Oilers qualify:
- Jesse Puljujarvi
- Kailer Yamamoto
- Ryan McLeod
- Tyler Benson
They chose not to qualify:
- Brendan Perlini
- Ostap Safin
- Filip Berglund
The latter two never really found their groove with the AHL team, with Safin playing a bunch of the season in the ECHL. Perlini isn't a surprise, although I didn't mind him as a 12th/13th forward. Probably the biggest surprise for me is Tyler Benson, who looked out of the team's plans.

Maybe just protecting the asset in the hopes of using him as a sweetener in a deal? He wouldn't be a terrible asset for a rebuilding team.

Yamo, JP and McLeod were no brainers to me. The only player that remotely surprised me was Benson. If his coach Woody can't find a full time spot for him on the team, I don't see how he fits. If he accepts a 2 way, I'd be fine with that but I wouldn't hand out a 1 way.

I'm happy Benson got a QO. I don't know if I'm hoping for more of potential I see in him or what, but I like him. Always did and he showed flashed of what he can do on this team last season.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

I prefer to keep players if they have any value - whether they're happy about it or not. Better to have someone you can deal, even for a 7th round pick, than to just let them go for nothing (although Benson will need to go through waivers to get assigned, so could sign him and lose him for nothing anyhow).
