Jarry really channeled the Schwartz tonight.

8 goals already in this game, 0 points for Crosby (-3) or Barzal (-2). The Yzerman channeling is quite weak in this one for top players.

Talbot looking damn good for Minny.

What's it take to get a goalie like that?

Er, I should say, what does it take to get a goalie like that and not turn him into a zero confidence mess that is letting in the first shot every other game that we feel we have to discard like trash instead of finding a way to help him get his game back together?

In hindsight, it probably would have helped to not play him 73 games in 16/17, considering that he had never played more than 56 in a season before and that was 7 more games (11%) than the goalie with the 2nd most games played that season. And then played the most games (67) the next season, despite missing 2 weeks with an injury or he for sure would have been above 70 again.

I'm happy for Talbot now though, seems like a good guy.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Definitely. We ran him into the ground. That hurt us in the 2017 playoffs by the end too. One of those McLellan trademarks unfortunately.

We really don't have a handle on goalies here. You would think a good team could recognize talent and what a goalie is capable of if handled properly. We just lost a starting goalie that we developed from scratch because of 1 bad year. Dubs took 1 summer to get it back together. Talbot ended up doing the exact same thing. I guess we do the same thing with all positions, throw them away for a bad year, and on the flip side, paying top dollar for a good couple months.

May have something to do with having no functioning analytics group within the team. They're completely swayed by small sample sizes, with no focus on what's driving those results. A high or low shooting percentage fools them completely. Ditto save percentage for the goalies.

They also use only optimism for anyone they're bringing in - assuming some high level of growth just because they come here (ie. Ryan Strome), but then any struggles when here and they quickly sour on players, rather than looking at why and whether things are likely to improve (ie. Ryan Strome).

This is what happens when you have an office full of old guys who only want to do it the way it was done 25 years ago, and spurn any new ideas. If this is Moneyball, the team is being run by those old schmuck scouts talking about whether the player's got a hot girlfriend or not.

Looks like Schwartz completed the trifecta this year. Kostko, Jarry and Hart. 3 guys he worked with for this season. 3 guys that have achieved maximum hate from their respective fan bases.

Nashville could compare avg attendance, going back. I'd go there if I were Nashville's Twitter account, at up my fan support making Carolina's look pretty bad by comparison.

The leafs game plan to play game 6 like it was their game 7 does not appear to have succeeded. I wonder what the approach to game 7 will be.

Bend over, put their heads between their legs, and kiss their choking asses goodbye?

Seriously though, it could have been worse for the Laffs because at least they won some games in their playoff run.

To be a bit fair, the media weren’t just picking the Laffs to do their usual pandering to Toronto fans. They looked like the only team in the division who had any business making a playoff run. Also, they are missing key guys like Muzzin and Tavares.

Having said all of that, f—- the Laffs and their fans right up their asses with no lube.

Reaves ends his night doing Reaves things. Crosscheck to the back of Grubauer's head as he skated by him. Then headlock takedown of Graves, and in the scrum he drops his knee on Graves' head injuring him.

Reaves' biggest mistake that will probably land him a suspension? You guessed it, not being named Tom Wilson.

Two games for Reaves

Kadri loses appeal of his 8 game suspension.

After watching some of the teams left in the playoffs (Leaflets, Habs, Wpg excluded), the most noticeable thing to me is how FAST!, Quick, Big, and Physical the teams are.. Excluding Nurse, McDavid, Draisatl, Oilers starters are S L O W and small in comparison.. Major roster changes need to happen to get past the 1st round. (Kassian and Archibald have speed, but not top 6)

Need more speed, and size.. with skill, all around. Speed and Quickness should be the primary focus of all new acquisitions, including the draft.. speed is King.. fingers crossed!

Oiler pro-scouts worry me, whoever scouted Turris and figured he had something left for a 2 year contract should be suspect, same with Kahun. Oilers are supposed to have an analytics crew, should have a reviewable track record by now, if they have been missing on players then Oilers should re-vamp.

Franchise defining off-season ahead.

Oilers are supposed to have an analytics crew, should have a reviewable track record by now, if they have been missing on players then Oilers should re-vamp.

Franchise defining off-season ahead.

I'm pretty sure it's just one guy at this point, and I don't think anyone listens to them.

@OilersNerdAlert posted a couple of weeks ago that he had offered the team to do some work for them for relatively cheap and Chia ended it and then fired basically everyone. Not sure much has changed under Holland.

Quote:

Remember that time the Oilers analytics team called me to see if I might be able to help them work with the new high-grade data coming available, and I would’ve been willing to work for “my team” at a big discount to my usual rate, and Pete Chiarelli kiboshed it all? I do.

It’s somewhat reassuring to know that we had no chance at winning the Cup.

Did you think Kahun was a bad signing? 1 yr deal at 975 k to get 9 goals, 15 pts with no PP time. That's a 15 goal, 26 pt pace in 82. I don't think he's a top 6 guy but a 3rd liner? 15 goals for under 1 mill is decent in my opinion. I would prefer him to be a bit harder on the puck but if they could get a 3rd line center with some size, a bit of skill and can skate, have a bigger right winger with the same, I wouldn't be upset if they brought him back for under 1 mill. They are going to need dirt cheap guys who can score a bit 5 on 5 and can move up once in a while and not look completely out of place. I like Kahun better than a guy like Ennis.

I agree with you on Kahun. People seem more upset about him than is due. He scored more even strength goals than anyone but McDavid, Draisaitl and Puljujarvi. Even Nugent-Hopkins and Yamamoto didn't contribute as many goals. He isn't a perfect player and not my first choice to sit as 2LW next year, but he was good value for his contract.

Sphincters getting so tight in Leaf-Town they could cut re-bar.. icon_nod

I want Steve Dangle to be literally sobbing tears of outrage and despair. I want Jeff McNeil to go on a 2 month cheeseburger bender. All these Leaf fanboys in media and in general need to be considering their life choices. Make it so, hockey gods.

Oh man, might be able to hear Steve's screeching from Alberta if they lose tonight.

I didn't pay any attention to this guy prior to yesterday seeing his reaction to game 6, I had heard his name before I guess. For someone that somehow gets a profile as some kind of analyst, that's embarrassing. That's worse than a commoner like me sitting anonymously and alone in my basement and yelling at the Oilers (part of why I'm watching alone) on the big screen after too many whiskies.

At least Dangle doesn't act like he isn't a massive Leafs fan. Jeff O'Neill does it while being employed as a national hockey analyst and hosting a daily talk show televised nationally.

I actually like pointing and laughing at Dangle as the Leafs always fail. Makes for good viewing.

When Carey Price is playing well he’s a really good goaltender.

It's almost as if elite goaltenders can help your team win a series or something crazy like that.

I revised my outlook: it's better to be swept out than to piss away a series lead to lose in the playoffs. It's a better lesson for the losers in what needs to be done to win next time (if there is a next time).

I don’t care what happens in the playoffs now, that was what I needed after last week.

Lol. At least we have Toronto. When do generational Matthews and Marner demand a trade out of there? 3-1 lead against a team 18 down from them in the 56 game regular season.

Nor sure who to pull for next. I detest Montreal but Wpg isn't a lock for my support, but has a slight edge.

Beyond that I support a denial of Canadian teams besides Edmonton hosting the Cup.

I wonder if the Oil could put up a lowball offer for Mitch now that his stock in TO has seriously plummeted?
