This should be an interesting season for the Condors. They have started the pre-season with an 8-3 win over the Stockton Heat (Calgary's AHL farm team). Meaningless? Perhaps. However, I think Jay Woodcroft and his coaching staff will have a slightly different focus this season in that besides using their resources to build a contending and unified team in Bakersfield, they will need to have replacement players ready to fill possible roles in the NHL,as well as put the finishing polish on players like Bouchard and Jones. Anyways, here is the game log for the pre-season game. (2 shorthanded goals by Maksimov, fights galore).

Yamamoto still looking good. Clipping along at a GPG. Could be a fun year year for Bakersfield.

Clearly it's time to bring the Yams back up to the big leagues ;)

Our top 6 problems are cured. Tippet realized we only need 5 guys. The 6th just bounces up, down and out of the lineup.

So minor league.

The Oilers should be having $75 lobster paired with a mid range bottle of chardonnay (or Riesling if you're a barbarian).

This is fine.

Only a fool puts an actual price on the menu for lobster. It's "market pricing" and then you rob people when you present the bill.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Bobby Nick's obviously needs to bring his talents to Bakersfield.

Haven't checked on Bouchard in a while. Saw he went end to end for a goal last game:

https://twitter.com/Condors/status/1217282073112657920?s=20

He's #2 in points by a rookie D (guy ahead is 24 years old). 1st in rookie D goal scoring (7 goals, league leaders have 8). #8 in the league in shots by a D. Nice to see. No rookie really close to him for shot generation.

Button remains unimpressed though I'm sure.

Bouchard broke 103 mph at the all-star skills comp. Only guy over 100, except the guy that won, Right winger Martin Frk with 109.2 which blows away the AHL and NHL records.

The all-star comp just happens to be in the city for Frk's team...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Didn’t Al Iafrate hit 110 mph at an NHL All-Star game a long time ago?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_All-Star_Skills_Competitio n

According to this, Iafrate's best was 105.2. Chara has the NHL record at 108.8. At least until Frk gets to the NHL all-star game and it's held in LA.

Why is Frk in the AHL anyways? He has 3 goals in 4 NHL games this year. McLellan hates him for some reason? Found out his parents are Russian even though he's from the Czech Republic?

This is encouraging.

https://theahl.com/skinner-ahl-player-of-the-week
"Skinner stopped 106 of the 112 shots he faced over four starts during the week (3-1-0, 1.50, .946) for the Condors."

His stats for the season are pretty unimpressive, but if he is trending upward that's a good thing. I hope he is getting good advice from the coaches. The Oilers have a pretty bleak record of developing goalies, only to have them find success in other organizations (Brossoit, Dubnyk, for example. It would be refreshing to have a goalie the Oilers drafted and developed turn into a capable NHL'er rather than have to depend on older, over - the - hill, veteran 'keepers. I haven't seen much evidence that Dustin Schwartz is all that great at developing young goalies, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that he can prove me wrong with Skinner (and Shane Starrett if and when he gets healthy).

From Elliotte Friedman.

"30. This depends on what happens with the border, but there is talk that Canadian-based NHL teams with U.S.-based AHL affiliates are considering moving them north of the 49th for the 2020–21 season. That’s Calgary/Stockton; Edmonton/Bakersfield; and Vancouver/Utica. It makes sense, because a quarantine period would mean you can’t call up players. Not sure if those teams would be based out of the NHL buildings or centralized, but it is something these three organizations must prepare for."

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/31-thoughts-inside-toug h-tense-early-days-nhl-free-agency/

Such great support from Bakersfield fans and the business community down there over the past few years. Hope the Condors don't have to stay away from there for very long.

Scott Howson has announced the AHL season has a "structural framework" begin February 5, 2021.

https://theahl.com/framework-approved-for-feb-5-start-to-sea son

Have to think that once a player is assigned to Bakersfield, he's there for the duration, unless vaccinations will be given to hockey players (given the Covid situation in California, hardly likely).
