Nope. They missed the window. Any Draisaitl trade now will be a panic trade driven by results or contracts and therefore return pennies on the dollar. I'd rather they roll the dice for the next two seasons, flawed as they are, rather than panic.

Wow, crazy. I had no idea the window to make moves like that was so small. Teams literally have a mere couple of weeks to decide the fate of their entire franchise for years to come. I guess they are screwed now.
You ever think of applying to the Oilers for an advisory job? Maybe Jackson will hire you to be his right hand. That's assuming you think he shouldn't be fired as well?
Should they start shopping McDavid right now or wait until the offseason? He'd have 2 years left so surely someone would take him.

Honestly, the Oilers don't pay well enough for people like me.
But yes, the windows are that tight to make decisions. There are very few points in the year where money, assets, time, and attention are all available to find good value. Especially in a zero sum situation like NHL hockey. No one is out there waiting to give the Oilers a favor when they're trying to win a cup. They are stuck with what they have now, hoping for the best. Maybe they can get creative and load up at the deadline, but that feels like some slim hope.
