Xavier Bourgault, too.

Saw a photo of Bourgault on a story this morning and though oh no - Matheson is not going to like this kid:

Happy XB made it as an Oiler fan, but as a TC fan I really hope he gets it done, and makes things happen and shows he deserves the spot.
I'm a little worried Bedard will falter against the big 19 year-olds every team will have.
Noticed we have a few short guys on forward, hope they have elite speed!

Still can't believe Clarke never even got an invite.

Still can't believe they re-hired Cameron as coach after his last gold-medal debacle.

GO CANADA GO!! Oh Yeah!

Best TC goal song ever! Got pumped just watching this clip!

Notable EXCEPTIONS.

Brandt Clarke Defense (Barrie Colts OHL).. this kid was the team leader in the gold medal U-18's team last year.. he was the Freaking 1st ROUND 8th OVERALL pick from last year!!!! What is going on here?

Corson Ceulemans (NCAA- Wisconsin) .. he was another team leader on the gold medal U-18's last year. and another 1st ROUND # 25 overalll.. ?

Notable INCLUSIONS

Ronan Seeley L 6’1” 192 08/02/02 Olds, Alta. Everett (WHL) Carolina 7th round pick??
Ryan Tverberg R 5’11” 175 01/30/02 Richmond Hill, Ont. University of Connecticut (HE) a Toronto 7th round pick.. WTdoubleF???

Who are these guys? How does a Toronto and Carolina 7th rounder make it into selection camp, did somebody owe somebody on the Canes and Leafs a favour?

How does Ryan Tverberg get an invite over a 2 pts a game sniper like Savoie?

Hope they get a gold, because as usual the most important selections for any Team Canada Hockey team are the guys that pick the teams.. we always have a team that will win gold.. we just need to have smart enough people to pick the right roster. Looks like they left a few great players on the sidelines.
Personal assessment.. the most important part of any sport franchise.

When was the last time a non-first round, non-goalie draft pick of ours made Team Canada's junior team? I'm struggling to remember anyone. I think we had a goalie who was back-up a few years back, but can't think who that was. I didn't see it in the stats for Bunz, Roy or Skinner.

Oh Oh... just realized the coach is Dave Cameron.. worst coach I can remember for a WJHC TC team.

He's the guy that was in charge when Canada had a 3 goal lead in the 3rd period, at home in Canada, and Russia came back with 4 unanswered goals to win in regulation.. total meltdown.. all I can remember was Cameron yelling at the players at the bench during a timeout (a TO decision that was too late btw).. and you could tell he was absolutely freaking out his players.. they came out of the time out and played worse.. super tight..

You could tell that Cameron was totally PO'd, super bad energy, likely because he was using the WJHC coaching gig as a means to get a NHL job, and saw it slipping away..

I'll say it right now, bad choice by Hockey Canada.

I feel if Savoie was 2 inches taller, he’d be on Hockey Canada’s radar more. Also would have been on a lot more NHL teams radar and wouldn’t have fallen to us as he did.

I’ll admit I was shocked, SHOCKED, when Holland an co were gifted arguably the most NHL ready goalie in this recent draft and traded down to take Borgault, the French Canadian Yamamoto 😏

Edit: didn’t realize he’s listed as a tall 5’9”... so add 2 inches to that I guess instead of my original 4 and he’s likely taken a lot more seriously in hockey circles.

He's actually 6'-0" so he's got that at least over Yamo so far :)

C. Savoie actually was pointless in last two games for Denver, which were blow outs over Minni Duluth.. so debatable if Savoie was better than the players selected.

But I think Clutch might have been referring to the other Savoie, his brother Matt, leading the WHL in scoring.

I expect responses to this post to be all about Jim Matheson and very little about Petrov, but it's an interesting question to me.

"Edmonton hockey writer Jim Matheson raised an interesting question when he asked why Oilers prospect Matvey Petrov, who is tearing up the OHL with 19 goals and 44 points in 27 games, was not chosen for Russia’s world junior roster. Is Russia that deep offensively that they have no room for someone who ranks third in OHL scoring? Or could it be because Petrov is playing in North Bay rather than northern Siberia"

I question the same thing, but the Russian junior team has left Russians playing over here in the CHL off the roster before, so not really surprised, I'm guessing they want to reward the kids that stay at home.. similar to why we leave off some good Canadian NCAA players in past years, much less so now, but I remember a few high ranked NCAA guys left off. Hockey Canada much more concerned about winning now than politics, which is why we probably have 13 Western Canadians playing this year.

Were there any Russian CHL kids picked up by Russia?

Just popping in to remind everyone about the time Jim Matheson got his twitter hacked and everybody's feed was some random lady in a bikini.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

With the NHL shutting down a lot of games for Christmas, I wonder if any of Tyson Foerster (Phi), Cole Sillinger (St. Louis), Seth Jarvis (Car.) get loaned to Team Canada juniors?

Pre-tournament games have been suspended.. might get a game or two before Christmas.

I wonder if this shuts down the tournament. Given the speed it's blasted through the NHL teams, you gotta hope those kids aren't out and about this weekend. It doesn't take much to wipe out a team's ability to play any games.

Some people have held onto their tickets for two years. Would hate to be the person contacting the ticket holders who will be very disappointed.

It was never about immunity, it has about protecting all of society so we could get back to normal. Which we have. The World Juniors should be fun this year, hopefully I get to take in a game.

Only one pre-tournament game for Canada, and it's against Russia this evening (Thursday).Per Mark Masters, projected Team Canada lineup.

Projected 🇨🇦 lineup tonight

Perfetti - Wright - Bourgault
Johnson - McTavish - Bourque
Neighbours - Greig - Sourdif
Cuylle - Desnoyers - Guenther
Bedard

Power - Zellweger
Guhle - Cormier
Sebrango - Lambos
O’Rourke - Seeley

Garand / Cossa

@TSN_Edge

Bourgault on a line with Perfetti and Wright. Lots of shuffling possible (maybe even likely), but young Xavier must be making a strong impression in the training camp sessions.

Go Canada!!! rock rock rock

MacTavish looks solid, he'll be a force in the NHL, and Power.. guy could play NHL right now.

Bourgault looked pretty quiet out there..

Cossa let in some soft ones.. 3GA for 11.. likely the back up to Garland.

Just tuned in to the game vs the Czechs. 3-1 after 5 shots on goal? Is Koskinen playing net for us or something?

Also, goddamn it's cold back here in AB! 40 degrees colder than PEI!

Canada's Bourgault could miss time after hit to head

That sucks.
Guy gets direct hit to head with elbow, not even an interference call.
Should start doing video reviews.

Xavier Bourgault’s status with Team 🇨🇦 may be in question after taking hard hit to head in third period vs. CZE yesterday.
No official word yet on concussion/no concussion but I’d be surprised if he practices today and/or plays tomorrow vs. AUT. We may know more post 🇨🇦 practice.

Bobby Margarita
@TSNBobMcKenzie
If Bourgault doesn’t play vs. AUT tomorrow it would open the door for 14th F Logan Stankoven to draw into the lineup.
