Does Principe not have any idea that people might actually be watching his telecast?

He OPENS with a fart joke to Ferraro in the box, and then follows that up with a live-action demo as to what happen to Pitkanen by firing his FACE into a metal seat railing, as a stupified Blues fan looks on!!??!!

My reaction was summed up out loud.

What the F___?

Gene is the perfect TV guy for a mac-T team, most of the time you are asking yourself WTF how did you ever think that was a good idea.

I wish they would add step down to mac-T's new years resolution list then maybe I'd take the time to vote.

That was a solid Mac-T period, 3 shots 0 shot on 2 PP's, huggy on the PP and Thor on the first.

Holy Pitkanen!!

They have identified their main weakness, the powerplay... what does this mean? The ppv is sugar coating their stats.

Let us hope.

Agreed Monkey, he seems quite juvenile.

Principe has always kind of sucked but he just gets exposed on these ppv's because he has to talk more and there is no script of any kind.

Talking about Brown being gassy... terrible.

How can a coach with even half a brain justify playing both of Smid and Grebeshkov and having Tarnstrom, who has been solid this season and at least has some reasonable NHL experience, in the pressbox? Not only that, how can said coach then play those two "green" defenders AS A PAIR?

Answer: MacT doesn't even have half a brain.

Other observation there: the whole sequence on the St. Louis goal started with a hook on Pisani that we HAVE seen called before.

Hey so far MacT's game plan is perefect. Now they'll sit back and protect the 1 goal lead maybe even pad it a little.

Do the Oilers even try to score goals anymore? They're so inept on offense. I don't have a clue why Mac-T things are starting to turn around.

That is a bad, bad penalty for Nilsson to take, 200 feet from his own net.

Also, the last Oiler PP re-enforced an old rule I used to state about 2 years ago. There are three guys who should be nowhere near a half-decent NHL powerplay:

- Ethan Moreau
- Steve Staios
- Radek Dvorak

The first guy on that list was on the ice, and had trouble handling the puck on a couple of occasions.

The really sad part? Even if this team was fully healthy, he might still be getting those minutes. icon_rolleyes He is what he is....but he is NOT an offensive stalwart.

That better have only been a one shift thing. If they're going to MacShuffle Nilsson off that line already, put Thoresen (or Reasoner, or Brodziak) at center with Moreau and Pisani and move Cogliano up there.

You know....someone with actual skill.

Anyone else worry about the amount of PP time Moreau and Pisani is getting and the lack of PP time Gagner\Cogliano\Nilsson\Torres\Stoll get?

Or that Reasoner is the designated 6th man?

Or that Grebs, who's more offensive than defensive, plays a lot of PK and very little PP?

Or that MacT's go to offensive guys are Reasoner, Thoresen, Pisani, and Moreau?

Yes to most of that.

Except for the part about Stoll and the PP. He's getting his minutes, but he's not doing anything with them.

Then again.....nor is anyone else.

Does ANYONE else think that the powerplay issue MIGHT just be the system and NOT the players executing it? Did anyone notice how Montreal's powerplay didn't skip a beat when Souray left town? Hmmmmm.....

I was just thinking that at one point the 2nd PP unit was Nilsson, Gagner, and Cogilano. I seem to remember thinking they generated more chances and were more creative than the 1st PP unit. Have one of them shift off for Pisani at the end, likely Gagner because he is the most aware, but worst defensively.

I also remember thinking that the reason they seemed to generate more chances is because they MOVED THEIR FEET. We pass up and down the boards, then one guy curls off the boards, and tries to hit Mr. Sneaky (who isn't) coming off the point.

The reason Montreal is successful is constant motion. Make the defenders have to constantly check over both shoulders. Ours is a dead looking game of keep away more than a PP, if we gain the zone.

Ironically, I think that Montreal mirrors the Oilers in a lot of ways. Brilliant PP, but 5 on 5 they are not good. Okay, maybe we're not brilliant at anything, but our PK is pretty decent. Montreal has better goaltending though.

Carbonneau is a powerplay savant, but I don't think he's a great head coach.

On a side note I was just looking at the nhl.com stats page and we're dead last in the league in GF/game. Awesome. I'm not really surprised, but it hurts to actually see it.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Ironic: MacT blames the powerplay for the recent skid.

Ummm, Craig? You know you're allowed to try and create offense at 5on5 as well? Do you also know that if it is indeed the powerplay's fault.....it's YOUR fault for putting such a piss-poor system in place?

I was really hoping Gene would reenact the Greene broken ankle injury... I would have loved to see him jump up and smash his leg into the concrete with some Hogan type intensity as St. Louis fans simply thought once again "WTF"?

That would have been worth my $12 - Right now I am feeling like I just wasted money that could have been spent on a beer and a half at a WHL game...
