Slim Jim Phantom Call wrote on Sun, 03 October 2021 13:21 | Just in from Spec, Arch is done for the foreseeable future. Had Covid in the summer and now has heart issues. Frees up his $1.5m cap hit.

Sigh.........
1.5M is good at least
|
I liked him, but good riddance. I wish him good health and a speedy recovery, but he can find a new team as far as I’m concerned.
|
I wonder if getting vaccinated was a good idea? Hmmm.....
Oh well, his career might be over but at least he didn't have to go against his principals.
|
Still think this is fake. League and team get an “athletes can get sick so get vaxxed” angle, while the player gets paid and doesn’t have to get vaxxed and the PA can sit out the dispute.
If he’s truly sick, I hope he can live a healthy life after hockey.
|
Yeah I think it's fake too. If he got COVID in the summer, then why not share this information when first announcing that Archibald is the unvaccinated Oiler a week ago.
|
This would be the most embarrassing way for Archie to fake though wouldn't it? Lots of ways to be vague and sit out. Heart inflammation is not something you could get away with faking with a 3rd party check if the league wanted to call your bluff.
The intensity of training to get in game shape may have tipped him over an edge he was near all summer. Athletes that train through COVID have been shown to have a much higher chance of developing a vascular issue. Since near the start docs have been getting athletes to do nothing until they are over COVID. But, people that think it's no big deal I'm sure are much more likely to just keep on powering through it, like many college athletes did last year messing themselves up.
|
I have a small voice in my head saying "cover up! cover up!"
But I'm more inclined to believe the simple answer that he did get COVID, mostly recovered, but then the higher level intensity at training camp along with Doctors more closely monitoring performance showed the problem. Luckily before he resumed a regular pro level intense season and possibly made things worse.
I know someone work wise that caught COVID a year ago, and they are still dealing with the issues. His Doctor basically explained that it hit his system with the equivalent force of a heart attack. And those take 6 months, a year or more to recover from. And that's just recovering, not pro level athlete.
My son is also dealing with a heart issue (non covid) and the reality is the Doctors just look at you and shrug their shoulders until they actually catch an episode of the problem on an ECG with hard data to backup the symptoms.
Illegitimi non carborundum.
