Guess I'm an islanders fan. Other 3 teams can go to hell.

With you there pal.

Why are we down on Vegas?

I just really enjoy their fan base getting everything so easy but still finishing every year disappointed.

Ah. Fair enough. They gotta learn to earn it.

I’m still kind of pro-TB because of 2004. I don’t want them to win because their fans are annoying me with the stupid thunder sticks during games. It’s almost as bad as South African vuvuzelas and when the Anaheim Angels were briefly good.

Tampa's out for me cause of the LTIR crap. Maybe I'm just jealous that our team doesn't have the balls to try to take advantage of any rule. And Montreal, don't want to see any other team in Canada win it.

I never want Quebec to be happy. Their fans were always so arrogant when I was a kid. Thank god we could only watch their games on channel 11.

Kadri suspended from his teams elimination for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Avs had 11PP in 2 wins and 6 total PP in 4 losses. NHL really does want the hook/grab/interfere teams to win. Three of the four left fall into that category, and Tampa are massive cheaters.

Thanks NHL.

Who is asking this question? A more vulgar evil twin of Terry Jones?

I believe it was Adrian Dater.

And it aired live and uncensored on Sportsnet.

The Avs lost in my opinion because of their defense. Avs have a young but smaller, not overly physical, not overly tough, good skating, puck moving defense that Vegas went after. Vegas has an older, bigger, tougher, more physical defense.

Toews 6'1-191
Makar 5'11-187
Graves 6'5 228
Girard 5'10 170
Nemeth 6'3 228
Timmins 6'2 185

4 out of 6 are under 190 or less and Graves hits some but it's overly tough or nasty. Nemeth is physical and a bit tough. Toews sort of hits but isn't overly tough or nasty. So half of their defense is undersize and not physical at all but skate well and move the puck.

Vegas
Martinez 6'1 209
Pietroangelo 6'3 210
McNabb 6'4 216
Theodore 6'2 195
Holden 6'4 214
Whitecloud 6'2 211

So Vegas only has 1 guy under 200. Martinez is a vet, plays with an edge. Pietro is big, physical, tough and can play masty. McNabb is physical and nasty Theodore is not physical. Holden is somewhat physical and Whitecloud is physical and can be nasty. So Vegas defense is big and over half are tough to play against.

Like it or not the playoffs is different. Refs let more things go and the hockey is way, way more nasty, tougher and nasty. So what works in the regular season, may not work in the playoffs. If you look at who's left, the defenses tend to be on the bigger side that play have some bite to their game.

Vegas has the Stauffer dream team. Lots of solid D that can move the puck but they're also big boys. And that forward group is so hard to handle, yet still loaded with skill.

It's a good point too though that the penalties suddenly dried up in game 3. Not sure what happened there, all of a sudden everything shifted about how the games were called to help Vegas. At the same time, Tampa just kept getting endless powerplays for basically anything.

What is the capacity limits in the remaining teams arenas? Vegas is max, Tampa max, Islanders might be max too. Montreal was the first to open things up.

Somehow it worked out that the final 4 is gonna provide the NHL with the absolute max revenue possible per game to try to recoup some money for the COVID season? Bloody miracle!

Problem is (usually) the players are too smart, too well coached, to say anything meaningful due to the potential of it being contorted for negative impact on the player or team.. oh, and you can't criticize the league officials or refs otherwise you get a fine and/or suspension.. nothing good can come from it for them.. then the media are left with just asking the same old questions.. over .. and.. over.. except for idiot moments like that guy had.. wow.

Tim McAuliffe actually steps up and starts the conversation about holding/hooking/obstructing/interference on star players. Ron McLean brings out every excuse in the book to back up the "poor referees" and the NHL.

Here's an additional advantage Tampa has with their $99M cap.. Florida has no state tax..

