Have you ever in your life seen such a cluster ---- from a team pulling their goalie before finally being scored on? 3 guys playing net, giving the Wild essentially a 5 on 3 PP. Cherry picking left and right like morons on NHL 10 Online Team Play...

boom

Sam Gagner has to learn that he needs to pass that puck. During the goalie pull he had the puck about 4 times and when contested he coughed it up every time.

I missed most of the game due to the fact I thought it started at 7. Was the first two any better then the last.

First 10 minutes perhaps, and that's being generous.

So other than the two individual goals Nilsson scored, how many PP goals have we had since Hemsky went down?

I know many here rag on him, but without him on that PP it looks even more lost than usual. At least he's a threat when he has the puck on his stick.

Only found out after the game that the juniors were on at the same time. Wish I'd watched that one instead of that garbage.

Mmmm I could have sworn their were some geniuses on here pontificating about how much better our PP would be after two games without Hemsky. Who would have thought it would turn out like this?

Oh yeah. Anyone who has watched this team play.

and they have some better-than-decent role players but all in all?

That's a average team the Oilers lost to at best. An' how many Grade AAA scoring chances did the Oilers serve up? It's sad.

I wonder what Souray will say tonight? Today he basically told the media the coaches should back off the group when it comes to them abandoning the gameplan Quinn speaks of ad nauseum. I think they call it feedback? Or enough already... we're doin' the best we can, ol' men!

LoL.

Frankly neither can I. This is just pathetic.

Not much positive from tonight's game, other than they weren't blown out. Better than last game, but not an inspired effort and the goaltender fought the puck all night long.

Tencer with a telling stat: Horcoff -18 and O'Sullivan -19 on the season. Brutal. Terrible. Craptacular.

Grebs with another costly night. 5 games back for Grebs, -5, 5 Oilers losses. Not entirely coincidental statistics.

I don't see this season going anywhere but south, folks. That light at the end of the tunnel is a freakin' train. The media, including CHED at this moment, is talking in terms of how far this team can fall in the standings. That's pretty telling, when CHED is cutting to the chase.

The core isn't getting it done, so no point in keeping many of these core players around as this progresses, IMO. Play it out until the trade deadline approaches and start offloading some veteran contracts and possibly some assets the team is "long" on (ie. "offensive puck-moving d" icon_lol and tiny, weak, non-physical forwards).

I thought that under the new coaching regime the true deadwood on the team would be exposed, but I thought it would be moreso the prospects who had yet to pan. I never thought for a minute that many of the relative veterans on the hockey team (the guys with more than 2 years in the league) would collectively be so poor.

Fellow Oilfans, this is on the level of an expansion franchise this year (actually its worse than an expansion franchse because the wheels have been spinning for years, and there's no buzz around the team). I can't see this team being competitive any time soon unless the team can make some seriously beneficial changes in personnel. Lots of luck to management on that front.

Since the Pronger giveaway, the best move made on behalf of this organization came from Nylander's wife. Too bad she won't live here. She'd probably make a better GM than we have.

I really, really hope we get #2.

Can't stand Taylor Hall....he needs a big attitude adjustment and is not the type of player I want to see on the Oilers.

Last year in WSR I saw him skate up to the ref and point to himself to make sure he got credit for a goal he tipped in. And there's dozens more stories where that came from.

I can only trust that the Oilers see right through him.

Tyler Seguin is more along the lines of Matt Duchene. A complete, responsible player who plays the game the right way and will be a star. And he is smart, on and off the ice. Intelligence is important, especially in a high pressure market like Edmonton.

Usually I don't really believe we have a shot at these players but this is a total reality. We're going to get a shot at an elite prospect here.

Alright this latest loss isn't as apocalyptic/urgent as tonight's chosen tune, but...:

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

War, children, it's just a shot away

Yeah, yeah, depends on the perspective.....I hate the losing though!!!! Should be used to it as an Oilfan though.

But, yes, I guess if they're going to suck, they might as well not do it halfway.

