So after an entire day of snickering and questioning the Oilers from the national (Leafs) media, the same thing happens to the Leafs. Do you think they get the same reaction?

Corey Perry's leg probably gives a lot of them a mental out to not blame their team

The one time he actually didn't try to knee someone...

How much more losing can Matthews handle before he demands a trade?
(I seriously heard this about McDavid from a reputable media member today.)

They lose round this series and he’ll force his way home to Arizona and light it up with Cheeseburger Phil.

Tavares out of the hospital with a concussion. I'd be shocked if they see him at all in the playoffs. He took a knee right to the head.

No doubt out for a while, but guess you can never doubt the team/player will to rush back even these days with concussions. It is playoffs after all.

Lucky he had no other damage. That was a serious whip back of his head.

There's the out for Toronto when they lose to Mtl.

Dubas looked like he was having a gastric reaction, not to make light of it.

I still can't believe how he was flat out unconscious due to a headshot and the trainers sat him up like that. I'd expect to see something like that in a Russian minor league, not the hallowed home of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL. I mean, a basic first aid course prescribes immobilizing the head and having the player in a recovery position until you can get him on a stretcher while immobilized. Is the training staff still employed by the Leafs today?

Yeah, that attempt to get him up just made it all so much uglier for everyone. They saw he was just flat out, arms extended after getting knocked out. How can you not assume a bad concussion.

The guy is probably completely confused and out of it, and what, they ask him if he's OK and can get up? He just instinctively in his confusion says yes, so, green light to try to lift him up? Definitely seems like there was a serious lapse of reason by those trainers.

I only saw one clip, that started with him half up and and awkwardly supported by the trainer. It then went to the replay of the incident then back live to him on the ice. I assumed Tavares had tried to get up and started to go back down when the trainer got there and the trainer was trying to catch him and ease him back to the ice.

Did anyone see the time between the hit and when the trainer got there?

If he was on the ice and the trainer tried to get him up he should be fired by now. That is amateur hour.

It looks super bad to me. He is down until the trainer is there and for some reason the first trainer is holding his neck as he lets Tavares try to get up. The guy holding his neck actually seems to end up partially laying on Tavares as Tavares falls backwards as I assume a head rush is just knocking him out. Then that trainer starts to wave for more help.

Maybe the guy is trying to insist to Tavares to stay down and JT is just refusing to listen? Doesn't seem like it though.

JT was doing the work. He was using his arms and legs trying to get up. Hard to blame a trainer for an unconscious person acting irrationally.

Yeah, guess the trainer is trying hard to stabilize JT's neck/head. If he's thinking he needs to do that, probably doesn't make sense he would be encouraging JT to get up.

He should probably have done more to try to keep Tavares from trying to rise in the first place...but ah well. Weird situation. Maybe he didn't realize how serious it was until that moment?

He didn't have a lot of time to try and reason with obviously concussed JT. There was 8 seconds of him trying to get level before tipping over and I have to think the trainer spent 5 of those seconds going, "oh crap what are you doing oh crap oh crap oh crap".

Thanks, I hadn't seen that video. The one I saw on twitter was shorter and I hadn't watched another one until that.
Really to say what was going on but I take back the call for the trainer to be fired. Supporting a neck, Tavares is leaning, maybe even trying to get up out of habit. As hockey players we are taught to get off the ice on your own unless you absolutely cant. Tavares reverts to muscle memory after his brain is scrambled.

Man that is scary. They just played it during the pregame, gave a warning first and I didnt watch. I will be happy if I never see that clip again.

There’s a burger named after him at Foley’s in NY.

It’s safe to say he’s a connoisseur of multiple grilled meats

Add: You’re right tho. I totally just googled Phil kessel burger and that came up haha. Hot dogs are his thing

ha! Cheeseburgers made me remember TPB . https://www.luzdelaluna.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Trailer-Park-Boys-Quotes_Luzdelaluna-Quotes_21-768x768.jpg

Now Philadelphia Collins (rest his soul) and Bo Bandy know a thing or two about burgers.

I should totally watch that series again.

FLA with their 4th PP IN THE PERIOD. Must be nice to have refs that actually enforce the rules.

4 point night for "raised from the dead 1 week ago" Kucherov. The ultimate troll job continues.

I have to admit it's a brilliant play. You get a top tier player, rested and healthy, for the playoffs while being wildly over cap and didn't piss off your home fans because its a covid season? I think Tampa might just be smart than everyone else.

Guess part of the equation is having a team you can be confident you can still breeze into playoffs without your best player. Not a luxury many teams have.

if that's how the NHL has interpreted the rules for LTIR cap relief, then the Oil holds out Klefbom all season until game one of the playoffs, tell Neal he has health complications from covid that will make him unable him to play.. all season, and Miko tears a groin playing pickle ball in the off season, out for season.

PRESTO!... $14.5 M in cap space!

Tampa coach now whining because FLA players kept playing in the 3rd (despite being down 4 or 5) and Kucherov and Sergachev got banged up.

Ya for a team that should just keep their heads down after all the bs they did with Kutcherov, he sure whines in the media a lot, did it last game too.

I ha da thought he’d end up in Seattle but then I heard he has said he only wants to play for the Caps. Salary is a big question though. He could still potentially get 40 goals next year. Probably declines from there.

I’m sure if he wants to continue to play in the NHL that he’d take a lesser dollar amount than many expect to make things work. He has immense drive to win. I’d think he understands the economics of a flat cap, unlike a certain individual currently under contract in Edmonton 😉 pick who you think I’m referring to and it probably fits with any one of the expirees.

Leafs get a 2nd line goal and 2 more from the 3rd line. Could be up 3-1 in the series soon with Matthews only having points in 1 of the 4 games. Must be nice.

Hold up, are you suggesting it’s everyone’s job to score goals? The 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines are there to grind and cycle the puck down low.

Think all 9 goals scored last night were by 2nd,3rd and 4th liners. All top lines blanked in both games. Deeper team won both.

Does not compute. Everyone knows that the bottom six are just there to kill penalties, throw hits and block shots. What the heck are they doing trying to score!?

Jarry really channeled the Schwartz tonight.

8 goals already in this game, 0 points for Crosby (-3) or Barzal (-2). The Yzerman channeling is quite weak in this one for top players.