Here's a website for total player take home pay comparison of Oilers spending to $99M cap vs. Tampa.
https://gavingroup.ca/nhl-tax-calculator/

Example: $99M cap

Oiler tax @ 48% = $47,490,300

Tampa tax @ 37% = $36,590,400

Difference in Tampa Players pockets = + $10,899,900 (almost $11M)
So you could say Tampa is using an effective player take-home cap of $110M when compared to some higher taxed teams, such as all Canadian teams.

As another example, IF NHL teams actually observed $81.5M cap, and compared to Oilers player take-home payroll.

Franchise Tax % Payroll Tax	Tax % Payroll Tax (compared to Oilers)
Dallas Stars 36.96 $30,122,400 -11.0 -$8,965,000

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

I read the tweet, I'm not a tax lawyer but his explanation sounds over simplified.. what little I know of the CRA, they don't give up taxation that easily.. here just a brief description of a RCA..

Quote:

What is a Retirement Compensation Arrangement?
A retirement compensation arrangement (RCA) is a
non-registered plan set up by an employer to provide
benefits to an employee or group of key employees upon
retirement, termination a change in service. For the
employee, it is a supplemental pension – an opportunity
for private business owners and executives to overcome
the income gap they face in retirement. Pension consultants
today suggest that an adequate pension should be
approximately 70% of pre-retirement income. However,
unless there are many years to contribute, along with
consistently high investment returns, the amount of
retirement income that can be generated from a registered
retirement savings plan (RRSP) or a registered pension
plan (RPP) is often less than what people really need for a
comfortable retirement.
The pension gap is a problem for most Canadians, but it is
especially acute for private business owners and their senior
executives. A key problem is that RRSP contribution limits
are based on the premise that an annual contribution of
18% of salary provides a business owner with an adequate
pension. But, earning over $80,555 per year actually results
in a pension shortfall.
For example, if you’re a business owner who earned an
average annual income of $180,000 in the last five years
before you retired, you should have an annual retirement
income of $126,000 (or 70% of your income before retirement).
However, due to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) ceiling
on your RRSP contributions over the years, you will instead
end up with an RRSP that’s only large enough to produce an
income of approximately $85,000 per year. This means you
are left with a pension gap of $41,000 per year. An RCA can
produce the income you need to cover that shortfall.
How Do They Work?
An RCA, under Section 248 (1) of the Income Tax Act, is
a plan under which an employer provides an employee
with supplemental retirement benefits payments.
Employer contributions, including the refundable tax, are
100% tax-deductible by the employer and are not taxable
to the employee until the employee receives them. The
employer makes contributions to the custodian of an RCA
trust, and the trust pays the employee the benefits after or
upon contemplation of retirement, upon loss of employment
or upon any substantial changes in services rendered.
A 50% refundable tax is imposed on all contributions to
the plan and on income earned within the plan, unless the
plan holds a tax-exempt life insurance policy. This means
that even 50% of the growth goes to CRA, unless the RCA
is funded with a tax-exempt life insurance policy. The
RCA trust refunds $1 for every $2 of tax paid out, through
the Refundable Tax Account, when payments are made
to the employee. The benefit provided under the RCA, in
combination with RRSPs or RPPs, should be a reasonable
sum. CRA has indicated that a reasonable sum would
be a combined RRSP/RPP/RCA income equal to 70% of
the employee’s average annual income in the five years
preceding retirement.
Who Qualifies for an RCA?
Owners and executives of successful, private corporations
as well as executives of public corporations with substantial
incomes may qualify. Generally, the company should
achieve annual profit levels in excess of the small business
deduction limit to qualify for the plan. The RCA is also for
individuals seeking potential creditor proofing and could
be considered as a business exit strategy for owners who
may sell their business.

I was playing golf with Ryan Getzlaf and Chris Kunitz years ago. The topic of take home pay, expenses, taxes, etc was discussed and they both agreed that a good accountant was as important as a good agent.

I was playing golf with Ryan Getzlaf and Chris Kunitz years ago. The topic of take home pay, expenses, taxes, etc was discussed and they both agreed that a good accountant was as important as a good agent.

