Gator21 wrote on Tue, 25 June 2019 19:45 | Once again Oilers get hosed schedule wise. Not enough HNIC games...you think the league would want to feature it's best player like basketball does. Why do we always get the lamest matchup on Hockey Day in Canada? Versus Nashville at the same time as MTL/TOR At least it's not the noon game like last year.
Why are we playing at 2pm at home vs FLA in Oct and vs DAL in Nov and 1pm vs AZ in January? Have to cater to Eastern audiences with two HNIC games at 5pm at home versus TO/MTL back to back weeks in December. Don't play CGY until Dec. 27th

Not sure what the big problem with 3 afternoon games is. God forbid you could actually take your kid to the game and be home on good time. 2 of the 3 5PM games are MTL and TOR, so ya, to accommodate eastern Canada. Again, not a huge deal.
Its clear the Oilers weren't a network priority, but then again, have they ever been?

I think the fact the Oilers haven't been a relevant team in over a decade is a factor in this.
Oilers still play 82 games and are still broadcast on usual networks that reach the home market. Just they don't get as much national features.
And it stings but Toronto and Montreal just have a bigger nation wide audience.
My only gripe is Ottawa (19 games) probably getting way too many games based on their state of affairs relative to everyone else. Winnipeg actually having a decent run should get more than Calgary and Vancouver.
Toronto 24
Montreal 22
Ottawa 19
Vancouver 16
Calgary 15
Winnipeg 12
Edmonton 11
