In slightly less than 9 hours the pregame thread will go up for game 6 and we fans will once again have a confined space in which we can discuss the finer points of Oilers playoff hockey. However, before that ritual begins I'd like to offer everyone a safe space where we can be fans of a city, team, and collection of men. Yes, there are reasons we should be concerned with our team, but let's not lose sight of what we are going to get to watch tomorrow. Two sets of physical specimens are going to do their absolute level best to try and crush the sole of their opposition.

More importantly, our team gets to do that with Connor freaking McDavid, who I can promise you will be as pissy as Leon Draisaitl. So relax and have a little faith. Did you think this was going to be easy? No my friends, playoff hockey is not easy. It was never meant to be easy. So gather your supplies for tomorrow night and enjoy the warm up to Friday. It's going to be a good game.

The pay off for your faith, by the way, is worth the stress. Should the Oilers win tomorrow we get to experience a game 7... at home... in Edmonton... on what's shaping up to be a very pleasant Saturday... at night. So prepare your beers and wings. You're going to need 'em.

Yeah cause they are so great at that. Sorry trying to be positive but there is no human way to respond to that comment and not sound sarcastic.

This is a positivity thread, trying to build some optimism.... positive waves Baby!

Oilers have obvious limitations.. they just have to try to neutralize their effect, and boost their strengths to max capacity... turn it up to .. like ELEVEN! .

Every team that played today was actually trying hard all game long, so maybe we can do that too!

I mentioned this before but this seems like a good place to repeat:

The Oilers haven't lost a game 6 since 2003, going 5-0 in them since then.

Believe it or not, the last time the Oilers played at home in a game 7 was in 1990, when they stormed back from 3 games to 1 to beat Winnipeg in the first round and then went on to win their 5th cup. This is less daunting than that.

Let's get 'er done.

I had a VHS from that playoff, and every time I hear “Running down a dream” by Tom Petty it takes me back to watching that VHS.

Positivity towards the Oilers in this place? icon_lol That's a lot to ask for some.

I felt all long the Oilers would win this series. I thought in 6 but I guess it will take 7. The Oilers have more experience, are the better team and have more talent. All they need to do is bring and they should be fine. I'm expecting a win tonight.

Oilers are 4GF/2GA at 5x5 without McDavid or Draisaitl on the ice, and their underlying numbers are decent. Which, if you had told me before the series that that was the case, I would have bet the series would be over in 5 or less.

Woodcroft needs to find a way to get away from the Danault v Draisaitl matchup as that has not gone as well, which will be harder to do in LA.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Incorrect--the Coyotes won their play-in with Nashville, before getting thumped by the Avs in 5 games:

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/playoffdisplay.php?leagu e=nhl1927&season=2020&leaguenm=NHL

The NHL records those play-in games as playoff games anyway, so I think it would count regardless.

Not that I have been following the Bruins series that much but I haven't heard Hall's name mentioned at all. 5 games, 2 goals, 3 pts, -7. Not exactly lighting the world on fire is he.

Wow. And here I thought The Bison King was absolutely horrible carrying a 1-1-2 and a +1 into his game 6. (+/- is such a godawful stat to bring up btw)

I’m gonna be so jacked when Jesse pots the game winner tonight and we get to watch you, Stauffer, Spector and Matheson all eat crow.

I am with you. I dont understand the obsession some people have here with ex-oilers, especially when they arent't doind well. Oddly enough, it is the same people who puke out drivel they heard from terrible talk radio.
With the amount a few posters talk about Hall and Bear you would think the Oilers weren't in the playoffs!

Yessa is going to be just fine. His biggest problem is confidence and you can see the ebbs and flows. As he ages those will smooth out. He isn't a kid anymore at 24 but for the money he makes and the age he is I think he is fine.

Lastly, I am with you on +/-. Is it a stat, sure, but if you are using that as a key to any point you are trying to make I lose all respect for your hockey knowledge.

Not true. Taylor Hall lost the play-IN with the Coyotes. They never made the Play-OFFs

Incorrect--the Coyotes won their play-in with Nashville, before getting thumped by the Avs in 5 games:

LFGOILERS!

I’d like to add that it’s also JP13’s what… 2nd actual season in the league? Don’t gimme that pre-Finland crap as counting with how the organization did him dirty (yes, he has blame in there too but cmon)

6 Cups

The Oil got 2 games closer to a Cup than they did last year. That's all I got for positive thoughts.

5-14-6-1

"Sabres think the suck is their ally? They merely adopted the suck. The Oilers were born in it...molded by it."
