Greetings Oilfriends,

I am pleased as punch to announce a limited edition return to Oilfans Survivor. Over the next few weeks we'll compete in a luck-based guessing game skillful test of hockey knowledge and mental prowess to determine who among us is the supreme master of hockey. As always, all members are invited to play our silly little game and friendly banter is most appreciated in this thread.

Friendly reminder that the current supreme master of all things hockey is Oilpeg. Oilpeg beat all contenders and pretenders in Survivor 77 and therefore deserves our respect and adulation. Congratulations Oilpeg on that victory. I know for certain you did not want to be the eternal champion and would much rather put the championship belt on the line. Freakin' Oilpeg. What a character.

The 2021 holiday season survivor returns with a twist! This time, in addition to the traditional Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday NHL schedule, I'll also be including World Junior games. Because what would be safer than betting on hormonal children, suddenly thrust into the limelight? Of course, the WJHC hasn't started yet, so we'll have to deal with boring the boring old NHL schedule for now.

The rules (abridged):

Pick a winner every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from posted games and move on to the next round. Should your pick lose or be postponed due to reasons, you're out. When we're down to 2 players, it's shootout time... which we'll get to later. The full rules are the same as benv's with the added pandemic clause.

The games:

Ottawa @ Florida
Montreal @ Pittsburgh
Vegas @ Boston
LA @ * Tampa Bay
New Jersey @ Philadelphia
New York Islanders @ Detroit
Carolina @ Minnesota
Buffalo @ Winnipeg
St. Louis @ Dallas
Toronto @ Edmonton
New York Rangers @ Colorado
Columbus @ Vancouver
Seattle @ San Jose
Calgary @ Nashville - PPD

Good luck.

*thank you Pi*

The Homer in me wants to take the Oil but the wiener in me (🤨) want to take Florida.

Let’s go Edmonton!

Edit: I don’t know how to do the strike out text, but with the Oilers game possibly in jeopardy imma pivot to the Panthers if able. If I live and die by the Oilers, so be it!

All streaks must come to an end and I predict that Vancouver's winning streak will come to an end by-

The Mighty BJ's! (aka Columbus)

Don't worry MJ, Survivor 78 is glorified pre-season. What we have is limited competitors taking part in a hasty executed tournament. I need practice running this and everyone needs practice picking. Hell, the defending champ isn't even bothering to show up because they know this one is just a placeholder for the real NHL + WJ event coming soon... where we can lose in the first round too.

tl;dr: the winner of this gets an asterisk.

Moving on:

Not moving on:

Adam and Crude move on to the final shootout. I wonder if Philly is playing Saturday. I like how efficient we are. No mucking about trying to extend the tournament. Just get in, declare a winner, and start again. At this rate we might be able to run 4 survivors before I get busy again.

Shootout rules (abridged):

Each player picks five (5) winners from Saturday's games in ranked order without looking at the other's picks like we're play multiple rounds at once.

Florida @ Minnesota
LA @ Carolina
Boston @ Montreal (Le postponed)
Ottawa @ Philadelphia
Toronto @ Vancouver
NJ @ Detroit
Chicago @ Dallas
*TB @ Colorado
Edmonton @ Seattle
CBJ @ Calgary (the score app is saying this postponed)

Good luck gentlemen.

Edit 1: Sounds like the Montreal / Boston game is postponed

Now TO vs. Vancouver is cancelled. Hard to keep up with this stuff

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Tampa/Colorado now postponed. Down to just 5 games tonight total…

Pretty certain I win no matter what happens in the Oilers game. To be fair to CrudeRemarks though, he didn't realize it was sudden death and didn't rank his picks.

If the Oilers can win, I'll go 5 for 5 on the night and wish that I'd done a SportsSelect ticket!

Hey CrusaderPi - does that tie me for most ever wins now?
