Toris wrote on Tue, 18 December 2007 09:21 | Being a game over .500 would be great, but with a win tonight we could be in a playoff spot for the first time in a long time. Big big game tonight boys.

But aren't we 17-18 if we win tonight?
Wait...wait...
Anyone here taking the over/under on another OT/SO here?
Happy to announce a permanent Oilfan vacation.

I think this could be a good game for the Oil. The top two lines have been doing their thing since Pisani came back. I hope Reasoner and Brodz can get into the grove they were in a few games back (by a few I mean about 10 - 12). The team seems positive lately and if all lines get their jobs done there is no reason we can't get the ever rear regulation win. I'm saying 4-1 Oil if Macgough keeps his snotty nose out of it.
Also, if we can add to the recent winning ways we can finally be done with the "are we really at .500" argument. Ha ha.

Great we get Mr. McGough in a Stars vs Oilers game in December again great!!! Lets just hope the guy don't blow any hand pass calls that ruin a great game this time around.
Other then that I think the Oilers will play well tonight. I suspect a win in regulation for the home side. I bet Souray scores Stoll, Cogs have great games and the top 2 lines continue playing well.
We need these wins the division is tough with every one playing well. We need to keep up with the pack and win will put us in a good spot to do that...

Damnit. I was stoked to see Garon play. Especially after Roli got lit up in Dallas a week ago.
Here's another question though. Does Tarny draw in? I'm guessing he does, just so that he gets a game in to get his legs back.
Who does he take out though?
Pitkanen Souray
Gilbert Staios
Smid Grebeshkov
I'm thinking probably Grebeshkov...possibly Smid.

Just had a quick look at the standings but with an Oilers win, every team in the North West Division would be in a playoff position. Is this still the toughest division in the league?
Still jaded but we've got McDavid

If the Oilers win, and Calgary beats Columbus and San Jose beats Anaheim, then we'll be in 8th.
Toughest division? Seems like there's a lot of parity, for sure, but I think it's a division full of slightly above average teams, no spectacular teams.

It would be nice to see the Oilers sitting in a playoff spot, even if it’s for a day. It’s so tight and the Oilers have played more games then most of the teams that it surrounds in the playoffs. So I’m not comfy that the Oilers are a playoff team yet, or even going to give a good run. Oh yeah, and they still need to win a couple more after tonight to be above 0.500 when you’re counting OTL as a loss. If you don’t count shoot-out wins, well then you got a very long way to go.

Yes, if teams x, y, z win tonight, we'll be in a playoff position. PLUS, if teams a, b, c lose their games in hand, we'll remain in a playoff spot, but from a position of strength and controlling one's destiny, not a weak one where you're hoping everybody else loses against extra-divisional/conference opponents.
And yes OGM, a win tonight does not mean .500 from a traditional sense

MacT on the pregame when asked about whether or not Tarnstrom will be in the lineup...his response:
"We'll see Dick Shortly"
To which the reporters erupted and MacT said oops.

What the hell time is this game at?
I've heard 5:30 (pst) from the local paper, 6:00 (pst) from my tv and my centre ice calendar, and 7:30 (mst) from OilFans and the Oilers website.
I'm guessing the latter is correct, but anybody know for sure? I'm recording it to watch later and don't want to miss any.

Mine too...
It's so SNET-W can have a double-header. Flames @ Columbus and then Dallas @ Edmonton.

Thanks for clearing that up...
It's just weird. I open the paper this morning and it says 5:30. I thought that was a weird start time (6:30 Edmonton time), so I came home and checked my calendar and it said 6:00 (BC time). So, I figured I'd double-check online and it says 7:30!
Oh well. Thanks for the info. Tickets don't lie.

Is that a romance explosion, a la Borat, or more of a 'rhea type thing?

4-2 Oilers win. This is a huge game to get over .500. I want to see Souray bomb one in the net today. We better win this one. I can just remember the days of below .500
