Pricing just released for the WJHC in Edmonton & Red Deer next year:

https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/team-canada/men/junior/202 0-21/tickets?elqTrackId=3C4DF0042B93F45DCC288BE730964E7B& ;elq=803d15da3279482490a325baeb80c9e5&elqaid=127&elq at=1&elqCampaignId=62

8-game ticket packs for $500 to $1300 - with two Canada games guaranteed.

Honestly, I think you get better bang for your buck waiting for this to be somewhere cool in Europe and flying over there to watch it for cheap. A friend of mine went last minute to Czech Republic a few years ago, and got tickets for every game for $99 from the box office. They thought it was a steep price before they realized that got them in to all the games.

Games in Red Deer are a lot cheaper - but there's no meaningful Team Canada games there (and the OEG doesn't rake in the profits for the games in RD!)

I'm still not giving the Oilers money. I can't support that horribly run organization. That means no Oilers games, no Oil Kings, no merch, and no world juniors.

This is fine.

Question. Will everything be back to normal come December?

Hoping for the best but prepared for disappoinment. The CHL teams are scheduling to start the first week of December, with full schedules planned. Usually in November, the Russians make their way through the various CHL leagues, and training camp for the Canadian Juniors begins around December 1. Cuts are usually made just before Christmas.

Hope they can get it done and people can use those tickets they have already purchased for the games in Red Deer and Edmonton. It would be great to see 2020 go out on a high note.

It's Terry Jones, so take a few grains of salt with this update.

Been looking forward to this tournament since it was announced.

Don't drop the ball on this one, Mr Nicholson.

Looks like the IIHF will hold the 2020-21 WJC tournament in Edmonton, but every other IIHF tournament is cancelled.

https://www.tsn.ca/iihf-announces-tournament-cancellations-w jc-still-a-go-1.1525587

"With the exception of the 2021 World Junior Championship, all lower division tournaments in the men’s U20 category will be cancelled, as well as the 2021 U18 Women’s World Championship and all other tournaments in the women’s U18 category.

The IIHF cited "major concerns" over the ability of the event hosts to operate a tournament in a safe environment and without incurring potentially serious financial risks should the tournament be cancelled or a participant fall ill."

Go Canada!!!! rock rock rock

It'll be interesting to see how they're picking this team...are any junior teams playing this fall in North America? Big advantage to the Europeans!

I believe the Quebec League is starting soon, and the WHL and OHL are aiming to start December 1.

Home ice advantage for Canada. Hope it will be enough.

As a ticket holder I got an email saying my tickets are good for next year's tournament, or I have a two week window to request a refund. Here's the exact text:

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced today all games for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship will be played in Edmonton this coming December and January without fans in attendance. However, there is great news for all our ticket holders, as the IIHF also announced the World Junior Championship will return to Edmonton and Red Deer in just one year (December 2021 / January 2022) and your ticket package will remain valid for this sold out event!

We are very excited to host this tournament in back-to-back years and can’t wait for next December when you are in the arena with us.

At this time, there is nothing you need to do to guarantee your same seats for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. Your ticket package and seat location will be automatically transferred within your account at no additional cost.

If you are unable to attend the 2022 World Juniors, we are providing you a two-week window to opt out of the event and receive a full refund. Should you choose this option, your seats will then be made available to the over 100,000 fans who remain on the waiting list.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

That just reeks. What they meant to say is, “We need your money and if you want a refund we will begrudgingly give it you, but this tournament costs us a lot of money and we won’t be able to fill the venue”.

Take your money and run. Sounds like a nightmare. If there are fans in attendance it will be 1/4 capacity. Half the fun is the buzz of the crowd for those games. That and the 50/50.

We live in the time of online 50/50 contests. So scratch that off as a reason. I can't ask for a refund until the 25th, but am leaning that way.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Reminder to anyone else requesting a refund for WJC tickets the deadline is Thursday. Doesn't look like the OEG is going to be sending a reminder email.

Worth noting, Red Deer isn't exactly doing much to stop the spread there. It's not the best place to do the late night Subway run. There's no mask mandate, and when I've been down there, I've been surprised at how rare it is to see anyone wearing a mask or trying to do anything differently.

Doesn't surprise me. It has been a while since I have been in Red Deer but it was the most redneck city I had seen. Was there with a black buddy of mine for a stag a few years back. We have been on dozens of road trips or vacations and have never experienced so much racist BS.
I am sure the numbers of covid deniers there is much higher there than many other centers. Not that all rednecks are covidiots but there is definitely a larger % in that group.

