I think it's good that the Oilers are underdogs going into this. Woukd be more even if LD had 2 good legs. Oilers need penalty calls I think as part of a winning formula.
If somehow the Oilers can get up in this series, I think it sows seeds of anxiety in some of the flames, because their city, their fans and their players have a complex. Could be a factor.

I can't speak for all of Oilers Nation, but I have a complex too. Winning game one would alleviate so much stress from my world. Securing the split in Calgary would be momentous.
I would hope our players would also put the peddle down with a game one win and will their way to a pair of Saddle Dome victories.

Yeah, I can get pretty philosophical about this as an old(er) bastard. I think the angst on the Oilers fan side depends on age. I saw each and every one of those times when it was a bloody struggle but Calgary most of the time ended up being our submissive bicth, and we went on to beat everyone in the way more times than not. Anyone probably under the age of 35 probably doesn't remember the last BOA in the playoffs and our subsequent Cup. So I get that sentiment from a big part of Oiler fandom. If you're not old enough, you should have seen how fragile flames fans were back then, it's probably a blessing there was no social media then.
All that's left of the old era are the relics still employed by the owner (Lowe) and those banners. I've come to the ability to make peace with outcomes in the McDavid era and the ~ 5 years previous when Hall arrived. The disappointment I feel a lot of the time is real, but if there's that and a flash of anger, it's fleeting. I've been able to shed all of this pretty quickly and just remove myself in a way while still staying in touch if it's too rough, if that makes sense. I'll come on Oilfans or wherever and piss and moan a bit, but move on.
Totally want this to end in blowout victories for the Oilers in the 1st 4 games, not just for the Oilers, but to see what that means down south. The fact that logically, Calgary is the favorite, means that they bear most of the pressure, and I can see individuals on that team folding under that pressure. Other than the clincher, this game is the most important, and the 2nd not that far behind. The Oilers either overcome the challenges, or they don't. All that's on the line for me as a fan so far is a 18 holes of golf & cart for a bet.

The fragile nature of Flames fans is and was 100% true. I've been to a few games at the Saddledome when the 3-2 lead in the third made the fear in the building palpable. The whole place would be pulsating with nervous energy. You could taste it. Sadly, this is true in Edmonton now. We've forgotten that winning is our right, as ordained by God. The last 24 years of ineptitude have damaged us to the point where we sully ourselves by behaving like Flames (and Canucks) fans. Imagine being afraid of losing, blaming the refs, or thinking a big game will be anything but a coronation of greatness.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.
