I’d like to blame just goaltending, but scoring 1 goal in 3 games with McDavid and Draisaitl? Beyond embarrassing.

Toronto is the better, deeper team at the moment, but the Oilers got flat-out outcoached. With home ice advantage, Tippett never found a way to get the McDavid away from the blanket the Leafs through over him. He never really adjusted to anything the Leafs were doing. The team started all the games pretty well on offence, and when the goaltending inevitably let them down, the team didn't have a lot of answers for it. The coach should be answering for that.

I’m not letting the coaching off the hook- I do think there is a disconnect developing, but other than a shift or two did anyone really notice Connor played? Captain has to lead the team. He looked disinterested and in turn everyone else did as well.
I don’t recall even seeing a hit from someone not named Smith or Chiasson

The Leafs had a game plan focused on stopping McDavid. We didn't try to get away from their match-ups at all, and then gave him weaker linemates in this last game - and weaker yet as the game proceeded.
I'm willing to give McDavid the benefit of the doubt - he's carried this team enough that I think he deserves that. I don't think McDavid was disinterested, I just don't think he was given any room and he was kept frustrated as a result.
If that is happening, then either his linemates have to do something - if they're checking 97 tightly, then they likely have a gap somewhere else that could be exploited - or the coach needs to do something to break the trap. With last change, the opportunity was there for Tippett to change the match-up but he never really attempted to do that.
I am concerned about the lack of adjustments from Tippett. He doesn't seem to be dissecting what the other team is doing and then trying to adjust - his preference seems to be stick with his system and hope it's enough to win. And if it isn't? Just keep trying it!