For sure.
Granted it was one weekend so perhaps we just got unlucky. In my, admittedly small, exposure it was WAY worse than Regina.
Dont get me wrong, Sask as a whole is pretty rednecky a lot of the time but for whatever reason my black friends dont have nearly the problems here than they have had in small Alberta cities and towns.

I think its a little premature to be blaming the entire population of Red Deer for a couple of Team Canada players that tested positive.
Might not have been even a player that brought it into the bubble, lots of staff associated with the team.

To clarify, my comment "doesnt surprise me" wasnt blaming Red Deer for the CDN players positive tests. It was to Adam's comment that it was rare to see someone wearing a mask and how that tends to overlap with a group of people I observe to be in high numbers in RD.

There are lots of good things about RD. I have had some good times there. The high level of white trash, racist pricks, isnt one of them.

People are coming in and out as players are brought in from various places. Plus they are teenagers. I have 2 highschools close to where I live and if what I see is any indication when it comes to teens following rules, I really have my doubts these guys are being as careful and cautious as they should be.

But it could be all Red Deer's fault as well. After all, apparently the entire population is nothing more than a bunch of red neck, white trash, racists.

Although you do have to admit - Red Deer CAN be a little more redneck-ish than most places. Not to say everyone there is a redneck, but still...

No denying that. I live here so it can be pretty red neck at times. Lots of farmers and small town people use it and ultimately live here. But in saying that, get out of the Edmonton and Calgary areas and I doubt it's a lot different than Red Deer. But painting the whole City as nothing more than white trash, racists is a bit much in my opinion.

Yeah - you never want to paint with too broad a brush. There's definitely some things I really like about Red Deer and I know a lot of great people from there - including my wife (who isn't a redneck).

I'd be willing to guess if she was called a red neck, white trash, racist just because she was from Red Deer, she probably wouldn't be too thrilled.

She does roll her eyes about Red Deer news sometimes though and wishes her hometown wasn't so redneck!

Most of the people are are good people but there are definitely some who can be a bit out there, I won't lie. I think most of them cheer for the Flames. icon_lol

Kidding!

Although you dont reply to me specifically I can only assume it is my post that struck a nerve.

Sorry, it seems my comments came across with too wide and broad sweeping of a generalization.
I did clarify that it was a small sample size;

For sure.
Granted it was one weekend so perhaps we just got unlucky. In my, admittedly small, exposure it was WAY worse than Regina.

There are lots of good things about RD. I have had some good times there. The high level of white trash, racist pricks, isnt one of them.

Didnt intend to imply Red Deer is 100% racist, white trash, rednecks just that in my last trip, short 3 days there, we came across a lot more BS than other cities.

I in now way directed it at you specifically. We have disagree on most things hockey but I dont recall any time you came across in any way that what indicate you fit the referenced stereotype.

Sincere apologies for offending.

Can’t remember if i said it on here but I thought it was unlikely they’d get through the whole tournament without any cases. Way too many variables now, unlike in August.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Waste of development time for Holloway. Boooo!

Two Covid positives in camp.. how can that happen in a lock down, and testing every few days?
Some one did a runner for a late night Subway!

Going to be interesting how this shakes down..

Holloway in the best place he could be right now..

Worth noting, Red Deer isn't exactly doing much to stop the spread there. It's not the best place to do the late night Subway run. There's no mask mandate, and when I've been down there, I've been surprised at how rare it is to see anyone wearing a mask or trying to do anything differently.

Red Deer city council just voted in favor of having mandatory masking last night. Takes effect Nov 30. They have had masks on buses for maybe 6 weeks. Other than that, their hasn't been much. People in the last 6 weeks have started to wear masks just on there own more frequently but sadly there are A LOT of people exactly like Crusader.

So wait, cases in Red Deer spiked like they did in Edmonton despite Edmonton having a mask mandate? Well, that means masks work.

We haven't had a mask mandate. Literally just got voted in last night. So MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2020. The only place where they required masks was if you rode transit buses. That's it. So I don't get the point of your comment.

I literally said that exact thing, I guess you missed that.

Nope I caught it.

We should probably keep the covid grousing to the covid grousing thread. Back to hockey. Do we think they'll cancel the tournament because of this breach? They should probably cancel the tournament just to be safe.

This is fine.