I dont know him well enough to have that kinda pull. We him and I were both younger his girlfriend lived in the apartment next to mine. When he was home in the offseason he was there a lot.
The golf game I mentioned happened by total luck. Kunitz was in my parking lot to pick up Getzlaf. When Ryan came out I was taking my clubs out my trunk and it turned out their 4th had cancelled last minute and they invited me to come along.

I havent seen him around town in years. Last I heard, he started living full time in CA after he got married.
Chris, his brother and former CFL player, still lives here last I heard. Maybe I need to hunt him down.

I am on the fence for the Tampa - Isles series. I really don't enjoy defensive hockey so I do not want the Isles to win. On the flip side, I know Tampa has found a way around it in the rule but I think what they are doing and being that far over the cap is cheating.

In my opinion, if you are hurt and can't play the whole season, in order to be eligible for the playoffs, you should have to play at least 1 game prior to the playoffs. Which means, your team needs to be cap compliant. So Tampa would have had to accommodate Kucherov and his 9.5 mill. I don't care how, just get under the cap like every team is supposed too. I heard in an interview with a Tampa team media guy prior to playoffs, Kucherov had been practicing with the team for a month. That's on top of all the work he would have done on his own. So it's conceivable, he'd been working hard for at least 2 months. That's a normal freaking offseason for a lot of players. I do not buy that the last couple of days between Tampa's last regular season game and the first playoff game was the tipping point for him to be able to play at all. It's a horrible look in my opinion and I do wonder if we will see more teams stashing guys on LTIR, then miraculously they are healed for game 1 of the playoffs. If teams don't do that, they are stupid in my opinion because it's a big advantage. Have a guy take a "hard hit" in practice and he's out with a concussion. You just never know if they can just pop back up out of no where.

How much did Hall increase his value in Boston in the end?

14 points in 16 games in the regular season, many games vs Buffalo. 5 points in 11 playoff games. Pretty invisible in the series they lost.

Wonder what the market for him will be

Just my opinion but I think Hall will get a 4 yr deal at 6.5 mill from Boston and I don't think on the open market he can do any better.

NHL refereeing is so freaking pathetic, Tampa just scores to go ahead 2-1 with SEVEN!! (7) players on the ice, 4 refs and linesmen and they don't see it, 4 blind mice. Should have been a NYI powerplay instead its a Tampa 2 man advantage.. goal.

Don't see how the league could resist trying to nudge these last series along to as close to the full 7 games as they can get. So much money to be made after a year of barely anything for ticket revenues.

This is when having such arbitrary calling of the rule book comes in handy.

Just to add, in the 1st intermission, "The Panel" (hrudey, mcLean, biscuit) went on.. and on .. and on.. about how th erefs "blew" the call on Point crashing into the Iles goalie to get a PP, and eventually a PPG... so in the 2nd intermission I'm expecting at least an acknowledgment of the SEVEN men on the ice for the Tampa 2nd goal.. but.. crickets.. nada.. like it never happened... NHL Inc. mafia must have got on the phone? .. or is The Panel just incompetent.. or both?

Is that guy on Lightning payroll? It was one of the most homerish things I heard on a national broadcast. He was almost crying.

Thought same thing, Galley was sounding like a Tampa version of that Bruins homer dude, except he's supposed to be doing a national broadcast, like you said he was almost crying.

Just saw your post, you nailed it.. Jack Edwards to a T... as in Tampa.

I hope all the remaining teams somehow lose and the Cup is not rewarded, but this game was probably the most embarrassing example of officiating for the NHL this season.

Call the damn games like you have refs and rules of play. This is effing horrible.

Kucherov hooking and holding Anthony Beauvillier all the way up the ice in the third. Beauvillier pops Kucherov in the head to make him let go. Roughing penalty....???

St Laurent can be a real stinker of a ref sometimes.

Yeah he sounds to me like Greg Millen's long lost twin. I thought Millen was back doing color. It's uncanny.
