The November schedule looks a lot more difficult than the cream puff building opening October schedule the NHL gifted the Oilers. If I were a conspiracy minded person, I would think that was on purpose, but I'm not, so it wasn't. This month features a five game roadie and a virtual 6 game (why the Oilers are going Dallas - Edmonton - Denver over 5 nights is beyond reason). 15 games over 30 nights in 11 cities is going to be tough no matter what, so let's see what the Oilers actually are.

7-6-2

-McDAvid is going to light up Auston like a molding Halloween pumpkin all month.
-The Oilers will lose in Dallas because the state assembly made it illegal for any Oilers team to win in Texas after the Houston moved to Nashville. I still hate the Stars.
-The Phoenix back to back is huge. The Oilers need to win against the lesser teams in the division. Remember if they finish ahead of Calgary (awful) Vancouver (awfuler) and Phoenix (awfulist) they're damn near in. Losing points to Phx is a disaster.

15 games in the month of November is bananas. Only one true back-to-back, but with so many in close proximity, and so many on the road, they may be kind of worn out by the end.

Anyways, I'll be more optimistic than last month... why not? 9-5-1

The schedule is much tougher, with 10 of 15 games on the road including a back-to-back evening/afternoon games. However, a lot of those road games are eastern teams. I think they will barely manage a winning record for November.

Nov 1 – Oilers at Maple Leafs 5-2 W
Nov 3 - Oilers at Rangers 1-3 L
Nov 5 – Oilers at Islanders 0-4 L
Nov 6 – Oilers at Red Wings 0-3 L
Nov 8 – Oilers at Penguins 2-5 L
Nov 11 – Oilers vs Stars 3-2 OTW
Nov 13 – Oilers vs. Rangers 5-2W
Nov 15 – Oilers at Ducks 6-2 W
Nov 17 – Oilers at Kings 4-2 W
Nov 19 – Oilers at Stars 0-5 L
Nov 21 – Oilers vs. Blackhawks 2-5 L
Nov 23 – Oilers at Avalanche 6-4 W
Nov 25 – Oilers at Coyotes 8-1 W
Nov 27 – Oilers vs. Coyotes 2-0 W
Nov 29 – Oilers vs. Maple Leafs 1-4 L (stupid leaf jerseys everywhere at Rogers Place)

Overall the team goes 8-7-0 and stays in a playoff spot.

15 games in 30 days? WT F schedulers!
As brutal as that schedule is I'd be happy with even a 50/50 record.

That being said:

14-9-1 heading into December would incredible for this team.

Back to reality. 5-7-3 in November. Oilers have not yet faced a good team in their own building. We've been able to get the match-ups we wanted most times, but that comes to a crashing halt with two thirds of the November games in other team's buildings. I suspect that the fact that behind McDavid, no other line is outplaying their opposition is going to do us a lot more damage when we're not getting our desired match-ups.

On the plus side, I think McDavid will still end November in the top two or three in the league in scoring...

How many games has it been since we've beat the Coyotes in regulation? 23? 24? It's obscene. For whatever reason, the Oilers always play down to the Coyotes. I hope that I'm wrong and we finally break through there, but that team has absolutely owned the Oilers for the better part of four or five years...despite them also being pretty awful.

Have they really been playing 'down' to the Coyotes though for the last several years? More like 'over'. Regardless, history doesn't matter, I think they can continue this year's trend of beating these types of teams.

If you've got the Oilers losing 2 to Phoenix you've already got this season as loss.

BUMP.

Guh.

It's hard to envision a team losing that many points to Arizona making the playoffs. I do not like.

Luckily we had that great October. Even with a less than stellar November, we still sit 1st in our division going into December.

I predicted coming out of November with 28 points, which we can do with a win against the Leafs tomorrow. That's a 96 point pace which would have us in the playoffs. The key now is to avoid those 4-5 game losing streaks.

Yeesh. That would be a pretty dubious honour. I was really hoping I'd be proven really wrong here.

Also, if we lost twice to Toronto AND twice to Arizona in the same month...well...that's BAD. Playoff teams don't do that.

At least it looks like my plus side prediction was correct!

You pretty much are going to nail it, my vision was clouded and I didn't recognize the Oilers 'oilering' much of November, as several years of recent history would prove.

Pretty sad. I was the most negative poster, and even I turned out to be optimistic.

Basically, the only reason we're still in it is that our division is full of crap teams.

Although as I write this, the Flames are spanking those same Leafs that we gave up three of four points to.

I wonder how negative the December predictions look...

My negativity is materializing in recent GDT and post-game rants. The good thing though is that I'm not the most negative in those boards. I believe I was pretty much checked out by this time the last few years, so I still care enough this year to be angry. I just hate them blowing the capital they built early.

Hard to say with Pi whether he's really negative or is just yanking chains (as he claims from time to time). It's all fun though.

7-8. Come out of November 14-10 which would still have us on a playoff pace.

The beauty of the great start we had is that .500 the rest of the year almost has us in a playoff position. We just need to avoid those Novembers of years past.
