... in San Jose. Was the play of the Oilers.
It was only one game so I won't sweat it, but I was a little worried that if the Oilers actually had a goalie the team in front of him would hang him out to dry.
The team did that tonight.

It's not often you allow 5 goals, and not one of them is the goalies fault. Roloson was hung out to dry.

And now time for tonight's Oiler 3 star selection:
First Star:
Second Star:
Third Star: Radek Dvorak
And no, the first two aren't typo's.
Random thoughts:
- My world for a Brendan Witt. This team needs a defensive D-man, who understands the terms body positioning, shot lanes, and triangulation.
- I honestly & truly feel badly for Rollie. He had a half a prayer on one of the goals, but outside of that, it was a goddamn firing range back there.
- Samsonov can play with Dvorak & Stoll. Torres looked as expendable as ever - if it wasn't for perhaps the worst bounce in the NHL, you'd never know if he dressed.
- With any luck, Matt Greene's bruise cleans up in a hurry, as I'd love to see the look on MAB's face when he gets told he is a healthy scratch.
- If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I'd have never known if Peca had dressed for the game, either.
- MacT gets outcoached again. Most won't see this - but MAB wore their over-sized line all night & its no co-incidence they were VERY sucessful.
- This team does alot of little things poorly & its costs them games. Blowing the zone early repeatedly, not getting the puck deep in the offensive zone on rushes, not picking up secondary men in their own zone on rushes, & lacksidasical play on the PP...it all adds up to a lack of concentration & intensity.
Happy to announce a permanent Oilfan vacation.

It was pretty obvious to me just from the radio. Keep in mind, it's hard to hide a dman on the road. If this game was in Edmonton, I doubt MacT would've allowed that to happen with the last change. On top of this, I'm sure MacT/Huddy were a little too focused on trying to play cat and mouse with Pronger and Thornton.
I've been saying this for awhile now (mostly with respect to trade threads), but MAB is trouble one on one against big players and that SJS line is king-sized. It's too bad they couldn't use Greene tonight but the Oilers will have to change their lineup to match the opposition in the future. MAB can play against Nashville for example, but Greene needs the Sharks assignment.
The word is yamaha. I felt pretty yamaha.

Glad you picked up on it, Riv.
Remember - its not hard to hide a D-man on the road if he is on the bench. He should've seen PP minutes & the odd match-up change. If he only got 10-12 minutes, so be it - he was a liability all f*cking night.
The assignment things are bang on, but still - MAB needs a concrete lesson. The sooner Greene is ready, the sooner MAB should be in the press box to learn it.

Never paid my money, so I can only ask questions, but is it a problem that Torres was almost invisible? He was +2 so he must have been visible to the Sharks.
Looking at the box score, its a 2-2 game going into the third and in 20 minutes our first line gives up 3 goals against?
Statistically, that sure looks like the game story.

Nah. The story of the game is that the D as a whole drank a big jug of dumbass. Seriously, I can't imagine them collectively playing any worse. You're right, the 1st line was craptacular, but they couldn't hold a candle to the D.

Pfftt..you're out to lunch man. An NHL goalie has to be able to stop breakaways, numerous 2 on 1s and he most certainly is expected to stop 3 on 1s. AND I should hope that at a minimum, our goalies stop 3 shots in a row before our D needs to step in - there's no need for a goalie who can't stop 3 point blank shots in a row.
Man, your expectations are pretty damned low if you don't think he was to blame on every single one of those goals.

Too bad for Roloson.
Bergeron sucked bad in his 15 minutes. Hemsky had very little jump tonight.
Sharks were a tough team to play tonight, but it coulda been closer without the miscues. The first line was pretty useless tonight.

Dear MacT,
Bag skate these guys until their legs fall off. They looked like a team that shouldn't be anywhere near playoff contention. If this was Detroit it would have been 9-2.
Rolli didn't look bad but my god not a lick of support. Welcome to the team!
#1 line did not exist.
D-well eveyone sucked bigtime
No flow, no chemistry, bad passing, just horrid.
Guess we only have the Ducks by 1pt now. WAY TO GO!

So we spend months outplaying the other teams, getting more shots on them then they do on us, playing good defensively, and getting let down by our goalies.
So we bring in a goalie, and play terribly, get out worked offensively and defensively, and generally hang the guy out to dry.
Awesome.

Well, every team in the divison gained ground on the Oilers tonight.
I hope they realize they do not want to finish in the 7-8 spot. Just making it isn't good enough anymore. I'm hoping for a 5th place finish, but this team can't seem to get out of 8th.
2 out of the next 3 games in Minnesota, who we have problems against. As much as Roloson will want to beat his old team, I'm sure Fernandez and his old team will be up for playing against him.

My 2 cents....
The Good - D-vo was phenomenal, anything that happened that was good tonight, happened because of him....Despite the score Rolly was as advertised, very solid all night, but was left for dead by his D all night long....hell, even the vultures weren't afraid of being swept away by the D....
The Bad - Where to start with that load of suck......my theory goes like this, this D has struggled all year with having to panic because of the goalie....I think that tonight they felt they finally could relax and completely blew their load getting in on the play wayyyyyyyy too much, causing chance after chance after chance odd man going the other way....I think and I hope this will even itself out in short order....
The Ugly - Okay Mac-T.....NO MORE 47 and 24 together, nice try, not working....bad bad bad.....put 47 back with 44 who can cover up his mistakes....the other 4 can mix and match, but those two should never ever ever be with eachother again...okay, that clear? Good....

Sometimes when I watch Torres I can't believe he has 21 goals. Yes he has 21 goals, but seems to do very little else any good. He looks like a 4th liner too often.
He's very quick with the puck in front of the net..........................
