while that's probably faster than Lucic ever moved in Edmonton, it's a forward covering the blue line and Lucic has plenty of momentum before Foegele gets turned around. A player with actual speed blows by and gets a scoring chance, instead of a quick cuddle on the ice.

All I'm saying is Ethan Bear never would have let Lucic tackle him like that icon_wink

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Bear lost in the Foeg is my vote for best Oilyfans fantasy hockey team name.

Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

It’s pretty darn flavourful

Stalock 0.786 tonight. Smith a much better 0.857. Feel better about this trade now.

Unrelated: Nashville passed the Oilers in the standings last night.

Vancouver is only 2 pts behind..

Oilers are not making the playoffs...

Lots of people said that in 2006 too...it's way tighter than it should be, but it's not a done deal yet. It will help when we get out of this stretch of bad injury luck, and if we never play Smith again.

Look, I wanna be positive. I cheer for wins. I want this team to succeed and I wanna see my favourite hockey team win some silverware. Heck, I’m Mr Must Win!

But Holland, Mr Perpetual Patience, will do nothing to help this team where they have shortcomings. He’s not bringing in a goalie, he’s not bringing in an impact dman. He has verbally stated his unwilling to part with the necessary pieces to truly be a ‘win now’ team.

On the injury front, Josh Archibald was a full participant at practice 😏

Join the dark side 'gasm.

The fact that Lucic would look pretty dang good in the Oilers middle 6 right now... which I can’t believe I just said... all but proves the hate is flowing through me

You just can't ignore the price point though, and how Lucic looked most of the time in Edmonton and much of his time in Calgary. There are zero regrets from my perspective.

The trade opened up a lot of possibilities. Neal had no NMC which would have allowed lots of trade opportunities with a creative GM, and was a cheaper buyout.

Unfortunately, we made almost no use of the advantages the trade provided. Some bad luck with injuries really derailed things too, although I think by the time he was injured we were starting to think he was going to be a key cog on the team because of a good run, rather than a guy we needed to try to get rid of ASAP if the opportunity presented itself. So here we are and it wouldn't have made much of a dif if we just kept Lucic.

Thankfully it's the only time that has ever happened, not making the most of opportunities...

You all remember Cap Space from 2017-2018? We picked him up for Eberle and a Pouliot buyout. Difference make that kid. And how about Cap Space Jr from this past off-season? He was huge and was going to plug huge org holes like 3C and 1G...

Caleb Jones is on fire currently too for Chicago. Getting plenty of ice time, putting up some points and by all accounts playing well.

It's still interesting to see how the Oilers approached that week last year.

- Began talking to Chicago about Duncan Keith, who Chicago was desperate to dump and who had asked for a trade, giving the Blackhawks only two options as to where - Edmonton and Vancouver (where he's hated).
- The Oilers leak that Chicago had asked for a 1st and Ethan Bear and that we feel that's too rich of a price. I think this leak is as much market sounding (and softening) as it is any kind of negotiating technique, and the ask just shows how little Bowman thinks of Ken Holland. He just ignores all his weakness in negotiating position and takes as hard an opening stance as he can. It's so aggressive it would have had a real risk of completely ending the discussions, except that he's dealing with a guy who LOVES veteran defenceman, and has made a big effort to sign a lot of them in their late 30s over the years.
- The Oilers almost immediately are willing to send Jones and a conditional pick (somehow oblivious to the fact that the condition ties their hands to make other deals with non-1st round picks this year) but ask for Chicago to take on a large contract, or to carry salary. Bowman flatly refuses as if the Oilers are making a ridiculous ask and holds firm.
- Holland caves.

Then, because he didn't trade Bear for Keith, and because he somehow was completely blindsided by Larsson's desire to leave a team with two of the best players in the world for an expansion team where he can just lose constantly all year, Holland decides we still didn't need Bear. Somehow, losing one RHD was enough to convince us we could afford to lose another, and we deal Bear for a 3rd line winger. Still hilarious for a team that made such a big deal of acquiring a RHD that they actually thought it was worth trading their second best player at the time for a shutdown guy, but then a couple years later trade a RHD who can play in all situations for a grind guy.

Annnnnd now, according to Ryan Rishaug, the wishlist for Ken Holland for the trade deadline is a RHD. Not sure what that looks like for the team if they add an extra guy there - they wouldn't sideline Bouchard again, would they!? And if that's indeed our acquisition, then you have to wonder if the ownership is paying any attention. This GM committed long-term to not one but TWO RHD this summer, so adding another at the trade deadline would seem to be admitting a large failure, would it not?

Hmm... it’s too bad they traded Stalock, Rodrigue apparently not an option.
