Rishaug coming out saying he doesn’t think Oilers will pay the price for Hall, following it up by saying the greater need is 3C.

As much as we could use an upgrade at 3C... I don’t know how anyone can say with a straight face that a 3C would improve this current team more than Taylor Hall at 2LW.

The 5v5 offense is poooooo. Smelly. Smelly. Poo. Hall brings that.

Arguably... a winger like Hall could also provide the freedom to have ‘the big 3’ to be played at centre resulting in Nuge as our 3C.

How is <insert 3rd line centre here> a greater improvement than Taylor Hall?

What's the cost to get Hall? Supposedly the Devils want a hell of a lot for him but teams have backed off because based on all the reports, it sure seems like Hall is bound and determined to go to free agency. So what's the cost to get Hall for maybe 4-6 months? I am not giving up Bouchard or Broberg or a first for a few months of Hall. If you could get Hall for what Ottawa got for Stone with was a decent prospect and a second, then I think about it. So like a Jones and a second. At the same time, the Oilers are not a team who can be affording to be spending a lot of assets for rentals.

I would much rather go out and try to get a guy like Toffoli. He's a UFA as well. Has lots of playoff experience, if a good top 9 forward but he makes 4.6 mill, had a down season last year, he's a right shot which they lack, is on pace for an OK season this year. But is a guy who shouldn't cost you as much as Hall and who maybe you could resign and it wouldn't cost you as much as Hall. If you trade for Hall, you have to be able to resign him. I do not think he is worth more than Leon. So pretend he says yes to Leon's money, that means Nuge is a goner. Your big 3 would be McDavid, Leon, Hall.

I keep hearing Broberg as untouchable. Wasn't he a reach where we drafted him just a few months ago? I hear he plays in a league that's about the same quality as the AHL!

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

It all depends on who you looked at for the draft guys. Some had him lower, some had him where the Oilers took him. He doesn't turn 19 until June and he's in the top Swedish league holding his own. I don't think I have heard anyone say he won't be a really good player since he was drafted.

The guys who said Broberg was a reach are many of the same guys who had JP as a stone cold lock to be an amazing player.

Nevermind going for Hall! Kovalchuk released. Praise to the highest! There’s our winger. Let’s abort Hall and go hard for a 3C

Kovalchuk can't skate. Why on earth would you bring in a guy that can't skate.

I hope so. There were people in here advocating to sign Kovalchuk when he was a free agent and willing to give big money to get him.

Yeah. Definitely kidding to prove a point. Kovy goes back East, that’s an Oscar guarantee.

Anyone see the projected lines for tonight? Sure looks like a team that sorely needs a 3C.

Now it is up to the Oilers for must win trades and games. For the record I have more faith in this trio's post quality than the one ice equivalent.

Nevermind going for Hall! Kovalchuk released. Praise to the highest! There’s our winger. Let’s abort Hall and go hard for a 3C

Are you kidding me?

Kovalchuk can't skate. Why on earth would you bring in a guy that can't skate.

He's kidding.

C'mon 'Gasm, everyone knows that an Oilers fan board is taken 100% serious. No more joking around. This is big business played by big boys in big games trying to get big wins!!!!!

We’re in the business of must wins buddy. Must win games. Must win trades. Must win posts.

I'm more of a moral victory poster and fan. As long as my wings are saucy and my takes are spicy, I'm a happy man.

Name a spicier wing than Taylor Hall!

Christian Dvorak is being sandwiched between 2 of the spiciest wings in NHL history.

Hall-Dvorak-Kessel is the AZ top line tonight. Hall is wearing #91 now, for his birth year I assume.

A spicy wing, a cheeseburger and a... religious dude(?), walk into a bar

Bad joke. Poor effort. I could be an Oilers winger!

Should be a hot dog :)

White sauce scores off his white sauce covered hand. Hall creates the play to get a 2nd assist.

Bu...bu...but he wouldn’t have made the Oilers playoff chances any better.

Think of the experience the young Oilers can gain from making the playoffs...success breeds confidence. I can see the headlines now;
“inexperienced Oilers crumble down the stretch”
“Oilers fall short of playoffs yet again”
“Does Connor McDavid want out?”

Okay maybe I’m overreacting. But every year we hear “how much longer is McDavid going to put up with mediocrity?”. This franchise and fan base need playoff hockey.

Miracle start to the Hall era. Although, outshot 11-4 and 3-0 high danger chances against. ANd he was out for a brutal shift that let SJ score their first one.

