Well after all that, the draft order was finalized today, and Burke will get 12th pick. Here's to hoping Anaheim chokes in R1 and we end up with a pick from them that's not too far behind (assuming that's how it works? I dunno)
ModEdit. Seems to have been some major confusion. We draw 12th!

Check the link my friend, its a 12th overall pick.
EDIT: You are correct. I appoligize. I was sure I seen 12th as the final result on TSN. But whatever the case there it is. Sorry for jumping on you.

Apparently, we are picking 11th, says TSN, but I think they forgot about Chicago's pick because they didn't list it anywhere.
I'm pretty sure it is
11th - Chicago
12th - Anaheim from Edmonton
13th - Buffalo
14th - Carolina

I know it's kinda outta the blue but I wish we could move up from our late round pick and draft Luke Schenn. Kid's gonna be force on the backend like Weber or Phaneuf (Probably not as much offensive upside). Surely will be a top 10 pick though.

I don't think it's a need. If we needed a defensive d-man, sure.
But as it stands now, we have a few highly touted defensive d-men:
Greene, Plante, Peckham
And you only really want 1 or 2 exclusively defensive d-men in your roster. Not a pressing need. I'd say they should look at either a winger or a goalie...but a solid 2-way d-man never hurts.
I don't think it's worth moving up in the draft this year though. Nothing stands out THAT much between 5-10 and 15-20...
But, Mackenzie has Michael Del Zotto as #12, started the season at #4...and ISS has him at #21. If he's available when we step up, I would say go for it with him. Or Schenn...but I doubt Schenn will still be around when we're up, and Del Zotto has the ability to be a major steal if Mackenzie had him at #4 to start the year.

Nah thats a bad way to think of things. Even with the plethora of good dman prospects, some won't pan out. Defensemen are always in demand and having another bluechipper like Schenn only makes the blue line better.
You can always trade some if they all develop as well.

If you don't NEED it, then why give away another asset just to trade up for it...is what I'm saying.
Sure, if Schenn were available I'd say go for it. But to move up 10 spots or so, we'd need to trade probably Stoll...or our 1st and Schremp...
Is it worth it for something we don't need? I say no.

I think the cup champs pick 30th and Cup losers pick 29th. The rest are just placed in reverse standings order from the regular season. So if the Ducks don't make the finals (which I think we're all hoping they don't for multiple reasons) we're picking 26th.

So best case scenario would be if Anaheim, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Detroit and San Jose all lost in the first round so that the Oilers get the 18th overall pick?

Do you have a source? In another thread, I posted the information from the NHL website that said that it was regular season rankings with the stanley cup winner picking 30th.

In the end KLowe did ok with the Penner signing so far. We didn't make the playoffs like I thought we would at the beginning of the year, but oh well. It was close. I think if we sign Pitkannen and trade Roli and some spare forwards for someone gritty like Glencross who can score 20 goals, we are looking pretty good for next year. Hopefully the shoulders hold up (Souray and Horcoff).
The one area we absolutely need serious help is on the PP. Its been a joke for years. That alone was the difference between Montreal and half the teams in the league.
We need a power play specialist coach, but whom, is the question?
So this is what hope feels like?

Actually, I think we have everything we need for both the 1st and 2nd PP right now. We started at such crapola that our season ranking is still pretty low, but I'd like to believe that the last 30 games or so saw our powerplay do very well.
To me, it was a combination of things:
1) Grebs improved play and puck movement on the PP - once he got over the brain cramps of giving the puck away on our own PP, he was mobile and skilled enough to move the puck around really, really well.
2) The kids - Having Hemmer and Gags on the powerplay paid big dividends. Not only did it put more focus on the forwards and those cross-seam passes (instead of the usual flip it around the half boards a bit, put it to the point for a blocked shot), it also took the focus off just Hemsky. The skilled young guys were able to handle the puck much better than some of the typical PP duds.
With Souray coming back, Penner keeping his big @$$ in the opposing goalie's faces, Horc returning, and hopefully Still returning to form, I really think we have what we need for a good PP.
Then again, I thought our PP was going to be dynamite all season which it wasn't.

I think our PP will be fine next year. Souray might have been part of the problem this year...early in the season it seemed like the team was so focused on getting him the one timer...and teams were so focused on playing him high and sutting it down...that our PP sucked hard.
Meanwhile, we learned that we can have success on the PP without Souray...and I hope that when he returns he only serves to enhance our success.
Our top two units include:
Souray/Pitkanen/Grebeshkov/Gilbert - 4 solid PP D-men (maybe keep Stoll in the mix)
Gagner/Hemsky/Horcoff/Nilsson - 4 solid forwards on the half-wall / down-low
Penner - only solid net presence we have right now. Maybe Raffi tries to win this roll on PP2 next year...maybe another rover in Cogliano...
PP unit 1:
Penner/Hemsky/Gagner/Souray/Pitkanen
PP unit 2:
Horcoff/Nilsson/Grebeshkov/Gilbert + 1 more forward.
