Did anyone else think for a second that Sek was actually going to step on the ice as a skater when the announcer said his name?

I was talking about the opening night introduction of the team.

It is really hard to get what one is saying when one phrases it in the form of a 1-word question. Who is Randorf?

Ahh, pardon my ignorance then. Hopefully, he will be a better commentator than guys like Garrett or Hughson. Surely he couldn't be any worse than those clowns.

I suppose the thing about Drai and McDavid being on a line is... that line is pretty good.

Honestly, it can't be that hard to get something out of the guys he has for the middle 6. If those 2 lines continue to be useless, I'm looking at McLellan, not the players.

Can't do this "no on can do crap unless they play with McDavid or Drai" thing forever. But it was similar in SJ when you didn't get to play with one of their all-stars.

TMac hasn't been afraid to shuffle players from line to line. I don't think Drai and Connor will be kept together throughout the entire season. It would help if Drai can improve his puck distribution ability further....

Not sure if there is a better trio down low. Maroon looks like a rec player handling the puck, but how do you stop them?

I like the idea of overloading a line when you come up a team with 3 good D pairings. Draisaitl can centre his own line quite a bit, but a super line against Calgary or Nashville? Yes please.

They need to get more bodies in front of Smith on the rest of their shots and get those dirty goals....

Maybe, but it'd be easier to tell if the Oil could just get more shots on net. icon_neutral

One stat I'm liking so far from this game:

Edm FO% = 51.2%

It will make a big difference if they can consistently out-draw their opponents this season and in the playoffs....

I don't get why D getting points seems to automatically mean you're good at defending. The flames are terrible at defending. Their D are just good at gambling and jumping up in the play. Really though, you can just argue they are shifting point production from forwards to the D in a zero sum game. Get them in their own end and they break down all the time.

It was a good start to the game. Sure they didn't score many goals, but that is more a credit to Smith for bringing his A-game tonight, at least so far.

What's up with Hamonic? Took a huge step back last year for sure, everyone thought he would rebound. Looks like a Gryba out there. Garth Snow is owning the league.

To be fair, that's a tough first assignment for Hamonic. Not sure he would have played McDavid very often in his career before last night. I imagine he had nightmares about 97 following that game.

To be fair, that's a tough first assignment for Hamonic. Not sure he would have played McDavid very often in his career before last night. I imagine he had nightmares about 97 following that game.

Yeah, I'm just having fun with Hamonic :) Loved his slide at the end on the EN goal.

He was better than his top 5 Canadian D (according to Hrudey) partner Brodie for sure, but still very flames like :)

Gotta give credit to the defensive game so far. It has been on point. No one is letting flames players get away from them. We're on top of them in a hurry. Some mistakes for sure, but guys are covering well.

Totally agree with this- watching them, you can see how they avoid chasing the puck and instead watch for a potential pass target. This is the polar opposite of Eakins' vaunted swarm D.

Monahan with his stick all over Draisatl. In the preseason that would have been at least 2-3 penalties.

So much for that standard.
