I'm expecting a good effort tonight.
They haven't played well but managed 2 wins in the last 3 games. They had a pretty busy, tiring run. McDavid looked like he was going to puke after his goal. A bunch of new faces due to the trades. Guys coming back from long injuries with not a lot of practice time to integrate them. Takes time to gel.
I would play Koskinen tonight. Koskinen stood on his head in Dallas and they won. Smith was OK against Nashville but the offense destroyed the Preds and he did let in 3 goals. Smith wasn't great against the Hawks, Koskinen comes in and shuts the door. Koskinen stands on his head against Columbus and they win. Koskinen literally won the his last 2 starts all by himself. Ride the hot hand. He should have had a shutout against Columbus if it wasn't for that bad Leon give away. Plus what messages does it say to Koskinen if you don't start him. I would start Koskinen against Vegas based on what he's done then have Smith in on Wednesday regardless.
I would also go to Smith and physically tell him the plan. He basically had a shutout, Smith based on his afterhours interview told Koskinen to consider it a shut out. USUALLY if you get a shut out, you automatically get the next start unless it's a back to back. Smith shouldn't be pissed. If the tables were turn, I bet he's be expecting to start.
