He is still good for an awful goal against, per game, because he either misplays the puck or just plainly doesn't make an easy save. He also is making a pile of really good saves per game on a team that leakes good chances against.
Smith, not so much...
As much as the 3 game road trip section against top teams was positive in that the team played well, they didn't come out with a lot of points.
This stretch against worse teams is just as important. You can't keep giving up the gimme points and expecting to stay in the playoff race.

Those awful goals against are the difference in a tight league, like last game. 5-6 points on this trip was probably the most I hoped for. As you said, they played better against the better teams, but didn't play nearly as well against the lesser teams....they regressed to the same mistakes you see from a team with 2 superstars that still has incompetence below them. Honestly, unless this team completely buys in and plays the way they have to game in and game out going forward, they don't even appear in the playoffs. They need to do so, start playing like it's the playoffs already and start a run tonight. Play other teams tight defensively, support the D zone, quit frigging flying the zone constantly, no gifts, and their game breakers that other teams don't possess can be the difference. Systemic buy in on par with the 2006 run, that's the way of every good team, every champion. That's the ONLY path for the Oilers.
