We've got Savoie, the last four first rounders (Broberg, Holloway, Borgault, and Schaeffer).... and a bunch of other guys. I'll be watching--it'll be guys wearing Oilers' Jerseys trying to beat guys wearing Flames, Jets, and Canucks' jerseys; what's not to like?

I'm actually a little surprised Broberg is going--I thought he might have graduated beyond this tournament by now. Not sure if that's his own choice or if the team gives the players marching orders on going or not.

From the team website:

"The Oilers Rookies play the Jets Rookies on Friday, Sept. 16 at 5pm MT, the Flames Rookies on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 8:30pm MT and the Canucks Rookies on Monday, Sept. 19 at 3:30pm MT.

Young Stars Classic games will be streamed live on EdmontonOilers.com and the team's social media channels."

Following the conclusion of Rookie Camp, select players will be invited to attend Training Camp."

Yes, would have thought would be going right to the main camp - Holloway too. Maybe the Oilers want to see how they stack up vs. the competitions rookies and young up and comers. They should dominate if completely healthy

Or they just want them to get an extra couple of skates against tougher competition than what they've been used to. The kids at these tourneys are all hungry and have something to prove. Should be good hockey!

I think that's it, they want to see them in more competitive game situations, as well as longer ice times, Oiler training camp is competitive but you're still going against teammates and don't want to be "that guy" that winds up injuring someone.

That being said.. hope no one gets injured at the tourney! We had a few injuries at pre-season exhibition games last year.. Chaisson (most of year) .. and Samarukov (broken jaw), set both guys back significantly.

Oilers' rookies vs Jets' rookies, Friday Sept 16, 5pm (MDT).

Oilers' lineup:

Forwards

Dylan Holloway - James Hamblin - Xavier Bourgault
Matvey Petrov - Noah Philp - Tyler Tullio
Reid Schaefer - Filip Engaras - Carter Savoie
Dino Kambeitz - Cole Dubinsky - Jake Chiasson

Defence

Philip Broberg - Max Wanner
Noah Dorey - Michael Kesselring
Darien Kielb - Phil Kemp

No indication yet on who the starting goalie is.

Looks like all the guys you should be most interested in (Holloway, Bourgault, Petrov, Scheafer, Savoie, and Broberg) are all playing. You can catch the game on the Oilers' website (and maybe on youtube--I know this tournament has been streamed on youtube in the past).

Oilers' rookies prevail 3-2 on a late game winner by James Hamblin.

The Oilers really dominated play for the most part and the Jets' goalie kept them in it. Thought Broberg, Holloway, and Borgault really stood out. Can't say the same for Schaefer--didn't notice him as much.

Holloway's short-handed goal in the 2nd was a beauty. Total individual power move.

Canucks and Oilers seem to be the best two teams in this tournament, as this game has been pretty good.

2-1 Oilers going in to the third. The Oilers haven't lost in regulation in this tournament since 2013. Let's keep it going.

To follow up on Benv.. Oil Rookies win 5-2 .. as Benv said Holloway with an absolute beauty drive to the net on the PK for a great shortie.. kid has speed and skill.. with a laser shot.. he'll be on the Oil this season.. they had him on all the PK's this tourney.. I think they see him on PK in order to get him enough ice time if he makes the Oilers.. similar to what they did with McLeod last year.. he has the IQ, strength, and speed to do well on an NHL PK.. and possibility to move up the line up as he progresses 5 on 5.

Some other rough notes;

Schaefer scored on a wicked shot top of circle.. you can see where he can fit in.. big, strong, heavy play, in straight lines, net front, snipe shots .. he needs minimum couple of years development.. +1 WHL, +1or 2 in AHL

Wanner is a rough-gem IMHO.. big, aggressive, RHS d-man, decent mobility, able to move the puck, Adam-Larsson-like.. great pick for the 7th round.. he has +1 WHL.. +2 or 3 in the AHL.. presume similar path as Kesellring..

Keselring looking good .. mobile, aggressive, moves the puck, can work an offensive blue line, waiting for an NHL chance to prove himself.

Broberg just getting in some high end ice time, he's NHL ready, his challenge will be handling the intensity of NHL physicality in his own end and being able to retrieve and move the puck up and out.. .

XB all world puck handling, skating is likely good enough for NHL.. but I think he'll need a full season to adjust his skill set to man-size hockey.. and higher than CHL level speed.. if its less than a full season I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Petrov.. looked kinda lost out there.. needs a lot to work on.. strength, positioning.. he's one of the youngest Oil rookies, lots of time to develop.. he already has the great shot, decent skating, he'll be back in the OHL this year.. after this camp he'll know better how much more he needs to develop to get to the pro level. Expect a solid OHL season.

Darien Kielb LHS D-man was solid all tourney.. has potential..

Hats off to.. Cole Dubinsky.. had a great goal today, sweet top corner backhand.. played solid
