Start pressuring the defence 50 minutes into the most important game of the season.

Nice.

Yeah, it was kind of a let down.

I know the Kings need one more, but kinda feels like we used up everything we had in games 2 and 3, and the last 10 minutes of this one. Ooof.

Oilers are done. To arguably the weakest team coming into the playoffs, with injuries to two of their best players... while we have a completely healthy roster.

I hate this organization with a passion now. They never fail to completely disappoint.

I feel like we could be playing Montreal and still be finding ways to lose. This friggin team. Just know how low to set the effort bar to waste any opportunity they get.

This is the most accurate statement about the Oilers anyone could ever make. Whether the opposition is NHL elite or borderline AHL, the Oilers will have equal odds at win or lose.

Sports suck.

Whatever I can control in my life, I somehow have success. Blind faith? Fail. Oilers disappoint and lottoMax balls never fall in my favour.

We’ve got the next 2 games though. What’s a Cup run without a adversity?

Team Todd is generous and gives you chances to come back. Erased kings leads many times in the series. You gotta actually play still to win though.

Unfortunately I think the McLellan is a bad coach narrative is one of many that we tell ourselves, that paint over the real problems with the organisation.

Sigh...Oilers in 7.

Todd showed what he was in SJ before he came to Edmonton. Not much changed. Kings fans have the same complaints and will continue to. Beating our sad team that can't show up wouldn't change much.

Just to add. Team is still not great. Wouldn't disagree there. Our star acquisition last summer is looking like a buffoon on almost every goal against the last two games.

Todd still gets even less out of this roster if he is still coaching it though.

He had by a good margin the most balanced Oilers roster we've had since McDavid was an Oiler and sadly ran our goalie into the ground. Also had us choking leads by going into a shell.

Kings retooled in a hurry, for sure. And McLellan loves having good vets to run and motivate the room for him and has a rejuvenated Conn Smythe goalie to ride. He has done well with the underdog theme. Just don't expect too much more. Still poor at adjusting tactics, still prone to toss individuals under the bus when things go bad.

Doesn’t that omission seem a bit odd at this juncture. Good on him for admitting it, but…

Skating legs.

Is this game 47 of an 82 game season? Feels like the off ramp to nowhere right now.

Unfortunately I believe there is a reason we're avoiding the testing requirements by bussing over the border to fly to LA from Seattle.

...and I don't think it has anything to do with Archibald. Boston lost McAvoy to a positive test...could you imagine that happening to the Harts?!

Hopefully this is the last game we see from the Conspiracy Kid here. He is brutal as a hockey player and person.

Whole team played like they got lit up last night in Hollywood, but wow is Arch next level.

Sure hope this absolute no show doesn’t bite ‘em, cuz I have a bad feeling about this.

Wow.

I have no evidence either way, but they were definitely playing like a hungover team.

The only thing they should be drinking until July is water, gatoraide, or whatever fancy health shakes they make. This ain't the 70s/80s anymore.

1 Cup

Man - what a letdown after the euphoria of games 2 and 3.

And even in this game, 97 took over in the 3rd, but after we tied it up, seems like they stopped playing the last minute of the game. They were lucky to get it to OT, but sadly the domination by the Kings in the last minute of the 3rd continued in the OT. Looked like boys against men for the full 1:12 of OT.

Smith with another sub .900Save% game. None of the goals were super weak, but he was flopping around on the first one and never really got set, the 2nd was just a shot that got by him. 3rd goal, on his belly flopping around and Brown just flips it by him. 4th goal was a nice deflection by Danault that trickled through his legs. And the OT winner was basically a breakaway, so whatever. I don't put the loss on Smith, and he did make a few really nice stops, but that is 2 sub .900 games against a team that throws everything they can on net. It's not good enough.

I'm pretty deflated right now and sadly don't have high hopes for game 6. What happens if we lose to an inferior opponent for the 3rd year in a row? I don't see any super easy fixes other than an upgrade in net, but I'm not sure that'll be enough.

Bah

Leon sounded… sick. Like head cold sick.

Coughing. Sniffling. Sounded congested.

Leon sounded EXACTLY like everyone I know who has or recently had covid sounded. Same nasal tone, same dry sparse cough, and apparently, same fatigue level.

Maybe Matty will ask Smith why he’s so pissy.

We still have a legendary HHOF bullet in the chamber.

Glad I don’t watch this team anymore.

They lose this series their should be a mass fan exodus, and a revolt. Truly something remarkable. Cursed franchise. Even if they win, they have no real chance against a capable opponent.

I think they can make things right but it would take ownership to sell the team and/or a deep organizational purge — we’re talking fundamental deconstruction and tear down, with a full ground up rebuild with new blood in hockey ops. Completely unrealistic and probably hasn’t been done before in any sport. I just think the black cloud from the top is so powerful, and stench from the OBC so pungent, that it really will take a complete overhaul for this team to ever win it all, even with McJesus in the fold.

Team needs better D for starters. And maybe some sports psychologists.

This game was like a microcosm of the Oilers. Outshot 16-5 in the first period of a must win game at home.

Put McDrai together and magic can happen for short stints, but it's never enough to overcome the deficiencies of this team for an extended period.

Also, it ended in a wash, but I hate the double minor for drawing blood so much. The dumbest penalty in all of sports.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

The shot discrepancy was due to Kings players blocking shots... but that's probably more of a statement that the Kings were willing to give more to win.

JP benched midway through the 3rd… he’s going to be this off season’s Ethan bear, isn’t he? 😭

I hate this organization.