The Good

- Nilsson is working with Stone and Stortini, trying to make plays with them
- Stone vs. Stoner, awesome

The Bad

- Gilbert on his very first shift
- JDD with the beer-league rebound on the first, that whole goal made me mad
- Few pinches I didn’t like (Grebeshkov with 2, Visnovsky with 1, Souray with 1, Gilbert with 1- there may have been more, I became disinterested)
- No one-time shooters on the ice tonight

The Ugly

- Two fake I got hit in the head plays by them that got calls
- O’Sullivan

I am content to take losses as a fan. The team was marginal at best going in this season, and has lost two of its best players and has generally had some hard luck so far this season. I don't like thinking about how frustrating this must be on the players and how it affects their confidence.

Being the Christmas season, one of my buddies here bought me an Oilers shirt. I wanted to so bad to wear it today, but it is not exactly a dress shirt. Anyways, it made me realize how much I love the Oilers, and how proud I am, even now, of being a fan of this team.

This team is getting a top 5 pick at worst.

Hopefully MPS is the real deal and I'd love to see Cogs get dealt for a young shut down defenseman.

Everybody on the current roster except Penner, Brule, Stone, Stortini and Smid should be actively shopped and turned into more Gilbert Brule. Or draft picks.

I am excluding Gagner (Craig Janney) from the keeper list because you can see where he's going to top out. Should have drafted Voracek, but I digress.

Can you see Gagner lifting the cup over his head? Neither can I.

Cogs has to go while he still has a name and the lustre of being a 1st rd. pick.

Hemsky can go too, for all I care. I love the guy but we're garbage with him and garbage without him. He can stay if he's the 2nd best winger on the first line but if he's supposed to be our top guy, then see you later.

We need players that can WIN. Say what you want about the "core", and by that I mean Moreau, Staios, Pisani, etc. They're way past it and a shadow of what they were, but when they were players, they were guys you could go to war with. Real, solid, NHLers. Character guys.

The only guys on the team I can see that have that type of meddle are Stone and Stortini. Unfortunately they're both short on talent but they can play on my fourth line any day of the week. Brodziak had it too and Glencross had it in spades. FIND THESE GUYS.

Of course, the first thing this team needs to do is get lucky with a tender like the Flames did with Kipper. An elite goalie would go a long way and give us a starting point for building this thing. We'll see if JD develops into that but I'm not holding my breath. I've already held it for 7 years on JD and 5 years on DD and we all saw what "young" Dubnyk did in his first start.

This team sucks and I'm sick of spending time, money and effort on a lame-duck product that is ALWAYS mediocre. I'm glad I don't live in Edmonton or the money for tickets would really be a sticking point.

I sympathize with the season ticket holders.

If the Oilers don't end top with a top 3 pick, this season will be a total loss.

Gags needs to simplify his game, once he gets that, he'll start being more effective.

Gags needs to GTF off the ice sometimes and not take those 20 extra useless seconds on his shift! Geez that guy overstays his time on the ice!

It's the times he triesto beat three guys in the zone or gets physically pushed around like a ragdoll that bug me. He'll be good, but it's the idea he'll be 1C that makes me scratch my head.

Illegitimi non carborundum.

Pravda-based propoganda-fest Master Samwise somehow backs off the opponents thru fear and the ability to make someone look bad. Only thru increased strength and experience, which inevitably will come like Santy Claus on Thursday night, then will we see the real Gagner emerge.

I'm here to tell you kind peoples it ain't happenin'.

What you see is what you get.

Wonder when Shawn Horcoff will be called out for his epic -18 on the season?

Still waiting.

But he's our best defensive player and Mac T would pick him for Team Canada as the best forward to kill a 5-3

Read the dailies? This was in the pregame yesterday:

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sports/hockey/edmonton-oilers /Horcoff+searches+game/2373689/story.html

Horcoff only has 16 points and is minus-16. Both numbers sting, a lot. Almost 200 players (197) have more points. He is in the bottom 10 in plus/minus.

The Oilers need Horcoff to retrieve his A or at least B-plus game to get them out of their deep, dark hole. He's too good to be pedestrian[.]

Quinn is still trying to digest what the assistant captain can offer.

People are noticing. Finally.

Then I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.

Its still capped off with this though.

Is he? Really? You would think he was a proven elite player who was just having one bad year out of many in the league.

Here is a news flash. His good year was the flash in the pan, not the reverse. He is not to good to be pedestrian. He is, in fact, pedestrian at his best.

If anything you could say "he is too pedestrian to be this horrible". That would actually be a true statement.
