To Edm: Henrik Sammuelsson
To Arz: Mitch Moroz

Just announced on Gregors show

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

Just heard that as well... Interesting trade. Samuelsson's AHL numbers are a bit better, he's a center and a right shot vs LW in Moroz. Seems like a good low risk trade.

Good trade. Most importantly it maintains our ex-oil king number to keep us in line with the quota.

Minor league trade but I like it. Moroz was a dead end prospect. Samuelson is a big, right handed center. I take a center over a winger any day.

Good to trade an asset that you knew wasn't going to make it here for something they may have some upside & in an area of need....3rd line center with size & shoots right. Hopefully it pans out.

Former teammates on the Oil Kings weren't they? Interesting sidenote to the deal.

In my own (limited) opinion, Moroz wasn't going anywhere as a prospect, so even with knowing very little about how Samuelsson has progressed, I can't be mad about it. Just too bad they couldn't have got Tobias Reider back, hey?

Two guys with pretty big question marks surrounding them.

Moroz has 22 points in 123 AHL games. That's not promising.

But Samuelsson (who it was always rumoured the Oilers really wanted in 2012 - he went 5 picks before Moroz) has been better, but hasn't been lighting the world on fire there either with 55 points in 131 AHL games. This year, the wheels seem to have come off for him with just 3 points in 20 games.

In Samuelsson's defence, in his three AHL seasons, he's had three different head coaches (Ray Edwards, Ron Rolston, Mark Lamb). The team around him seems to have been wildly different each year too. It's very possible that Lamb just doesn't like the player for whatever reason. His first season in the AHL was a decent rookie campaign with 40 points in 68 games.

Both players had identical contracts - two way deals with $833,000 at the NHL level this year (which neither will ever see). Both expire at the end of this season, with restricted free agency looming if they get a qualifying offer. It looks likely that both teams would not have qualified either, so they're both auditioning for the next contract now. It's not dissimilar to the Andrew Miller trade last year - which worked out for Miller, he impressed Carolina enough that they signed him to a one-year deal after his audition last year.

Moroz was a dead end, and Samuelsson was at one point tracking MUCH better than him - in the three seasons they were teammates in Edmonton, Samuelsson scored 198 points in 162 games, while Moroz tallied 122 in 205 games. Given that, I think it's a good low risk deal. Either you put a prospect trending downwards back on track, or you just walk away from him rather than qualifying him this summer.

His wheels came off last year after he blew his ankle out, hasn't skated the same since. Not sure how much you can do to fix that

Always wondered what happened to Samuelsson, that would explain some of it, from a website;

Quote:

Arizona Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced that Henrik Samuelsson's season is over due to ankle surgery.
The 21-year-old defender managed just 16 games for AHL Springfield before getting hurt. He accumulated a goal, five points, and 10 PIMS in that time. Sun, Dec 6, 2015 02:17:00 PM

I was looking at the stats for the Condors musing on who would be called up, and noticed the line on Samuelsson:

5GP 0-0-0 w/ 4PIM.

I don't like his chances of getting a qualifying offer this summer.

Moroz may not either. He scored 3-3-6 in 24 games with Tucson following the trade. Better than he had been with Bakersfield, but not a world beater by any stretch.

If you cut former Oil Kings, how are you going to fill the former Oil King quota on the 50 man roster? Think before you speak, Adam.

The horror. The horror.

The best thing about the disaster of the Hall rebuild is Kris Russell is the 3rd Oilers player to wear the not retired #4. Kris. Russell. IF that isn't the perfect tribute to Karen Percy's husband I don't know what is.

One of those moves that doesn't get you excited one way or the other.

I guess they don't need Moroz to turn into Lucic anymore.

Moroz was and is and always be a AHL/ECHL player

Wait a second.

Arizona was the trade partner. That means Analytics must show Moroz is way better.

Samuelson's problem was always skating, he's got more skill that Moroz, but his wheels are lacking. Bo Horvath had a similar problem, got it fixed over a summer taking skating lessons, might be hope for Henry, but he's got to do a LOT of work. Maybe lend him LD's skating and training coach.
As I recall, I think either Lowe or McT are buddies with Ulfie.

Only 22, who knows .. zero risk ........he casually says as Moroz becomes the next Cam Neely ..
