I don't know that my heart could take watching a playoff series between these teams should they wind up meeting down the road....

I like the OIL's chances against anyone. This was a final test to erase any doubts going into the playoffs. And the OIL can play better... god

Division hopes still alive.

Even if we don’t win it, beating Colorado has got to be a good thing for that room.

We can beat anybody.

Avalanche have to be the worst team in the league for embellishment. They should be embarrassed. It’s like they have 6 Michael Buntings on their team on any given night.

Made the win even sweeter.

I’m down in the DR and I was surprised to see the great feeds they get here. What a great game to watch. This team has the potential to be great.

I’m a believer.

Ek and Bouch are a heck of a pair. Took on Nate's line all night and got both our goals. First time I've felt the Oilers have a legit top pair in a long time.

I think I can take some credit, I was verbally abusing Bouchard for not getting shots and passes through this whole game, and be damned if he doesn't pot the overtime winner! Used to make Paul Coffey a better player when I did that too, come to think of it.

I like how he's out there with 64, 51 and 37 goal scorers and he's just like, f-it gonna just put this home myself.

Bouchard mentioned that McDavid had told him to fake the pass & go for that play, since the D would naturally cheat towards covering McDavid.

A neat example of a season balancing out for a player.

Bouch up to Jan 1st: PDO 0.947 in 568:40. 6.37 Sh%, 88.32 sav%
Bouch Jan 1 to now: PDO 1.036 in 652:15. 11.69 SH%, 91.86 Sav%

He's now at a PDO of 0.995 for the season at 5v5.

Getting paired with Ekholm and starting to get more McDavid time obviously was a big help. He had a PDO of 1.000 from Jan 1 to Feb 28 though, largely playing with Broberg. This team flipped a switch in the new year in a lot of ways, and then even more in the last month or so. Hope they can keep it up into the playoffs.

He’s getting more expensive by the day. No chance his agent lets him sign long term unless it’s a huge overpay.

That sure felt like it could be a Western Conference final. Wish stupid Vegas would hurry up and lose a game already. Ridiculous that as hot as we've been, that we've barely closed the gap on them.

And about the Calder - I'm obviously biased, but I really don't get the talk that Beniers is a shoe in. I mean I believe he will win in a landslide because the Oilers are never allowed to have a Calder winner, but I don't think he should.

More often than not, the top rookie point scorer will get the nod. But Beniers' .722Pts/Gm would be the lowest in a decade. You have to go back to 2013 when Yakupov and Huberdeau each had .646 (Huberdeau won and Yakupov wasn't even a finalist).

And the previous year, Landeskog won the Calder with 52 points in 82 games for .634. Somehow RNH with 52 in 62 games (.84Pts/Gm) was a fairly distant 2nd in voting.

Since 2000, those are the only 2 Calder winners with lower pt/gm numbers than what Beniers will finish with, and even then, Landeskog and RNH were tied for 86th overall, and Huberdeau and Yakupov 75th. Currently, Beniers is tied for 97th overall in points. His season is really not anything special IMO.

In 2010 Duchene led with .679 and the Calder went to Tyler Myers. 2004 Ryder had .778 and the Calder went to Raycroft. Zetterberg in 2003 only had .557, Calder went to Jackan, and Brad Richards had .756 in 2001, and the trophy went to Nabokov.

Nabokov 32-21-7, 2.19, .915 won handily over Brad Richard and his 62 points.
Raycroft 29-18-9, 2.05, .926 won easily over Ryder and his 63 points
Mason 33-20-7,-2.29, .916 in a landslide over Bobby Ryan and his 57 points (in only 64 games)

To me - the case to vote for Skinner's 28-14-5, 2.76, .914 over Beniers' likely sub 60 point campaign is quite easy. Especially how Skinner has played the last month and half or so. 4 straight games now with 1 or fewer GA. 13-2-1 in his last 16.

While I agree with all this, what about Logan Thompson? Slightly less games played, slightly better stats. Some injury issues or he'd probably have played as much or more.

I think those two are really close.

Just to add to the case for Skinner. I think he had a much tougher year than Thompson had to deal with. Ending up top 10 in goals saved above average 5v5 is pretty darn impressive. He had to play behind a team that was pretty stinky defensively for the first half of this year. Offensively too, as we seemed to only want to score goals with Campbell in net for the first few months of the year. Probably just a coincidence, but one that just kept working against Skinner for a long time. Thompson also didn't play more than half the games for his team. Skinner had to take over a starter role after our big money guy was struggling and stuck it out all year. Landeskog/Nuge and McDavid/Panarin rules say being injured is a black mark on your Calder chances, sorry Thompson :)

ALl that said, it's always hard for voters to not just default to the best offensive player for the Calder. Hopefully Skinner is getting some love, but wouldn't be surprised if Beniers gets it.

It'll be interesting to see what Bouchard gets....great to see him get the OT winner on the PP...just wish he wasn't as gun shy on earlier looks of prior PP opportunities...

Gotta be a confidence building thing for him. He looked shaky as heck the first 2-3 games after Barrie left. He's been gradually getting better this whole way though. PP work was his bread and butter in Junior, but he hasn't got much opportunity in the NHL until Barrie was finally out.

We've had some alright seasons in the past few years, but they were largely just McDavid/Draisaitl plus a top PP covering up issues like:
- Bad 5v5 play away from McDavid
- Lack of depth scoring
- Poor coaching
- Chaotic goaltending
- Defense in general

None of that is true anymore.
- 5v5 play is in the green away from McDavid
- We have 5 forwards (Ryan/Kostin/Bjugstad/Yams/McLeod) with 10+ goals not named McDavid/Draisaitl/Nuge/Hyman/Kane
- Woodcroft is a modern day details coach
- Stuart Skinner is reliable
- Finally we have competent defense, thanks to Ekholm transforming its look. Everybody can handle their load now.

I'm looking for the deficiencies, but I don't see much. Jack Campbell seeing playoff action is probably the biggest worry.

It's been a lot of fun since the deadline. We are for real.

Great game - felt they outplayed the Avs most of the game. Great stuff for an ESPN national broadcast, so people in Colorado actually got to see what the Oilers are about.

Big win mentally for the team. It's nice to see they are able to play lock down defense against teams other than bad ones.

I wish Bouchard would dramatically reduce how much he uses his slap shot and do more wrist shots. He doesn't seem to get his slap shot through anywhere close to as often and he missed the net way more than his wrist shot.

Ekholm continues to be unreal. Playing over 20 mins a night. They are 17-2-1 with him in the line up. Has helped settle down Bouchard so he can take the step to becoming the dman he should be. 4 goals, 13 pts, +26 in 20 games. Fantastic defensively. Joins the rush, moves the puck well. He's everything the Oilers could have wanted in a dman. Thank god they didn't trade for Chychrun who tomorrow will have missed 3 weeks.

I do think Colorado excelled at neutralizing our PP. We'll need to change how we move the puck forward if we face them in the playoffs. They also completely neutralized Draisaitl every single zone entry he made. no fly-by's, constant pressure and he seemed stuck a lot.

Regarding LD and his zone entries, that's on him to not be so predictable.

Statement game, Oilers took this over later in the game.

The only issue I had is the Oilers' breakout, I didnt think they supported it that well, but it didnt cost them. I like how our bottom 6 outshines other good teams' bottom 6 more regularly too.

Quite the run at the right time here.
