Pretty incredible that this team has degraded to the point where you're hard-pressed to come up with who should be the fourth forward on the ice during overtime, and your second powerplay unit doesn't have a guy with more than five goals on it 50+ games in to the season. For crying out loud, Zack Kassian, despite a pretty rough campaign overall is currently 5th in goals on the team with 6...And it's looking unlikely we'll have more than 5 or 6 guys with double digits at the end of the year.
This weekend has to be seen as a disaster for the Oilers. I know people like to throw out the cliche about going .500 on the road, but since the invention of the Bettman point, that's not really accurate. If you take only half the points, you're losing ground. These were two winnable games that the team was in a position to win, and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The next ten days probably decides the management's direction for this season - and after this, it's hard to feel that the team is going to be able to really challenge for a post-season berth...

First off... you're 1000% spot on, my friend. Yeah, they got 2 of 4 points, .500 in terms of points. But they HAD THE LEAD in the third period in BOTH games! They LOST both, LOST both games. The weekend was a disaster. We entered the weekend 3 points back... we're still 3 points back. What was the term, treading water?
Ha. You know what... Kassian also has some wheels. I get the Chiasson play because of his goal output this year, but would Kassian be THAT bad of an OT play in comparison?? He can skate... he can play defence pretty well (he IS one of our better PKers) and he CAN create a little offence.
You know who is an Oiler and can do some things on the big European ice? JP. 3v3 opens a lot of ice... Using my forward pairs from a post in the GDT, why not have 97/29 as your OT1, 93/98 as your OT2?
Sigh. Here's to a sober Monday leading to another (likely) high on Tuesday leading up to the game only to (again) come crashing down in the disappointment rocket that has about as much oomph as a Gene Principe monologue. I hope Keith makes a move soon so my focus can be turned away from the lack of finish this current team has (outside of the big 3).
