So hall ended up coming in handy. High danger chances 14 to 1 in the game today with him on the ice. Scores the tying goal late in the 3rd, Bruins win it in OT.

If he can score 6 more goals, he passes Seguin in Bruins playoff goal scoring and officially decides the Taylor vs. Tyler debate!

What a game by Binnington!!!

oh, but his team still was horribly outmatched and Blues lost.

Excusez mon français, but what in the H-E-double hockey sticks is Ducharme thinking here???!!??

Per Eric Engels;
Ducharme confirmed that Kotkaniemi and Caufield will be watching Game 1. But he also expects he'll be using them at some point, and that they'll be more prepared to play when they do finally get in.

Apparently Romanov is included in this too.

Not dressing arguably three of your better, younger, players. Unreal. This isn’t Koekkoek in for Jones type of crap. This is sitting Yamo, McLeod and Bear type of crap.

lol, play all 56 games in the season (3rd NHL season of his career), 4 goals and +4 last playoffs. No Habs player scored more goals in their playoffs last year.

Sorry kid, you're not ready for NHL playoffs!

Montreal announcing they will have some fans in the building if there is a game 6 in their series.

Dang, difficult problem juggling my hate for teams/fans. If the leafs are gonna win anyways, definitely hope they do it in 5 :) But, maybe still would prefer Montreal wins the series if possible.

So many felonies being committed in the Tampa-Miami series that the refs are just ignoring. That scares me as a fan of a team who's biggest weapon is the PP.

You don't think Campbell and Parros want to see free-wheeling hockey, do you? I expect the non-calls on McDavid to be outrageous.

I watched the Florida series and Pittsburgh/MYI - both have me very very concerned about what Draisaitl and especially McDavid will have to fight through.

I just hope that Tippett isn't afraid to get a $5000 fine if it's over the top. I've had about enough of the Oilers passively accepting ridiculous refereeing and never saying boo, so if 97 is wearing Pionk like a jacket all game, I expect the head coach to step to the podium and call it out.

Agreed - this taking the high road thing is for the birds. Exhibit A - Randy Carlyle in 2017 whining before the series even started, then the "But what do I say to Corey..."

The Carlyle one was pretty smart. Before the series starts he's calling the refs out saying he hopes they don't plan to give McDavid preferential treatment and the games will be fair. Somehow that turns into refs being cool with Kesler riding on McDavid's back and poking his feet out from under him from behind for 7 games. Damn genius.

Of course McLellan was fully into "gotta earn your stripes" mode. Waiting until he was fired for the refs to reward our team for good behaviour.

I was thinking this too. Not so much with the Penguins-Islanders series as I think both teams look kind of slow and I think Edmonton would be ok. The Lightning-Panthers and Capitals-Boston series are both way above the level of how the Oilers are capable of playing this year. The top line should be ok, but the rest of the lineup is severely lacking in talent and compete level. Hopefully if (when) we make it that far, the other teams are beat up a bit and playing below what they are capable of.

That first goal on Varlamov tonight was icon_eek. Guy was just not paying attention at all.

Ended up being a low scoring game and Islanders lose 2-1. Really hope we don't donate a free goal early in our series.

I haven't checked but I'm sure letting in a goal early in the game, like on the first shot, isn't an issue we have.

Justin Schultz doing Schlutz things on that winning Boston goal. Innocent dump in, he's got position, going to easily be there first to play it. He probably will get hit to play it but shouldn't be anything massive. Literally pulls up and lets the Bruin forward take it to avoid getting touched. Pathetic.

Yeah that looked pretty bad. Even worse was what the hell their goalie was doing. Crappy way to end a long OT.

Samsonov probably could have gotten back to the net a little quicker but seeing Schultz coast in, then side step to get out of the way of the Bruin to avoid maybe taking a hit is pretty sad. All he had to do was take an extra stride and shoot the puck around and the play is dead but there was a chance he probably gets hit. I don't blame Ovie for being pissed. I'd be shredding Schultz if I was him.

I don't think he was avoiding the hit, I think he was trying to turn the puck. Don't think he realized how close the Bruins player was to him...that might also be on Samsonov. Leaving the puck there, he should be communicating to the defenceman about that.

