Yeah, well, if the Oil actually had a competent D corps, Koski wouldn't be forced into being a clutch goalie. We all knew what he was going into the season, so the team had to improve the pairings in front of him but didn't.

As I mentioned a few days ago, Steve Valiquette was on the radio recently saying something like Koskinen gave up the most goals in the league last year when tied in the third period. Basically, he never comes up with the clutch stop.
Twice tonight, the team fights back and gets the game tied, and he immediately gives it right back. 0:56 and then 2:25. At some point you need a save. Maybe you can forgive the tip, but that Matthews goal was a shot from a long way out that just flat out beat him.

What is he supposed to do on those 2 goals though? We leave Simmonds completely alone and he tips the puck up. 0 chance to save that unless Koskinen is a sumo wrestler. Lame play by Nurse leaving Simmonds to make a pitiful block attempt so that best case Bear has to battle 2 leafs in front of the net if there is a rebound.
Then we let Matthews walk in and he puts it right over Koskinen's pad. That goes in on most goalies if it finds its way through the traffic.
Not sure what miracles people are hoping for from Koskinen, but this is more of an issue of this team just not playing after they score. We only try hard when we're down. No surprise we get scored on a lot in tied games.
This is kind of a loser team that constantly chokes.

The problem isn't that they're bad goals, it's that he makes so few great saves. Sometimes your goalie has to just stop the puck. Jason Gregor had the argument that the two games where he's given up 5 goals, none of the goals were terrible. That may be true, but a good goalie stops some of them all the same. We're getting none of that from Koskinen, especially at key points and it has to be demoralizing for the team.
The defence and depth forwards all suck too though, so I agree there.
And the Matthews goal doesn't happen if Yamamoto doesn't muff that clearing attempt.

He made a great save to keep us within 1. Then we tried to score from the goal line a few times to finish the game off.
Last game Hellebuyck let in 2 or 3 turd goals that people would be going insane about if Koskinen allowed, and we still find a way to lose, letting the Jets fire on open nets.
Koskinen isn't great. He's not going to steal many games. You actually have to play 80% or more of the game in front of him if you want to win. We only managed around 33% tonight.
Personally, I'm looking many other places right now for reasons we lost. This team is perfectly capable of destroying the confidence of any number of goalies. It likely requires a generational tier goalie to survive this clown show for a whole season. This is the kind of team that has guys like Dubs and Talbot leaving with everyone thinking their career should be over. We're making things worse too of course by having zero NHL quality backup.
