Great game boys. Real sense of urgency in the last ten minutes.

Not sure what was going on in the first 50 though.

Can we start firing people yet? Or maybe more hiring of ex-Oilers.

First check to see if the Washington Generals management is available. We need people with a real hunger to win.

That game sucked.

Just imagine all that hockey knowledge and experience all gathered in 1 place. How can you not be successful with all that? Just like how you become super smart and can devise new theories no one thought of before the second you walk into a library.

I don’t understand how Getzlaf doesn’t get interference on 97 there basically leaving Draisatl on a rush by himself.

Then the punch in the face.

What is wrong with this league? What a friggin joke.

If you had to listen to the Ducks commentary team, you'd be screaming louder than that.. They were bemoaning how the Oilers were getting away with everything!!

We were never out of the game, but we were never in it. Could of, should of tied it straight after our second, but that's the story of this season isn't it.

So I guess this is the point I start learning about this year’s draft class? Beuh....i really hoped after last year that would be done for at least a few years. So disheartening.

Or perhaps our perennially astute scouting staff should start learning about it too? Perhaps a couple breakfasts together at Denny’s?

Could this finally be the year the blind squirrel stumbles on a nut beyond the 1st round?

They have not been overly egregious outside the 1st round (not amazing, but not abysmal).

2008:
Hartikainen (52-6-7-13) went 163rd

2009:
Lander (215-10-25-35) went 40th

2010:
Pitlick (112-21-11-32) went 31st
Marincin (177-3-22-25) went 46th
Davison (130-7-12-19) went 162nd

2011:
Rieder (287-49-57-106) went 114th

2012:
Khaira (65-9-9-18) went 63rd
Gustafsson (50-1-15-16) went 93rd

2013:
Slepyshev (75-6-10-16) went 88th

2010 was a solid year, but every year since the Eberle draft the team has managed to find a pick outside the 1st round that plays over 50 games. That's pretty respectable and consistent.

I would suggest that "late round success" means finding a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man in later rounds.

Or finding enough NHL calibre players that there is a real battle between the minor leaguers to make the pro club.

IMO most teams can find bottom of the line up players.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Finding a top-6 FW or top-4 D outside the first round is striking gold.

And we have consistently drafted enough quality players (and made college signings) to make it competitive, as you suggested, but we have historically moved the players for scraps, or rushed them into the NHL because we suck at NHL procurement, which is a whole other conversation.

It’s getting so hard to listen to Ched post-game. The level of intelligence of some callers. Last night one guy said Lucic is actually a great passer. I wish they would go to callers much later. Go to news, traffic and weather a couple more times for all I care. If I were the host I would hang up on any caller that didn’t get to the point in 3 seconds. Also, at the beginning of any rambling about anything remotely related to the glory days....CLICK!

Also, I wish I had a looney for every time I heard McLellan say the phrase, “back of the net” in his post-game. Seems to be his “go to” phrase. Kinda like MacT with his “indicative” and “manifests itself” buzz words. These are the things I’m starting to pay attention to again. Shoot me please..

Am becoming more a Conner McDavid fan and giving up on being an Edmonton Oiler fan. Poor guy has no support from team or refs and is by far the best player on the ice.( Would like to see Getslaf felled by ball of his own bs.) The management including coaching staff in this organization continues to be very faulty and will have to be overhauled if things are ever going to get better for us fans. Sad season.

To some extent me as well. I watched bits and pieces of this game, and then the last 10-15 minutes of the third. The guy is in a league of his own. Imagine if he was playing somewhere along the eastern seaboard or in another major or original 6 market... he could propel the league to greater heights, he’s must watch TV in an otherwise boring and horribly officiated league... with the way the Oilers franchise is run you can’t help but think the team doesn’t deserve a player of his ilk in some way and that he deserves to be elsewhere...
