Thanks Jarome.

Souray apparently hasn't been coming to the rink at all yet... I mean, with mild concussions, docs recommend no activity until a week symptom-free... I hope he's not still symptomatic.

Another thing I was thinking about... we've all seen what a dominant fighter Souray is when he's mad. It's not a great thing if he always fights, but the ocasional morale boost is called for. If this concussion changes either his willingness or his ability to get his nose dirty when he does finally return, then Iginla's "mistake" has hurt this team big-time.

I think they indicated it'd be a couple weeks early on. He was injured on the 8th, today is the 17th, so he could be symptom free today, but just not for a week yet. I doubt it will affect his style of play when he does return.

I don't know, after watching Boogard deliberately attempt to injure Sully last night, I'm thinking its worth a 5 game suspension to exact some retribution on some of these guys who either deliberately or by "mistake" injure or attempt to injure Oiler players. Old-time hockey.

Did he try something? I wasn't listening to the game. I was surprised we didn't play Mac.

He went for a hit on POS, half missing and only catching sullys leg. Thing is it was after we made it 5-2 though.

I don't want to come across as unpatriotic here, but good. I want everyone on the Oilers to be nice a rested for the playoff push and the playoffs. Which they are making.

Not to mention that it "just happened" to be against POS. The same guy who basically embarassed and exposed Boogard on the second Oiler goal.

Doesn't get any more obvious than that.

This is the reason we have Macintyre on the roster isnt it? I dont care what anyone says. The guy needs to dress for divisional games. Play him 2 min a night for all I care, but have him sitting at the end of the bench just in case.

In a case like this though, it doesn't necessarily take a MacIntyre....it takes a guy haywire enough to do something dirty enough to injure either the perp....Boogard, or one of THEIR best players. Think of Dave Brown, for example....he would have been exactly the man for the situation. Semenko would have, too.

If MacIntyre was in the lineup, Boogard would have likely still kneed Sully, but MacIntyre would have made a beeline for him and done something bad to him when he exited the box, or done something bad to one of his teammates while he was in the box....one or the other. That is....if Quinn had taken the hammer and broken the glass (which he would have).......

Positive

We are without our best player and we are doing alright.

Negative

We look thin without him, soon a breakdown may occur.

Someone on another thread alluded to the possibility that he may have some kind of ACL issue which is keeping him off of the ice. That blows if it's true.

Stauffer was talking in terms of weeks for Souray today. Didn't hear anything about knee. Either way, if this is true, it's not good.

Peckham has been back 5 games on the farm. As soon as he's back to par, he needs to be called up, because 4 of 6 on the current back end are soooooooft.

Some more news:

Defenceman Sheldon Souray still hasn't fully recovered from the concussion he suffered when spilled into the boards by Jarome Iginla two weeks ago but did say he was "feeling better" when he left the rink on Thursday after taking some treatment. He's not close to being ready to skate, however...

Quinn says Souray has digressed. He woke up this morning, had a headache, and went back to bed. Still a ways away to say the least.

Maybe he just has a headache because he also now has the flu.

A few players on the team already have the flu, but I regress...

Back to the thread...

Does anyone have an update on Souray? Anyone seen him around town buying Advil, or is he simply getting up, getting dizzy, throwing up and going back to bed?

Looking for some good news / progress here - this team is painful to watch without his minutes out there.

All I've heard is maybe December. Stauffer said it again today. How much of this is speculation is speculative within itself.

December likely doesn't help you much. Especially when it contains 31 days.

Yikes.

As you say many days in December.

Dec 1 would be good - greatly impacts another month worth of points.

Dec 31st on the other hand - that is going hurt our playoff chance...

Good news indeed.
I recollect hearing in the context of an update on Staios that the general rule was that the player had to be concussion symptom free for at least a week before they were able to return to the ice.

Yikes -- I can't think of a more serious injury.
The Oil need Souray back badly -- but he should be given all of the time that he needs plus a week or two, especially if he has the same symptoms you had.
It's just a game after all.

Edit -- To clarify -- I'm not mocking your injury -- I've had concussions but nothing that severe -- good example as to the the difficulties caused by concussions, just caught me off guard.

No no, I would expect to be made fun of for that!

I was doing my best to be polte about it. I know there have been a couple of other posters on here who have mentioned bad concussions. I am sure they would agree that the symptoms can be very debilitating.

A very little bit of more news from the Sun:

http://www.edmontonsun.com/sports/myoilers/2009/11/05/116420 16-sun.html

"Apparently they did a test the other day and I had heard he's scheduled to skate. Not with us, by himself, but that's a first step.

"The test he did three or four days ago, apparently the numbers are more near normal, or at normal, so we're at the point where he can start workouts."

Very doubtful he goes after Iginla when we play them again with him in the lineup.

Latest news from Brownlee -- thanks for asking the question Regulator. Far too enough I read things and fail to post back here.

Tuesday from Robin Brownlee: While Stauffer has suggested Souray might be eight or nine days away from returning from a concussion, which would take him past the end of the trip, I have a sneaking suspicion he'll play in Atlanta.

From Jason Gregor today: "Sheldon Souray is skating and is getting closer, but still no set timetable on his return."
