This is getting weird.

Clearly the team feels they don't have enough help for McDavid in that situation - although I'm not sure why. Puljujarvi's been good up there, and McDavid can create on his own.

I am a little worried we're going to sell the farm to bring in a LW for the top six. Most years, I'd be all for that, but with goaltending such a question mark, I worry we could throw away a good prospect or top pick and end up with just a 6 or 7 game series for the effort when goaltending implodes.

Team was great last year with McDavid playing with Ennis and Archibald hehe. I think we can do a little better than that this year if we put DRY together.

But who knows, maybe McDavid is sick of carrying plugs and it's a no go. Or Tippett is being like McLellan and the media asked him too much about trying it so it's now a blacklisted option.

Looking forward to seeing Evan Bouchard playing wing with Nuge eventually! Or yeah, we toss the 1st and prospects for Hall.

They’re not doing anything with goaltending till the offseason. I think it’s time we drop the dream. It’s not happening (barring broken neck from Schmiddy before the TD, and even then it won’t happen).

I know Adam will hate this. But Jones, who’s behind Nurse, Laggy, and Russell (who are all under contract next year) while there’s Broberg and Sammy coming, is a trade chip that should be used if able to land a winger to play with Drai or McDavid. There’s so much uncertainty with the right side, expiring deals and whatnot, I don’t move a RHD.

It makes so much sense for Jones to be that trade chip.

It's foolish to trade someone in the lineup when you can trade someone who's not in the lineup. Jones may or may not have a long term career in Edmonton, but moving him ahead of the playoffs to a non-playoff team makes little sense. His value is at an all-time low currently because the Oilers he's off his rookie deal, and we have been using him as a 6/7/8 guy. The only thing he has going for him is that he's cheap. We can get more for Samorukov now than we likely can for Jones now - so no one is giving us a top six winger for him.

The goaltending isn't going to be fixed. Given that, I don't know that it makes a lot of sense to make a big bet for a couple of assets at the trade deadline this year. The management can feel that they've got playoffs for Connor and Leon (although it is more that Connor and Leon got playoffs for the management), so they may see that as mission accomplished.

I think it's a waste of any season now where we aren't Cup contenders, but the chances that Smith or Koskinen can carry this team deep in to the post-season aren't good, so maybe keep your powder dry and swing for the fences in the summer? I think the team is once again fooling themselves if they think the goalie box checked...similar to how they fooled themselves previously with Ben Scrivens, Mikko Koskinen, etc. over similar hot streaks.

I don't disagree with you about our G, but Smith CAN sometimes be effective, and if we are able to get someone like Hall for spare parts, I say do it. He would instantly transform that 2nd line, if not the whole forward corps.

Would you give up a 1st round pick and Samorukov or Broberg for him though?

I just don't like the odds of Smith battling his way through four playoff rounds.
