I can't say I disagree with you at all. I think there is a player in Bouchard. His puck moving alone is something the Oilers need. Tippett seemed OK last year to put Bear in and play him a ton. I wonder if the struggles of Jones who I admit I thought he would come in like Bear did and not be spectacular just solid, but he's been extremely shaky plus just how freaking bad a guy who you'd think would be reliable in Larsson, makes him gun shy to put in Bouchard who's calling card isn't defense. Hard to say.
I appreciate the slow play with Bouchard to let him take his time developing but in my opinion, it's time to see what you got. I don't see how Bouchard could be much worse defensively that Larsson has been and you might get an actual positive play out of Bouchard.

I don't think Jones has been bad at all since coming back in to the lineup. Shaky in the first few games for sure, but I think he's been relatively good since then, and that even Larsson has been a bit better playing with him (other than the ridiculously bad play on the Tkachuk goal the other night when he just slid himself out of the way).
It is odd that we were willing to throw in an ECHL-calibre goaltender against Ottawa, but against the same team, we're less inclined to give a regular shift to a young defenceman who we spent a high first round pick on, and who was stellar for our pathetic AHL team last year.

I'd like to see Jones with a different partner. Larsson is supposed to be the security blanket for a young dman but he's been the opposite. I have to think Larsson's erratic play has to impact Jones.
This is a little off topic for the game tonight but unless Larsson is able to find his game big time, for me at least he's making the decision on if you consider bringing him back or not pretty easy. 1/5 of the season is gone and looks like it's his last as an Oiler in my opinion. He looks lost and overmatched a lot of nights and some of his decision making I find shocking and not something I would expect from a dman of his experience.
