unable to shoot the puck on the PP. All he can do is pass it down low to Hemmer of to the side to Souray...a total waste of that side of the point. Pisses me off so much.

The boys have made strides the past few games but hopefully this game will be a measuring stick to show the Oilers they aren't good enough yet to be a playoff team. So frustrating to be so close and could just as easily take 7th or 8th spot or just miss.
So, so frustrating!! and I hate Dallas with a passion!! angryfire
Yippee, bring on the Flames!! faint

I've said for a while Gilbert is useless on the oilers powerplay. They overplay Souray, and he doesn't want to shoot the puck all he does is cycle it back to Hemsky and Hemsky tries to do something with it because Gilbert can't shoot the puck.

We need a D-men and quick. Strudwick can't be playing every game, he just doesn't have enough talent.

If you add up all Reddox's goals in terms of distance you might make it to the faceoff circle.

The captain takes 23 minutes in penalties, including 3 bad minors is -1. Will he get called out or bag skated I wonder? rofl lmao

If I was the coach, after Ott smashed Gilbert I would have simply told Stortini to go out and pound Modano, or Erickson or whatever skilled guy they have. It's the only language the disturbers and their ilk know. Jumping on a guy and giving him a face rub after h has been haranging our best player all game and then hitting one of our soft dmen late just doesn't cut it. but our moron of coach hasn't figured that out after 25 years in the league.

The Oilers GAG again.

2 Facts about the Oilers and this hockey game:

1) Stupid penalties: Moreau (the King of Dumb Penalties) with a double minor that both killed the Oilers' momentum AND gave the Stars the 3-2 lead. Hemsky and Horcoff each contributed with terrible penalties. Hard to get anything going when your shorthanded.

2) After years together in the league, the Oilers coaching staff has no answer for the trap.....never have, never will. Same old familiar story, the Oilers were constantly circling the wagons in their own half of the rink.

Dallas is extremely short in terms of high-end manpower, and this game was available for the Oilers going in. The Oilers are short on the backend...but even if Lubo or Grebs were in there, it wouldn't have made a bit of a difference. Why? Because Dallas had a plan and executed it to perfection, and by all appearances the Oilers didn't have the counter-strategy and didn't execute.

<Sigh> The Oilers remain an enigma. What else is new? This was THE game, what could have been the pivotal game in the season, and the team serves up this undisciplined pile of garbage.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to start JD next game, but of course Roloson will be in. Roloson will play every game from this point in of course, until he's hurt or falls over dead.

I don't expect a bounce-back Saturday night. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm calling the Flames in a lop-sided score.

We just aren't a good enough team. We may stumble into the play-offs but I doubt it. I fear Mr. Lowe will trade picks and some player of decent quality for a rental just to save face and make the play-offs. We need a rebuild. I don't want to finish 8th anymore. We need to be able to compete once we get there. Does anyone think we will if we make it. Que the 2006 run and anything is possible. Our roster was way stronger then and I think the rest of the West is way stronger now.

You know what? As much as I hate Ott - I would sell my sister to have him on my team!! He's ALL heart and the guy we had last year (Raffi) is long gone along with our two best faceoff guys!! yeesh
I swear KLOWE made a deal with the devil in 2006 for us to get to within 2 goals of winning the cup!! What was the downside to that deal?! 5 years of absolute aggravation and frustration!!? yikes
This team is trying to play hard and for the most part it's been working but there's a difference between hard edged hockey and taking dumb penalties!!! and saving the best for last - our captain is the worst culprit of them all!! Yet another game that tells me he has no business being captain!!

Can't overstate the importance of this game with the Stars a point ahead of us and several teams right behind us ready to leapfrog us into a playoff spot.

The fact that we usually seem to pick the most important games to choke on, plus the fact that it's Dallas makes me afraid that we're going to see one of those boring, listless performances that we've seen so often this year.

Snipped from my pre-game thread post.

Pretty pathetic effort all around. Reddox has looked good lately though.

Was I imagining things or was Stortini getting double-shifted in the third there?
Seems like he was on the ice more than Hemsky.

