Can't believe I predicted 4-2 Vancouver. What was i thinking?
Silver lining on Kassian not fighting, he doesn't get the satisfaction of a Gordie Howe hat trick
Edit: never mind, thought he had an assist on the first goal. Darn it Gaz, you have to make him fight

Well, that was a quality performance by a team that is right on track to contend for the Stanley Cup, year after year. They put in the effort to hang in there, and lost, but the reality is that this is only one game.
Key acquisitions such as Ben Scrivens and Matt Hendricks contributed to tonight's efforts in incredibly supportive ways. Good call MacT! It looks like his years obtaining his EMBA at Queen's University was time well spent.
2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Lucky the ice was so terrible today. Canucks could have been racking up the goals while we weren't trying 5 on 5 in the first 2 periods.
Only year 4 of the rebuild though, so that's OK.

Well done Gazdic, you let Kassian make you look like a monkey all night long and you didn't do a thing about it. If I was MacT, I'd have him on the next bus to OKC. That hurt to watch.

What were you watching? That was another game of exciting Oilers hockey! Late goal and they were THAT close to tying it. You count those posts as goals and we basically win that game. I think this one could very well count as a moral victory.
Also the other team didn't get 30 plus shots and they only scored twice...that has to count for something.

Maybe in the middle of the 3rd. I kinda heard something, but was very faint.
Unfortunately missed opportunity. I think Lowe ordered for the ice to be garbage tonight to help guarantee a close game.

The faithful didn't bother trying to drown out the "Go Canucks Go" chants from what I heard. Why would anyone deal with parking, the LRT or Rexall in general to go see this steaming, stinking mess of a hockey team?
I wonder how much turnover there's going to be in season ticket holders in the offseason? It'd be interesting to know.

I'm embarrassed for Katz.....the only thing worse than his Hubris is his stupidity. Maybe he can burp baby Kevin after tonights game. It was a moral victory after all. We hit a bunch of posts and if those went it, we would have won.
So this is what hope feels like?

I feel that's why there were so many Canuck fans tonight.
More season ticket holders are selling their tickets than they have in many years. So local BC transplants scoop em up.

We all thought this was going to be the game the Oilers turned the corner. Obviously, that hasn’t happened, and it hurts. It’s frustrating – for all of us.
I know this will almost certainly be the umpteenth consecutive game since we beat the Canucks. I hate that fact as much as anyone, but the reality is that this is only year four of the rebuild that started when we drafted Taylor Hall. The good news, if you can call it that, is that other teams that committed to fundamental rebuilds went through the same kind of droughts over the same kind of time frames, or longer. That doesn’t make it fun for anyone; it just means we have to stay the course.
Yes, we hoped and expected to be better this game – there’s no question about that. But we’ve also been more active than any team I can think of, trading for players like Ben Scrivens and Matt Hendricks. And we’re not done.
But I can also tell you that we are not going to sacrifice the future by doing something short-term. Those days are over and they’re not coming back. If we’re going to rebuild, we want to do it right and we only want to do it 2 or 3 more times. Maybe 4, max.
I hear a lot from fans about accountability, so let’s be clear. We are all accountable. That includes Nail, #64, and Yakupov.
I’ll tell you this, despite this game, we all wear our Oilers colours with the same pride now as we ever have, and as we will when we’re back on top. We hope you’ll do the same.

Eakins was part of the Canucks when the Moore-Bertuzzi incident happened, so it's a bit understandable he doesn't want to take part in retribution

Shoulda played some hockey early on and not let Kassian get a goal and assist. Pretty sure I saw Kassian saying multiple times that he got a goal when Gazdic was confronting him. Kassian did his part already. Maybe one year when we can actually compete against the Canucks and have them down in a game and make Kassian look like a useless boob like he usually does we will get that fight out of him.
Right now, all we are good for is making players feel good about themselves without having to work too hard at it. Except maybe in the last 1/6th or so of the game if the bounces didn't go their way to pad the lead enough. Look at the "5 on 5 close" stats for this game on extraskater.com if you want a laugh.

The problem I have with this is that the Oilers made such a fuss after the Kassian incident. They picked up Steve MacIntyre off waivers the next day and Gazdic a week afterwards and went on and on when they picked up both about how it was clear they needed a guy who could protect the troops.
If you're going to make it clear to the entire league that some dumb schmuck gets in your head with a stupid play that gets him a big suspension, then you have to follow through on that. Otherwise, the Oilers should have just said that they were glad the league addressed it, and that they expect having been suspended that he'll learn to control his stick in the future. As it is, they look ridiculous, because they clearly want to engage Kassian, but they're only going to do it in an extremely polite manner.
It is like Eakins forgets that they blathered on and on about responding to Kassian when the broken jaw happened.

Well, Spector is awful, so I kind of enjoyed seeing Eakins go after him.
What a mess. It probably isn't a good thing when the players and coaches start aggressively going after the media for questioning them, but at this point, I'm just happy to see a little emotion.

Anyone remember when Ference basically jumped Stempniak for 1/100th of what Kassian has been up to?
IMO, it was a weak and hypocritical answer by the poorly chosen captain of a historically horrible hockey team.

lol, I forgot about Ference punching the unwilling Stempniak. Ah well. Like the 4 years before the start of the rebuild that started after the year we tanked for Hall, you should just forget about that. If you dwell on those things you will be a part of the toxic atmosphere for the team that the fans have created that is stopping the Oilers from being successful.

Oilers Fun Fact: They've had more five-game losing streaks this year (5) than two-game win streaks (4).
success is coming.

Another ugly stat in a season of them:
The journal this morning said that the Oilers are now 2-19 in home games coming off of road trips of two or more games. That is beyond pathetic.

You have to realize something. Mr. Eakins is the first ever head coach to realize how hard travel is on a western team relative to those in the east. Especially those eastern team that play in a different league that may or may not travel by bus to densely clustered games. Don't worry, Mr. Eakins is working on a revolutionary process to fix the problem because innovation! Hint: the solution involves a stationary bike!

Oh god yes. Now I feel like I'm under pressure to be actively annoyed by the Oilers every second day, during the lock out no one bothered to care about hockey.
