According to James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail.

I'll try to find some better confirmation.

EDIT - Saw this on twitter (kind of obvious)

Why did Calgary host the Olympics?

So Calgarians could have a flame to look up to.

I've just an email from the Oilers confirming this appointment.

I guess he's spend the last 12 years as the head coach of the Swiss National Team.

Not exactly world beaters, but the Swiss have had some nice moments. He coached them in the 2010 Olympics where they gave a big challenge to contending teams. They almost upset the Canadians early on. That's likely where Tambo and Lowe saw him and got interested.

No offense to Steve Smith, but this move took a lot more thought than:

"Hey, I saw Steve Smith at the airport the other day, I wonder what he's up to..."

I smell a Tambo on this one.

2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Good signing. Took the Swiss from 15th to 7th in the world rankings.

Not an "Old Boys Club" hiring, that's for sure.

I remember watching the game vs USA - they lost 2-0 and one was an empty netter, they played a fantastic game with a lot of speed and grit - hopefully he remaines a coach with the Oil for a long time - love the appointment!

Nope, but definitely a "Hockey Canada" hiring. Even if it came from hating to play against him (which is good).

I heard an interview with him and Dustin Neilson today. He was talking about how he knows Renney from back in the 90's with the international tournaments.

I don't know anything about this guy, but I like that he's coming from a different perspective and probably has something to offer. This guy probably isn't going to be a drone.

I wonder why the title, "Associate Coach"? Will he be next in line for a head coach position? I'm not altogether excited about a non-NHL guy coming into that kind of position, but I supppose any cousin of a Nickelback member is welcome in E-town. rock

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.
