They have no puck moving D. No offensive minded defensemen. Forwards can’t get the puck in the right spots, other teams are clamping down extra hard knowing they’re thin on the blue line. It’s that time of the season, the dog days, and unfortunately Oilers are battling injuries along with expected lethargy, as it is a long road. You can’t give 60 minute efforts every night, you just can’t. Goaltending takes a dip and the team’s confidence folds along with it. The initial bump from the coaching change has worn off. Guys are probably miserable knowing the season is on the brink of being over and that they just don’t have the horses. Would be hard not to look ahead and not ponder what it would take to squeak into the playoffs only to get ousted. Toiling in mediocrity, the worst spot to be in. Best thing they could do is tank and get another high pick and reset for next year, turfing Chia once the season is done.
