David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod 1m
Lots and lots of talking between Philly & Edmonton. They even ducked out earlier and went for a chat off the draft floor. Talk on floor now
Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug 43s
Mactavish and Lombardi chatting, Howson in there too
Dan Tencer @dantencer 9s
MacT going for a walk. He's cooking. He's up right now shaking and baking something

lame. Was hoping the oilers get a top goalie prospect and MTL takes FOOOOCALLEEEEE (Button pronunciation) right before our first 2nd round pick.
Wow, and MacT bails on their 37th pick after Fucale is taken for 3 later picks.

Meh, not sure what to make of this. I guess having 3 picks could be better than having 1 higher one, especially if it's #37.

You know what we need more than high potential players or trades for NHLers? LOW picks that won't amount to a hill of crap.
Fire MacT. (Less jokingly now.)

We couldn't really expect to see MacT make any major deals at this point if he hadn't before their 1st round pick. It looks more and more like he's going to see what the market is like once compliance buyouts begin as a source for experienced help.

Did not like that trade with Madison Bowey on the borad.
Yes, I know we drafted Nurse. But Bowey is best player available, and it doesn't hurt adding a solid prospect to the pool. Look at what Pittsburgh has and tell me there's a problem with that.
Especially for a guy who maybe slipped a little, scoop him up when you get the chance.

Oilers wanted Fucale. Lombardi was at Oiler table, As soon as Fucale was gone Mactavish and Lombardi shook hands, picks swapped.
Makes sense. Guess they didn't have any guys they really wanted this high after Fucale was taken.

It looks like EDM and Philly were close on Coburn for 2nd+ but EDM cut bait. After that Fucale kept dropping and almost dropped to the Oilers.
Trading back now, will be almost guaranteed to get one of Jarry or Comrie, one of the other 2 top rated goalie prospects.

Sources say the Oilers are still hammering away at the Flyers with Coburn the primary target.
Still aiming for the homerun...
Mike Vogel @VogsCaps 35s
Philly added two D in first 2 rds. @SportsnetSpec By all reports, Oilers working Philly hard throughout draft. Really want Braydon Coburn.
Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug 48s
Holmgren huddling with his table after leaving Mactavish.

We should just tell Holmgren and MacTavish to get a room by this point. That or help Braydon Coburn pack his bags.

What's the strategy? Gather more long-shot players?
Thought for a second that Madison Bowey might slip to us again. Too bad. Comes from a great program in Kelowna, would have added another defensive prospect. And a Right-Handed one.
Wonder if Comrie will be around for our next pick.

What in God's green Earth are the Oilers doing? MacTavish must think this effing draft is deep right to the bitter end.
Let's load up on late, late picks boys! That'll show the fanbase just how much of a crapshoot we honestly think the draft is! Maybe one or two of these random late rounders might pan out, right? Right????
This draft is awful so far. Way to do nothing of any real significance Craig....

Honestly, I wanted the second round picks traded for some roster depth.
Potentially I even had wanted the first round pick traded, if there was a deal that made sense (it seems like there wasn't).
But if we were going to pick, I would have been happy with Nurse, Bowey, and Comrie... all of which were available. I guess we'll see with Roy - don't have anything against him - but the lower you keep trading, the odds of finding an NHLer become less and less.

You would have to crunch the numbers. Is the probability of a third round pick becoming an NHLer three times more likely than a fifth round pick?
Either way, trade one long shot for three long shots. As long as the scouting has been done, it's a good deal.

Without any research done, I'd guess there is a significant drop off between second round picks (especially in the first half) and those in the third and fourth round.
There were some pretty solid prospects still on the board (not flawless, but solid). I'd rather have one or two guys with a better shot of making the NHL, than three or four that have a much longer shot at making the NHL.
