This back-to-hockey training camp is serving two purposes, one is the obvious get ready for playoffs, but the other is its like a mini-training camp where the Oiler coaches and management get a LONG first hand look at the up and comers like Bouchard, Broberg, McLeod, Marody and see how they compare to the current roster head to head. Great opportunity to review future roster planning for 2021.

Seabrook is out. Wonder how much of a hockey career the guy has left.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/blackhawks-brett-seabroo k-wont-play-stanley-cup-qualifying-round/

"Seabrook returned to the ice for Chicago’s Phase 3 training camp after having surgery on his right shoulder as well as both hips back in December. On Friday, the 34-year-old admitted that he didn’t feel comfortable after taking part in camp and wants to focus on being ready for next season. "

Maybe it's to the point we want him to play now? :)

Yeah - I was hoping to see him out there getting turnstiled by McDavid a few times before he threw in the towel. He was struggling mightily before he wasn't playing for months and months...I wasn't concerned about him returning to the lineup.

It does help that the Blackhawks dealt Gustafsson to the Flames at the deadline. Duncan Keith is likely to get a LOT of icetime.

Lots of contract to run.

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brent-seabrook

Have to think he's on LTIR to stay. Has an NMC for the next two seasons then a modified NMTC for 2 seasons after that, so someone here can explain if his contract can be dumped on Seattle if the Cracken need to reach the salary cap floor.

Wonder if we will find out the prospect of Seabrook playing D was the only reason Crawford was staying away from the team.

Thats pretty much what was expected minus Mike Green. How much do McLeod, Bouchard, or Broberg have to play before they burn a year of service?

I think they do for an ELC year being burned. Recent example is Cale Makar who started his career in the playoffs for the Avs. Played 10 games to burn year 1, and entered his 2nd ELC year this season.

Watched that Colby Cave scrimmage.

Broberg really impressed me. Very smooth skater, good passer...seemed to be pretty good defensively.

In Nurse's absence, Broberg was a great fit with Bear. It's hard to see how well or poorly a defenseman is doing with such basic camera work and all the participants on both sides Oilers, but Broberg seems to have improved immeasurably over the past year. They say that young defensemen don't take a direct developmental path, but I'm hoping Broberg can keep up when the competition gets intense.

That sucks! May have to resort to other means to watch the games. OT forum can help you there.

Thankfully earlier this year they let another broadcaster do two games a week, they have the first game v Chicago on Saturday then they've got some round robin games to show later in the week. Why show the round robin games at all!! I'll find the games some how, but it's infuriating to say the least I was expecting to be able to sit and watch everything from 5pm on Saturday through to the following Friday.

At least I've got the BOA tomorrow morning!!

You are one hell of a fan to book your holidays around this, but I guess it's not like you're going to be taking a flight for an exotic vacation any time soon.

I mentioned this somewhere else, but as I started in October my holiday year runs up to October and as I had one of my hips replaced last November I was off till mid to late Feb recovering. I got back into work about 4 or 5 weeks before we went into lock down. Apart from taking a couple of days off to attend concerts that I'd got tickets for (that have been rearranged for next year) I hadn't taken any holidays. I had close to 4 weeks worth of holidays to take quickly. So this was ideal, wall to wall hockey, lots of Oilers (so I thought) and not having to worry about lack of sleep etc. Still going to watch the hockey, but peeved no Oilers on tv.

As for exotic vacations, hoping to get to BC next summer with a day or two in Edmonton again next summer.... Maybe in time for next years cup parade (one can hope!)..

It’s not as good quality but if u know a good streaming site (pm for one) u can just take the HDMI cord from your to TV to your lap top and it’s still pretty decent

Well, hope that next summer, this is in our review mirror, and we're picking up the pieces, you'll be welcome. Have you been over here before?

I'm going to be interested to see how affordable air travel turns out to be coming out of this. I'm getting to the life stage where the kids aren't travelling with us, so we are wanting to travel to the UK and the continent at some point..... hopefully it's still going to be within reach, my business like many others has taken a bit of a beating here so suddenly there are financial considerations.

Watched that Colby Cave scrimmage.

Broberg really impressed me. Very smooth skater, good passer...seemed to be pretty good defensively.

I know this is just scrimmages against your team so it's probably not 100% game speed nor is some guy looking to take your head off but how Broberg has played is encouraging. I listened to Holland yesterday say he will go back to play in Sweden at some point which is the right call, no need to rush but so far it's looking like Broberg has a real good chance of being a legit player and maybe a good one.

I noticed the Saturday game is full network NBC. When is the last time the Oilers have had a network game? 2017? 2006?

I would guess game 7 in 2017 was the last time.

2006. The entire 2017 postseason run every game on US TV was on NBCSN.

See, this forced separation from the dressing room is good for Edmonton media! Terry Jones probably had to look up Koskinen on hockeydb to get that nugget! Before he'd just have been asking the coach while chowing down on free timbits.

Wait a second - why is Terry Jones talking about Joel Quenneville in this article, and his relationship with Dave Tippett??!?? Does he still think Quenneville coaches the Blackhawks?

Lol that's pretty fantastic.

Koskinen until he shouldn't start, I think Smith is better if Koskinen stinks and you need a guy to come in with some attitude and pick the team up.

I don't want to get too far down the path on this, but one of the big differences in sports is that somehow, for some reason, so many of these guys became minor sports celebrities too. If you go to the Royal Alberta Museum, there's a display for the Oilers that actually has Terry Jones "weak-kneed wimps" quote mentioned there as if that was something truly memorable or impactful in Oilers history. It wasn't. They had a team full of Hall of Fame players, so they were going to be pretty damn good whether Jones said something or not.

It isn't really the same with print journalists of most other stripes. You get the occasional Woodwards & Bernsteins, but they have to do something really special to get that kind of notice. There's more of that with TV personalities, but even so, they come and go. Yes - you should always look at any story to see if there's inherent biases driving some or all of the reporting, but no - Terry Jones isn't a good example of media. He's terrible, he's old, he's lazy and he loves Asian porn.

If you just don't listen to anyone because you don't feel you can trust any messenger, then you're going to struggle to understand what is real - and believe it or not, the President's twitter account isn't a great source of truthful facts.

Alright - back to hockey. If you want to talk to this further, please reply to me in the OT Forum.

For what it's worth, as dumb as it is to get Chicago's coach wrong, I hope that Jones is right about Koskinen playing. I'd prefer to see him in the crease.
