Remember when he was listed as one of the reasons Oilers fans should be excited about the future?

I have no issue with the team re-upping him, as long as they don't also sign a bunch of other AHL plugs this summer and clog back up the minor league system with career farm team guys in their mid-20s.

This seems fine, as long as it's not at the expense of Ty Rattie who should take precedent over Russell.

Why is this in the minors board? Bobby Nicks identified Patrick Russell as a cornerstone piece for the future of the Oilers.

"The Edmonton Oilers are not where they should be right now and that is unacceptable. We need to get better immediately. That starts today"
-Kevin Lowe, April 2013

"Next year (15/16) I would forecast as another developmental year"
- #2, April 2015

AHL signing. His biggest problem is his wheels are not NHL level, speed and quickness are everything, and he isn't that young, what you see is likely what you get.

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks, K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner, Petrovic = Nathan Legare
