Pants launched. Gotch launched.

Resign Kane.

So glad Hyman is an Oiler.

Not as clean of a game as the last one, but we stuck to the plan for most of the game, didn't give them many grade A chances and took ours. A bit of a wobble late in the 2nd, but they came out in the 3rd way better.

Kane and Kurri the only Oilers to score hat-tricks against the Kings in the play-offs. Not bad company for Kane to join is it.

Not quite the emotional victory that game 2 was, but a dominant effort, much of they Kings' effort came from the perimeter. Although the Oilers bent a bit, they took advantage of LA and made it a real laugher. Never in doubt. Line 1 couldn't be stopped.

12k for the viewing party, not bad.

Gotta be demoralizing for LA, the crowd was silenced pretty early. Do they told? Shouldn't matter to the Oilers, if they play to the baseline established for playoff hockey they win.

Weird. I’m absolutely positive I picked the Oilers to win 4-3 but the contest says the opposite? Oh well, Oilers crushed ‘em, that’s what is important!

Go Oilers Go !!!

I had the Kings to win 5-1 or 5-2, and this being the only game they win. I may be right on the series scoreline eventually, but this game I sort of got it a bit wrong.

As a side note, I now feel awful predicting us to lose whilst Ben was in the house.. That's 11-0 now isn't it. At this rate, the Oilers should be putting Ben and the family on the charter flights with them to every game.

His (Ben’s) Dad posted on twitter that they wouldn’t be there for game 3 but will be for game 4.

Watched the game after. Avoided all media and texts. That game was far superior to Chris Stapleton.

Unreal. Petersen starts game 4?

I think the Todd goes back to Quick for game 4. Peterson was beat for 4 goals also last night, didn’t see much from him that was spark inducing really. The Toddfather’s postgame presser was top shelf though, lasted 31 seconds;

“We can do this really quick tonight, I can summarize it all up for you, and we can all go home. We weren't any good. We’re really disappointed. We got trapped playing their game. You can ask me about individual, they weren't any good. And we have to regroup tomorrow. Grundy didn't play because he had an injury. Anybody have anything else?

Goodnight.”

This coming after his “our powerplay is what it is and we’re not going to reinvent the wheel” comment post game 2.

@StatsbySTATS
The @EdmontonOilers are the first team in NHL history to lose the first game of a playoff series but then win the next two by 6+ goals each.

Tonight was also the 4th time the Oilers have beaten the Kings by 6+ goals in the playoffs, the most by any team against a single opponent all-time.

This guy is so ridiculously well spoken. He's right about the McLellan tactic of just shooting from anywhere. Even though the Kings ran up the shot clock we won the high danger chances battle 20 to 10 at 5v5. I forget, did Todd always coach like Eakins?

The other thing I like here is his concept that momentum doesn't carry over. I think that's an important thing for players to remember. Dominating them for two games doesn't matter at all if we don't win two more games against them here, so as much fun as these two games have been, we need to keep doing it.

"We're going to celebrate for 15 minutes, then refocus." "The score doesn't matter..." "We have to get to four." Those are all good messages.

I think we can - the Oilers are the better team, and Woodcroft is the better coach.

I saw a video with Mike Smith and Colby Armstrong this morning. Smith said that Woodcroft is very detailed, and in the room they know exactly what happened for every major breakdown. McLellan wanted to break it down for the media instead, but while Woodcroft is apparently drilling in to these things in the video room, he is not airing it in the media after each game. He still refuses to take the bait when they're asking about Mike Smith's gaffe in game one. Players respect when their coach has their back.

Okay - now on to game four.

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55

Bingo...memory that stands out for me would be the Bruins absolutely dominating the Blues in 3 of their wins with 2 being "blowouts" yet St Louis still captured the series in 7. Expect a much more desperate effort from the Kings in Game 4.

Smith made a lot of great saves, he's looking good.. D still figuring it out, but getting better.

Kane is exactly what McDavid has needed since he's been drafted.. the guy just puts the puck in the net, whether its a snipe, hack & whack, backhand, forehand, or tip he puts the puck at the net.. plus the speed and hockey IQ to keep up with the play of McD, his hits and physicality makes extra breathing room for McD.. and he flat out intimidates opposing players.. no one even looks at McDavid sideways when he's on the ice.
If Bison could match a few of those skills that line would be unstoppable, and McDavid would have 200+ points per season. I think Bison has a lot of room to improve, stopping on pucks, using his massive size to his advantage, and his shot! Hopefully he works on those in the off season, if he improves in those areas he could be a major threat.

Archibald really improves that 3rd line, the missing ingredient.. has puck smarts, speed, physicality, excellent on the PK.. great addition for the playoffs.

Keep it rollin' boys!

Agree with the rest of your post but removed it as I wanna focus on this part. I disagree on the point re: the 3rd line. Aside from Nuge getting some extended time with Kane in the 3rd period of a game they were handle winning, the normal Nuge line had underwhelmed the heck out of me. At first, when Nuge’s contributions came last night, I thought right on that line is getting it going. But it wasn’t. It was Nuge being gifted time with players better than Archibald.

The 3 of them have had direct impacts on the Pk, but 5v5 when they are on the ice together I’ve thought they have been the weak part of the oilers lineup. Foegele-McLeod-Kass, though being left off the scoresheet last night, have been better than the Nuge line in games 2 and 3.

Just nitpicking though, as the team has clearly won some lopsided affairs here but the Nuge line getting it together 5v5 sets the team up to make some real noise should they get past LA

Yeah I agree the 3rd line (Nuge's line) still isn't getting a lot of grade A's with #15.. but I think they're playing a lot more in the offensive zone with 15 than with Foegle RNH Ryan.. they could always go 15 - 71 - 44 as well, that would be a good line.. but basically icing #15 instead of Shore is a big upgrade no matter what line he's on.
Super-duper upgrade on the PK.

Agree on Arch over Shore, especially for PK.

A little surprised that they went Arch over Brassard, though the aforementioned pk could be the reason. And I mean, not sure that Brassard could bring anything more impactful than Arch.

The thing about Kane is that he's using a measured amount of being nasty. He has the sense so far to keep much of what he's capable of in his hip pocket. I think as far as JP goes, he just has to have a way to play second fiddle to the chemistry between McDavid and Kane, and what those guys can do on their own. He's getting better with timing and physicality, and making his touches meaningful each game. As long as play doesn't die with his touches, I'm good.

I think we're seeing chemistry and confidence develop down the lineup, among players who guaranteed have defined roles in which they can succeed. Could be pretty huge for this club in overcoming the big obstacles and setbacks that no doubt lie ahead.

Oh.. and Zack Hyman.. the guy is freaking Beast Mode 24/7.. ABSOLUTELY RELENTLESS! EVERY SHIFT! .. best off-season UFA signing I can remember in the last 20 years. icon_nod

and Yamomoto .. man has he elevated his game the last month or so.. and he's increased it even more for the playoffs.. he's a sparkplug.. smallest guy on the team running around finishing checks, getting smacked down.. bouncing back up.. retrieving pucks, cycling, driving the net.. sets perfect example for other guys like McLeod and Foegle who are normally less so..

Along with Kane and Smith, these guys are my biggest surprises.

Yamo especially, he's the smallest guy out there but he's playing like one of the biggest ones. Kid does not back down from anyone or anything.

The guy I'd add to the list is Ceci. Quiet but effective. He's the perfect Dman you never notice because he's doing the right things.

And Bouchard looks like he's been playing the NHL for a decade.

Illegitimi non carborundum.