Going to be lucky to even salvage one point out of these three important games, although Calgary does seem to have been charitable lately giving up points to their opponents.

Come on people let's not overreact here.

I agree it was an ugly game to watch, Moreau with almost half of the team's penalty minutes.

But they never have success in Dallas. Virtually ever.

They continually choke in big game opportunities, and these are the traits of an average team.

Lesson of the day? Don't ever expect spectacular things from these guys, they rarely deliver when it counts. Why? It's a mix between youth and inexperience, shoddy leadership and mediocre coaching ability.

Edmonton is the definition of mediocrity, and this is no joke.

So I'm not even upset by this loss, it was as certain as death.

Its over ten minutes into the final peroid when they are down and they have just a single shot.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly on everything. Dallas was ripe to be taken out due to their injuries but they played a smart game and within themselves. They kept a clamp down on the Oil, waited for them to take stupid penalties, then capitalized.

That the Oil could not get themselves up for this game and shown more fire is disturbing. Inconsistency is killing this team and it starts at the coach. Moreau will not be called out, benched, or bag skated even though he fully and completely deserves it. He's one of the dumbest team captains of any team in any sport and I'm certain he inspires neither confidence nor focus from the rest of the room and especially the young guys. MacT looking baffled all the time is also quite inspiring as well.

a .500 team goes .500 on this four game road trip.

They're in this game take a couple of questionable penalties with some questionable goaltending and add in some questionable PK'ing with a dose of questionable PP time.

Their record in DAL ain't very good but I'm surprised just how many "no names" are in their line-up. This is winnable. Or at least a point, right?

Sets up a big game Saturday night against CAL. Lose this one and they lose the slight, ever so slight advantage the team has on the two teams directly underneath.

Reddox is decent. But so what if JFJ touced that puck o'er his shoulder? There was no whistle on the play and Reddox pushed it in.

you're gettin' all emotional again. ; )

That call against Moreau which led to Gilbert showing us again his worth on the PK was one they call too much. Stick in the mid-section and the DAL player goes down easy.

Moreau tendin' to the business of Ott and putting the team down a player after "fighting" Grossman or whatever might be another story... the refs pretty much evened that up, later. It's the Oilers who had the defacto five-on-three and were unable to capitalize.

You're exaggerrating for effect, I hope about Cole. Sure, he bungled that puck along the boards for one of DAL's goal but he played it even for the rest.

I am ever the glass half full guy so I will look for positives in this BORING game. #1 Physical-the whole team (except for Cole) seemed willing to play physically which is contrary to what we have seen for most of the season.
#2 Smid-continues to develop, given the added responsibility with the injuries on the back end into a physical, effective, ugly to play against dman.
#3 I am impressed with the physicality that Peckham brings to the rink every night.
However, even an optimist can see that Cole needs and wants out NOW. He is barely going through the motions out there.

No Cups

....yet another season of .500ish hockey folks.

Another stand pat front office. Zero moves.

MacT's 9th year behind the bench.

A 3C dressed up in 1C clothes.

Another wasted year of 83 playing with absolute plumbers. This team has one offensive talent, and there's simply no urgency to surround him with another offensive piece or two. No urgency whatsoever.

Another year of underachieving hockey.

Another year in 9th-10th place.

Another year of excuses. Another year of 'we learned some lessons and played hard.'

Only in Edmonton, only in Edmonton.

Next year, there won't be a prognosticator mag in the land that will have the Oilers in the playoffs, let alone winning the division.

It's beyond poor. Every year, the same.

"The Oilers are playing like they'd rather die than lose."

Mike Emerick, on-air, after the Game 3 win over Anaheim in the 2006 Western Conference Final.

lighten the hell up!

Or, were you present and contributed to the discourse here at the Big Time about the Oilers questionable drafting? Poor drafting. Poor evaluation? The farm team? Total lack of there for a couple of years. The root of all this is what lies, what MacT like to call the cavalry. There is no cavalry. Too small, too stupid, too slow.