Ovechkin seemed pretty mad - apparently was yelling something about "Don't sleep, b***h" in Russian (according to Slava Malamud on twitter). That probably suggests he was angry at Samsonov...I doubt Schultz speaks a lot of Russian.

Watched it again, yeah, that was super weird. The goalie saw that Schultz was in a bit of a straight on skate towards the boards. That was actually a very awkward spot to leave the puck. He's forcing Schultz to keep skating straight directly into the boards to get that puck. For sure the goalie should have seen Schultz was going to get smashed if he tried to get that puck, which would could have lead to pretty much anything down below the goal line. He should have played that puck in some way, not just allow a battle to happen behind his net.

For Schultz, yeah it seems like he got stunned looking back and seeing how close Smith was. I guess his brain was already committed to trying to cut to the right so he could take a smooth turn behind the net and the wires got crossed? :) Ended up making a very awkward move and the rest is history.

Pathetic.

I am not sure how good of a puck handler Samsonov is. I kind of thought he should have just played it more rather than stop it. Schultz would have definitely had to keep skating but it sure looked liked he had more than a step or 2 on Smith especially given skating is his thing. Just seemed like he saw Smith coming and wanted no part of getting potentially hit.

I feel a little bit better for koskinen every time I see another team's goalie muff out on a goal, even the top goalie's let in in brutal goals.

Gregor seems to have cracked the code of the NHL:

Jason Gregor @JasonGregor

Through 14 NHL playoff games:
Teams scoring first are 10-4.
Teams with more shots are 8-6.
Teams with more hits are 10-4.
Total PP/game per series:
CAR/NSH: 8.5 (2GP)
WSH/BOS: 7.66 (3GP)
FLA/TB: 6.5 (2GP)
COL/STL: 4.5 (2GP)
PIT/NYI & VGK/MIN: 4.0 (2GP)
EDM/WPG: 1.0 (1 GP) #NHL

Might just be enjoying the attention, but he has been talking a lot lately about how hits = wins lately. One of the more random and "personality/mood of the statistician of each arena" based stats the NHL has, but apparently it correlates very well with winning this year!

Just saw what happened to Tavares. Wont post it here as it actually made me a bit queasy. One of the worst reactions to being knocked out I have seen since the Scott Stevens days.

Man, I hope he is ok.

Just brutal. And why the hell did they try to force him upwards at the start there? Almost making him get a knee injury in addition. Hope he's OK, but looks like he'll be out a while.

Yeah, looked like pretty brutal handling from the trainers. If it’s spine or neck injury, I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to have him move around like that.

Was that the Perry thing? Haven’t seen it but saw a tweet about Perry from one of my (beyond angry) Leafs fan friends.

100% accident. Tavares got hit in front of Perry and spun around to put his face right in front of Perry's knee. Perry tried to jump out of the way but was too late.

Eek. Found it, it’s getting deleted from a lot of places.

Of course Bc it’s Perry there’s going to be assumptions. 1000% unintentional. Man. Hope he’s okay.

That’s definitely something TO can rally behind though.

Hard to say why Perry had to fight for that. All the time in the world in slow mo, but bang bang in real time. Perry has never earned the benefit of the doubt though.

Pretty well anyone other than Perry, and it is likely viewed very different from Leaf fans and players.

Thinking it's a situation where Foligno is just looking for anything to spark his team and maybe Perry feels a bit bad and is just cool to humor him to put it all behind everyone.

If Perry meant to do that, he probably just keeps his knee bent and and skate down firm, and glides right through Tavares' face and doesn't look back. Don't think he had any time to do that even if he wanted to. Think he just jumped as a reflex to try to protect himself from a knee injury.

Just going to complain that I'm getting the Sportsnet/CBC feed (Cuthbert) here tonight - why can't they do that for our series? I'd take Singh over most of these C-list NBC talent

So after an entire day of snickering and questioning the Oilers from the national (Leafs) media, the same thing happens to the Leafs. Do you think they get the same reaction?

Corey Perry's leg probably gives a lot of them a mental out to not blame their team
