There! No need for worrying about Sekera anymore!

Actually, I've never heard of him so its probably a depth/farm signing.

I'm sorry who now?

Sounds like a guy who was still acclimating to the north american game and the Devils cut ties. Oilers make this move with literally zero risk. Fans loved him, management did not.

Sounds.. oddly... fa..mil..iar..

This is a decent signing. Stop-gap player who played very well in a small sample size on a bad team in New Jersey last year. Worst case, he provides depth and offence in the AHL. Best case, he makes Gryba expendable by the time Sekera returns from injury.

Nothing too special about his NHL stats line last year - 2-2-4 in 25 games - but one thing jumps out at me. 54 shots on goal in that time. That's a pretty good pace for generating shots on goal. Fairly low shooting percentage, but getting the puck on net is helpful, and on a better team that's more likely to translate to more offence.

In case you're wondering, only Klefbom generated shots at a better rate among Oilers defenders last year (~2.5/game). Nurse was a little shy of 2 per game. Sekera was about 1.5 shots per game. Benning, Russell, Gryba and Davidson were all about 1 per game.

Auvitu was producing that while averaging only 15:36 of ice time. It's a positive sign.

All around, good bet by the Oilers.

....sounds like he is inconsistent at both the AHL and NHL level...wasn't qualified by NJ, and had been a healthy scratch in the AHL on occasion...

...must have a pretty good head on his shoulders....has almost completed an MBA thesis....

His last name sounds like a brand of yogurt.

That's my advanced stats comment of the day.

Seems like an Osterle type guy. Someone who in short stretches can probably be OK for you. Too bad he wasn't right handed.

Knew nothing at all about him before this morning. Reading about him, I think he might have a shot at sticking this fall, at least until Sekera is back. Hard to hate much about this.