BUt, it all worked out in the end, lucky goal with OEL's shot going off the tip of the hand of white sauce. Continuing to be curious if Hall gets back to Hall-like advanced stats, since we will probably be making a push for him this summer.

Nevermind going for Hall! Kovalchuk released. Praise to the highest! There’s our winger. Let’s abort Hall and go hard for a 3C

Are you kidding me?

Kovalchuk can't skate. Why on earth would you bring in a guy that can't skate.

Easy. Get McDavid to start diving everywhere. Average 5 powerplays per game. Kovalchuk gets 10 minutes of PP icetime each game and that's it.

Taylor Hall is an Arizona Coyote. Deal will be announced soon. Players and picks, but no prospects involved, I'm told.

For a guy who has said he's like to play in a hockey market, this is the exact opposite. I have to think it would be a complete rental.

Devils get a first, conditional 3rd that could become either a first or second and prospects Nate Schnarr, Nick Merkley and Kevin Bahl. It becomes a first if they resign Hall and win a playoff round. It becomes a second if one of the 2 things happens.

I wouldn't have give potentially 2 firsts for Hall.

That was definitely out of our price range.

Guess we'll have to wait until the summer to see if Stauffer hasn't been full of it.

Shero never let teams talk to Hall. I wonder if Shero knew that Hall had a destination in mind this coming summer. That would mean any conversations with teams would result in them knowing 100% that Hall would only be a rental and there was zero hope to resign him. Better off leaving that as an unknown during the bidding war.

The package the Devils got is nothing but potential so there is no guarantee they amount to anything. What would be the Oilers equivalent for the prospects?

Merkley is a second year pro. So maybe a Benson or Yamo be?
Schnarr is a first year pro. Maybe Maximov?
Bahl is a 2018 second round pick.

I don't think the Oilers have enough depth to be giving up a Benson or Yamo plus a first and the other prospects for most likely a few months of Hall.

Picks/prospects are still assets though. Good players are acquired using those assets, like Hall just was. There is no way NJD would have got that kind of return for Larsson 4 years ago when Hamilton was traded for a 1st and 2 2nds. We would be lucky to get a couple late 2nds for Larsson right now.

Our equivalent. Bahl has been trending well, massive 2-way D with good skating. NJD really liked him because he plays with a number of their other prospects. Not sure if we have an equivalent prospect. Maybe in terms of value Bear is close. Benson and Maximov are probably about right for the other guys.

So, Bear, Benson, Maximov, 1st rounder and another 1st if we resigned Hall. Yikes.

I think you're overstating Bahl's value. Bear has almost 150 games of pro-hockey under his belt (53 in the NHL). He's a half-step away from being an NHL regular if he's not there already. Bahl is much more still a prospect at this point imo. Samorukov might be a better comparable from the Oilers. I also think Benson is a better prospect than Merkeley, but it's probably close enough.

Regardless, the Oilers have McDavid/Drai on pace for over 260 points combined and legitimately might miss the playoffs. They need to be making moves to make the team better right now. And maybe it's moot and they can't do anything without better goaltending anyways, but man if they miss the playoffs this year, that's a waste to 2 huge seasons from those guys.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 pace: 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) after 64 games

May be overstating on Bahl, but I think NJD were really targeting him and see him in a brighter light than others. Keep hearing about how NJD would be after him because he plays with 3 of their other prospects right now. Guess I should talk in terms of value from NJD's perspective. Bear has pro games under his belt, but now he's closer to a known quantity as a 3rd pair, possibly consistent 2nd pair guy. NJD may see Bahl as having higher potential than Bear. I'd probably have a hard time giving up on Samurokov too :)

2020 first-round pick (top three-protected) - we cant draft anyways
2021 conditional pick (could potentially be a first-round selection) bottom 8 pick if it happens

I also think he has us overpaying by 1 player. But I’d do it. We’ve wasted 1/3 of Connor’s career and potentially half of his Edmonton one...

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

3 Cups

Arizona gets a bunch better.
Calgary heating up.
Vegas surging.

Likely looking at wildcard or golfing.

Just an honest man’s assumption based on simple math and history.

The Oilers aren't in a position to be wasting asset on a rental. If the Devils would have taken JP who's a bust and a low end d prospect then sure, go ahead. But you don't give up a first and screw over your team for a round of playoffs to make a few bitter fans happy for a few days. The previous GM made lots of stupid mistakes, giving up a first to get a few months of Hall would have been another mistake. If you are trading a first, you better be getting a player that will be with the team for longer than a few months.
