His forecheck this year has been awesome, so we have to balance out the benefit of having the longer stick in that respect. Shortening the length will change his range, his balance and his natural instincts. It might help his release on close-in shots in the O zone though, for sure. Having switched sticks in the beer league move from D to LW, I whiffed constantly for half the season. And judging by our levels of patience here at Oilfans, any negative plays the kid makes will get his future "discussed".

What stood out to me was: "The Oilers netminder has faced 420 shots, which isn't as groovy as it sounds when you realize that it's over 100 shots more than the league's second-busiest goalie."
Getting shelled every night might not be the way to build up a goalie's confidence.
