As reported on the CBC website....

"The Anaheim Ducks have bought out the contract of former NHL MVP Corey Perry after 14 seasons with the franchise."

https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/ducks-corey-perry-buyou t-1.5181659

One year, 2-3M? Thoughts? He could bring some solid leadership into the dressing room, play 80% of the games (if his knees hold out), is definitely into the last years of his career...but looking at the risk/reward, is it worth anything to our team?

I don't see too much tangible good (goals, +/-, improved pp or pk) or bad (assists, TOI from youth, can be a bit dirty) from bringing him aboard. Perhaps he could be/is motivated by want for a decent payday, going out on his own terms, and a chance to play with more skill than he has seen in any individual (McD) since the Olympics.
I dont know...I might take a low cost flyer on him. Maybe not, I see reasons for both decisions.

5 Cups and counting.

Only if he’s dirt cheap - think bury-able in the minors cheap. There’s a lot of risk given his health the last two years and the Oilers don’t have room to make a lot of risky gambles.

He's done. I co-worker of mine ran into a year ago and he told him he was trying to one more year. I don't see him signing anywhere. He's going to count his money on the beach.

Well, someone is going to pay him 2 or 2.5 mil on possibly a 2 year deal, maybe he's under 2 million to a cap-tight team that's close to a title. If he can still earn what makes him a 1%'er, go for it. An NHL career is fleeting.

My understanding is it's all about the bonus structure. If that's the case, league minimum and some decent bonus opportunities should be available if he's on a team with McDavid and LD.

He's not 35 until next May. Can't do significant bonus structure until it's an over 35 contract.

They were saying this morning that because he was out for over 100 days last year that he would be eligible for a bonus type contract.

Interesting to read. Oh well, he's not signing with the Oilers if he's looking to win a cup. I'm sure some team will throw money at him. Remember that deal Vincent Lecavlier got after he was bought out? It was some stupid amount for 5 years, which he never did play. He ended getting traded after agreeing to retire after the season was over.

$4.5MM for five years from Philly. I think they split the cap hit with the Kings when they traded him because he wasn't 35 when he signed either so they were still stuck with the cap hit when he quit with two years left on the deal...

He's still getting $1.76 Million a year from the Lightning and will be for the next 8 seasons...

Random question: does anyone know if the buyout amount counts towards the players share of Hockey Related Revenue (HRR)?

Oilers Goal Differential

18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games

3rd line and pp time. Agitation a big part of his game. Depends on salary but I’d like him here personally.

They have a lot of third line wingers (Gagner, Kassian, most of the rumoured UFAs). Just wondering when we might see a real Top-6 winger with the organization again.

Watch him sign here and have a season like Kassian did a couple years back with half a dozen goals called back. Suddenly as soon as he's an Oiler, I'm sure the refs won't care at all what they have to tell Corey.

Good thing we bought out Sekera so we can burn more money chasing after a broke-down has-been "star".

I’d rather have a cheap short term deal for Corey Perry rather than putting Russell and Currie or some guy for Bakersfield in a position he couldn’t handle.

He’s healthy right now and has something to prove, need that right shot RW and experience for a year or 2 as a stop gap. I’m 100% down for Corey Perry if he’d come to Edmonton for cheap.
