Lets have some fun, hockey related or not what do you think will happen in 2018.
Oilers WILL make the playoffs
McDavid will be the scoring winner but not the MVP
Alberta NDP will continue to fall in the polls
Federal Liberals will be caught in more scandals but will still lead the polls
There will be more court challenges to the Pipelines
This summer will be hot and dry and more fires
Donald Trump will face impeachment on some bull crap charge
Edmonton is awarded the 2019 All Star Game
Patrick Maroon is dealt at the deadline
Either LD or Nuge is dealt in the summer

If I were a religious man, I'd be praying for this to happen. Assassination would be an acceptable second option.

Depends on who does it. If it’s a left wing extremist then things could get much worse overall with the political blowback and subsequent clamp down with a giant push from the right supporters that are still behind their guy. Things are already politically polarized right now.
Illegitimi non carborundum.

Sure, let's talk about all the wild speculation around the Oil concerning the player movements and coaching/GM staff changes that will be made to turn this season around...........

I find it very easy to predict what the Oilers will do as collective whole (spoiler: they'll under perform compared to expectations) but extremely difficult to guess what individual moves will be made because the Oilers operate irrationally. Trying to accurately predict what a reactionary team run by the 'smartest men in hockey' will do is an exercise in folly. Personally, I hope they fire literally everyone in between Katz and McDavid and Katz puts the team into something of a blind trust, but I have no reason to believe that will happen. I think the Oilers will show marginal improvement over the second half of this season decide to stand mostly firm over the off season assuming that natural progression will push the team forward. I have no reason to believe this will happen. Spare parts will be moved in and out and nothing of substance will change. We'll start 2019 like we finished 2017, not know what this team is doing.

Agreed. There's some things that will definitely happen, because Oilers:
1) Player scapegoating. We'll hear from GM/Coach/Vice-Chair about how disappointed they were with the progression of certain players. A couple of moves will be made. There will be rumours circulated in the media about certain guys not being "good in the dressing room" or "coach killers". Whoever is sent out will get fingered as a big part of the problem. Patrick Maroon, almost certainly signing somewhere else, is probably going to get some blame too. Kris Russell and Milan Lucic are NOT the problem.
2) Minor change to management/coaching dressed up as a major change. Someone is getting fired after this debacle, it's only a matter of who...which will be mostly decided based on the level of fan anger felt by the franchise. If March & April are ugly, then it could go as high as Todd McLellan...but if it's just simmering, they maybe will axe Dustin Schwartz and stand back and see if that lets off enough steam.
3) Some big, ill-conceived trade will happen, making the team worse. Nugent-Hopkins or Oscar Klefbom are the next in line here for a Chia-special. They weren't acquired by Chiarelli, so can still be cast as him putting his "stamp" on the organization. They're good players who other teams will want to fleece us for. And they collectively make just over $10MM. There's going to need to be some cost cutting to deal with the cap moving forward and to allow space to sign more guys...we're going to need a big free agent splash here to sell hope for next year after all. The GM has already said he doesn't know how he'll be able to deal with his top two players making $21MM, so we'll almost certainly see some bargain giveaways before July 1.
4) The UFA big fish. It might be an underwhelming big fish, but the Oilers are going to sign someone this summer with some level of glamour to the signing. Probably someone who won a Cup at some point, an older player due for a decline to a long and costly contract with a no-move clause. But it's okay, because they're definitely going to be a glue guy.
5) Sermons from the mount. We're going to get several stern sounding speeches from Chiarelli, maybe Lowe, maybe McLellan about how this wasn't good enough, that changes are needed, and that they expect more of the team than this.
And then more mediocrity to follow.
"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
